Or, Now with Special Guest Star

    >Previous Threads:

    PREVIOUSLY, ON METAHUMAN RENAISSANCE:
Daniel and Ashwood (Who's first name is alexander, in case you forgot) engaged in a biplane chase/duel with the Red Star-possessed dragon, which ended when the Navy shot down the dragon with a railgun. Dan followed the chase to the ground, and fought again with Anna, this time triumphing by not being a wuss, and just breaking one of her arms a little. He then freed Roxane, but was caught in Anna's devious trap which triggered the Black Rock Box so that the bridging of time and space would go through Dan. Not wanting to go quietly into that good night, Dan protested with a new power, but was ultimately saved by the intervention of Dr. M. Dan then decided to take a nap.

Doctor Moreau watches the slowing coagulating ball of crimson energy in the sky, as it shapes itself into an Avatar of the Red Star. Fortunately, Dr. M's psychic barrier over Daniel has disrupted the flow of energy, scattering it around some, which has cause the avatar to be much less cohesive and powerful than it would have been had the ritual gone off unimpeded. But even now, the Red Star's new form descends from the heavens, to alight on this earth. Dr. M does not alight, but rather hovers very slightly off the ground, because she can. It appears as a ten-foot tall, cloaked figure. A vaguely draconic mask hides its face, crimson light pouring out the mouth and eye slits. Its too-long arms end in blades claws, as to its feet, all encased in glittering scaled armor. Or skin.

    >Suggestions?

(Note: So, Dr. M has a few super powers. She has 10d in Telekinesis (Attacks, Defends, Useful), has the ability to fly with 3hd, can "zero shift" distances at 2hd, and can produce a psionic spear to stab things with.

Also, she has no fourth wall, so anything you say in a post in reply to one of my updates, she will see and respond to, unless you put it in parentheses. Also, she might not do exactly as you say, but will do her best to follow advice, unless you tell her to do something retarded.

Dr. M would say something snarky about nobody offering any actions, but she's busy trying to calculate the next 50 digits of pi, or something.

So we'll just assume it was made, and move on with the saying what to do about the potential doom of all humanity hanging out in the ruins of a storage building.

Is stalling a viable tactic? One edge that we have is that we have many, many potential allies who can converge to assist.

Also, after this is over, Dr. M needs to give Roxane an autograph.

    >"C'est Magnifique. Couldn't have planned it better myself. Well, I could, but I have no idea where I'd get all the toads."

"COWER, MORTAL!" The Red Star announces, striking a pose of dominence, hands arms spread out to the heavens. "I HAVE COME. SOON, I THE LORD OF BLOOD, SHALL-" Eve interrupts him. "How dull." She sweeps her hand in a telekinetic motion, and the avatar is swept sideways, and crashes through one of the remaining walls and out onto the grounds. Dr. M closes the distance in a single second, and hovers in the open hole, and extends a hand to the sky in a clasping motion. "WHO DARES!?" Queries the Red Star, rising to its feet. Its glowing eye-slits focus on Dr. M, and it extends a hand at her. Tendrils of red energy shoot from inside its sleeve, but are deflected by a hexagonal plane of force which appears in front of her. It snarls in rage, and retracts its hand, drawing in power.

Anyway, pin his arms to his side so he can't do the energy thing again. Pin his chin to his chest in case of eye-beams or whatever and so he can't see exactly where you are or do any more of that annoying prattle. General telekinetic full-body bind.

    >"Did I say toads? I mean poison dart frogs."

    (2x6 and 3x10 on Ranged Pin/Telegrapple)

"FOOLISH WOMAN. YOUR SHIELD WONT PROTECT YOU FOREVER." The Red Star announces, loudly. Eve ignores him, and just sticks out both her hands in a gripping motion. The avatar goes rigid, arms pinned to its side, and head aimed down at the ground. Dr. M smirks a little, as the godlike entity twitches as it tries to struggle against the immense pressing force. It struggles, and actually cracks one of the layers of psychic pressure, but is unable to break free at the moment.

Before she can move to do any thing more interesting, it breathes deep, which is unusual because it shouldn't be able to expand its chest cavity that far. It breathes/spits a cloud of rust-colored, blood like mist. Where it touches the grass, it dies. Or rather, the substance drains the life and color where it touches. Some of it splashes on Dr. M's arm. It instantly begins chewing away at the smartskin, but the instant it comes into direct contact with her skin, there is a small flash of light, and blue-white flames burn the substance off of her. She brushes it away with a hand, black powdery ash coming off. The smartskin heals itself, and Dr. M glares at the avatar, and cracks her knuckles.

"Your breath smells terrible." Says doctor M, then sticks out a hand at about head level.

    (2x10 on Tele-gag)

The avatar tumbles end over end and ends up pressed against the ground, psychic force pressing on its mouth area. Red energy leaks from under the mask, which cracks slightly. It struggles in vain against the effort, clearly not used to its smaller shape, and thus being able to be grappled, mentally or no. Tendrils shoot out in a random direction as Moreau increases the pressure, causing a hexagonal space containing the avatar to suddenly be about three inches lower than it was a second ago. Out of the corner of her eye, Dr. M can see a faint streak in the sky, like a shooting star. A faint whistle reaches her ears.

Then she hears a shout behind her. "Damn you!" She half turns to find Anna moving swiftly to close the distance, extradimensional radiation clutched in her hand. She gets maybe 5 yards away before Dr. M replies, "Petulant child!" With her hands occupied, she instead focuses her power into a baleful gaze, striking all in her sight with psychic force. The top layer of concrete peels away into vapor. An errant steel beam lying in her line of sight is sheared off in a shower of sparks, the end glowing hotly. A shelf full of glass containers and chemistry equipment explodes into a cloud of dust. The wall behind Anna is simply deleted in a binocular-like pattern. The force shears away clothing. Then skin. It strips Anna's body from neck to the tops of her feet down to the muscle, and her charge stops short as crumples to the floor in shock. Moreau finishes the gesture with a slashing motion, slashing Anna across one cheek to the next, drawing a deep cut through the tattoos on each cheek. "Consider the experiment failed." She turns back to the captive avatar, who appears to be drawing in power, as the grass around it dies.

    >"Oh, right. Debris. Lots of that lying around."

Dr. M shifts over to hover above the Red Star, and summons a red-white spear of energy and drives it downwards into the center of the avatar's mass. It penetrates clean through, and crimson mist bleeds out, like some kind of strange video game effect. Strangely, as she drives the spear in, she feels almost zero resistance past punching through the outside robe and through its very back. Like the inside is hollow, or something. It twitches with the impact, and she shifts back, hovering just inside the "wall" of the building.

Then the goddamn avatar stands up, grabs the spear, and rips it out of itself, and snaps it in two with its hand. "YOUR WEAPONS MEAN NOTHING TO ME!" It declares. "We'll see." She says, then grabs two psychic handfuls of debris from the building, and smashes them together on top of the being, crushing it into a mound of junk. The whistling sound has grown to a faintly metallic roar as a fireball is rapidly descending on Liberty City. There is a flash of red light, and the debris disintegrates around the Avatar. "WHAT NEXT, LITTLE GIRL?" It demands. Eve just smirks and points without looking over in the direction of the falling star. The avatar turns its head to look, and is hit by the equivalent of a semi truck. Dropped from space.

There is the loudest goddamn noise anyone ever did hear, shattering half the windows on campus, and a burst of heat and light as a huge gouge is carved out of the grounds of the university, shrouding the entire area in a cloud of debris.

    >"No es bueno. Shame on you. I should at least admire my handy work, no?"

The doctor floats up to a nice apex in the debris cloud, and makes a sweeping gesture. The cloud spirals outward and away, exposing the clear night sky again. She then drifts down to alight on the scarred earth, and observe the crater of what's left of the Avatar, which shambles to its feet. As it does, it's mask drops from its hooded face. It looks up at her and snarls "YOU...!", revealing what is inside its tattered robes. A miniature constellation of crimson stars and stardust, swirling around in an infinite void of a hood, a single red eye peering out of the abyss.

Dr. M stares into the Abyss. The Abyss stares back. She considers the Abyss for a moment, before deciding the Abyss would look nice in a painting over her mantle, and resolves to get that started at her earliest possible convenience. The Red Star picks its mask back up and places it back on its... "face". The mask is heavily damaged, and large amounts of the Abyss show through the cracks. It points a finger at her, but she zero shifts around behind it, and its bolt of lightning misses completely. "Looks like I don't need my shield after all." She says. It wheels around to face her, but she simply summons another hexagonal plane of force, and pushes it forward, smacking into it like a freight train, and throwing it into the building, knocking down the half of it that had a roof. The other half that didn't have a roof manages to not collapse, however.

While smashing things into the Avatar's face does a good job of keeping it occupied and causing basic damage, what about the other plans the not-so-good-Dr. has made for tonight? Possible ways to damage the Box, possible ways to disrupt the Avatar itself (including infecting it with something that will diminish it's power long after it's been kicked to the curb from this reality). Do we have anything to counter it's thirst for Life?

Also, what are the estimates on the amount of damage the Naval Railgun the Dr. hacked can do? Are then enough, or do we need to thing more abstractly.

We need to find it's weakpoint, then figure out this entity, making sure to understand it's weaknesses for the future.

Well, theres probably still some Satellite debris scattered about, They make those things pretty sturdy. I say grab the largest Edged bit of material you can find, and get to work on decapitating this guy. not that I believe it needs a head, but seeing as the eye, which seems to be it's well Avatar for lack of a better term, that seem like the spot to focus on.
OR, get the mask out of the way, And start throwing stuff into that hole where its face should be.

I dont suppose the fair doctor could use her Telekinesis and MSRMD together to try to angle a rail gun shot so that we could hit both Red Star AND the box, could we? It might help if we get him in the same general location first.

Dr. M, you mean you haven't been considering the WONDEROUS ways you can both test things for science WHILE destroying them (the box and the red star)? I am disappoint. The only reason why no-one has succeeded yet is because they were weak, unintelligent, and lacking the will to truly do so (or possibly two out of three).

Considering the need for life, would it be possible to use a railgun pulse to start up a static charge similar to Tesla's idea on power transmission (You send lightning shooting around the upper atmosphere collecting energy, pushing it again and again, then you can direct it anywhere), but instead using the power generated to create a void effect? The lack of energy might cancel the Avatar out. Plus, it's SCIENCE!!!!!

Dr. M zero shifts over to the pile of debris, and finds the Avatar staggering to its feet again, just past the pile of stuff. She puts a spear in its face. This seems to confuse it, and while it struggles to pull the spear out, she hops down to the floor level, and grabs the end of a steel roof beam.

The skintight translucent nanotech smart-skin suddenly warps to show a figure of high muscle definition, and just as the Red Star gets the spear out of its face, revealing it now has no upper half of a mask, she clubs it over the head with the beam. "In the words of this generation..." Then she does it again. "Welcome to Earth." But when she comes around for the third pass, it holds up a single finger and stops the blow, the sound of its finger on the metal reminiscent of a record-scratch. The beam instantly starts melting away, like rust and erosion in fast motion. Dr. M discards the beam, and decides for a more comprehensive assault. She grabs every piece of rebar she can find, and raises them up in a dome of pointy steel around the Avatar, well out of reach.

"O' ANGEL OF THIS WORLD, DO YOU HAVE ENOUGH SPEARS?" The Red Star asks. "Let's find out." Eve smirks and replies. She then pelts him with them as as high a speed as she can muster, turning him into a veritable pin cushion. After a few seconds, she's out of ammunition, and the avatar stands there. Then it inhales deep, and the rebar sections embedded in its body all fall out, eaten away completely. Holes in the robes seal up right after, and all in all, it seems much less ragged. It's like it eats iron. Wait. That train of though is interrupted as it cackles madly.

    >"Irony. Perfect."

Dr. M smiles to herself, and silently thanks the voices in her head. She grins up at the Avatar, and quietly sticks out a fist to lift up something behind it. The Red Star remains oblivious. "SUCH A GOOD STRUGGLE. I ONLY HOPE THE REST OF THIS PATHETIC WORLD PUTS UP HALF THE FIGHT YOU DO..." Random blood-colored tendrils snake out of its sleeves and start randomly squirming and sliding over the floor, careful to not come to close to the Doctor. "I SHALL ENJOY DRINKING YOU ESSENCE." It says, abyssal eye affixed on the doctor.

"Good luck with that." She says, and breaks into a manic grin that has struck fear in the hearts of men since 1975. She's had a lot of practice with it. She sticks out her other hand, and scoops the avatar up off the ground. "WHAT!?" It says. Then she pulls her two hands together like a child crashing her toys together. The Red Star has barely enough time to shout "IMPOSSIBLE!" before it collides head on (because two object in motion hitting eachother is always better than a moving object hitting a standing one). There is a flash of crimson light, then a burst of what can only be described as anti-light, in a perfectly spherical reaction. It vanishes after only a split second, leaving a perfectly spherical ground zero in the floor, ten feet deep and five feet across.

For the second time today, someone is trying to wake you up from a dead black sleep. "..p! Wake up, Dan!" The somebody sounds female. And is shaking you. You slowly open your eyes to find yourself comfortably reclining against a tiny section of wall, in what used to be a building, but lacks sufficient walls and roofs to be called such any more. Roxane is kneeling down beside you, gently shaking your shoulders. "Did we win?" You mutter sleepily.

"Yes, as a matter of fact Daniel, I did." Says Dr. M, who appears with a sound that accompanies space time snapping back and forth like a rubber band. If you hadn't just woke up from a nap, you'd have jumped out of your skin. Roxane almost does, and sprawls backwards on her butt with a tiny yelp. Dr M produces a small folded piece of paper from the pocket of her labcoat, and stuffs into Roxy's. You take this opportunity to look behind her at the conspicuous lack of Red Star or Black Rock Box. And the perfectly round hole in the ground. And what looks like a meteorite crater on the grounds, Jesus Christ were you always this deep a sleeper?

You try not to focus on the very interesting contours the silvery catsuit she's wearing makes. "What you will do. Will you save someone who wouldn't do the same for you?" You scoop up the medication from your lap, and scramble toward Anna. Her breathing is extremely shallow, and you can tell through your extranormal senses, that her life is fading quickly. You roll her over onto her back, her blankly staring eyes not even noticing. You pop the surgical quality needle out of the injector, and slip it in, right into the heart, then press the handy big red button. The silvery liquid flows from the canister. Anna's eyes stop staring, she relaxed, and then closes them, like she too is taking a nap. You remove the needle, and notice a tiny sparkle at the injection sight, like the fluid when it caught the light. The twinkling silver patch expands, creating almost a shower of multicolored sparks as it flows over all the damaged parts of Anna's body. The tiny machines work to heal the damage, and then start regrowing her skin.

The twinkling glow envelops her almost head to toe in a few moments, and before your eyes, she is healed, with fresh, new skin, sans tattoos. She's also rather naked. You cough, and find something to look at hurriedly as Roxy drapes her lab coat over Anna, who has lapsed into a gentle sleep.

You turn around to face Dr. M, and say, slightly defiantly, "No choice at all." She smiles ambiguously.

Then a government issue SUV throttles through a remaining wall at an arc, intent on running over Dr. M. Moreau casually raises a back hand to it, and the SUV impacts with one of her hexagonal barriers, the front crumpling a good half a foot with the force, straight compacted. A figure in a standard issue government suit and black hat crashes through the reinforced windshield, apparently not wearing a seatbelt. It's Special Agent Johnson, wielding two Tommy guns, one in each arm. He presses their barrels right up to the barrier, and says, "When you meet him, tell J Edgar I said, hello." And holds down the triggers.

The thunderous hail of bullets does absolutely nothing to the resolute wall of Doctor Moreau's will. They bounce off and form a small pile of 100 .45 ACP rounds around the SUV. When the guns click empty, Dr. M simply rolls her eyes and pushes the back of her hand up some more. The SUV crumples back another couple of inches, and the barrels of the guns bend to point straight up, like something out of a cartoon. Then Dr. M sighs, turns on her heel, and drives her left fist forward in a telekinetically-assisted punch which passes through her own barrier, and up to the elbow in Special Agent Johnson's chest, which also comes out the other side. He seems remarkably blase about it, not even looking down or flinching as Dr. M twitches her arm, sending his body sprawling across the floor. Then she lets the SUV settle down on the ground, and shoots the Hammer a glare. The camera ball mounted to the top of the armor swivels to look somewhere else, and whistling emerges from the external speakers.

Moreau turns back to look at you. "You've made an interesting choice, Daniel. I will have to consider it." And Dr. M is gone in a flash. You lean down and scoop up Anna, making sure the labcoat keeps her covered. You look over at Roxy, and say "C'mon, let's get her to hospital. Or to Blackstone, I'm not sure which first."

"Not so fast!" A figure rushes out of the shadows. It's the Voice! It's body is scratched and scarred, but it still manages to rush at you, perfectly solid, war-scythe in hand, murder in its glowing red eyes.

It's movement is suddenly arrested as about a foot of black metal, no, the look is all wrong, must be stone, penetrates right through it's chest. The sheer blackness of it reminds you of the black rock box, but this is, like, infinitely blacker. It's like a sword blade made of literal nothing.

The Voice drops his scythe and looks at the sword sticking out of his chest. "W-what...!?" it stammers out. The blade twists in the wound, making the sound of warping steel in the body of the voice, then is slipped sideways, carving a chunk out of its body. It drops to its knees, and you see Regis standing behind it, in full three-piece suit, with top hat. In one hand he has a long cane of ebony, topped with a piece of ivory carved into the shape of a human skull. In the other hand he has a sword carved of black stone, shaped rather like the standard medieval cruciform sword. Regis grins at you, as the Voice turns its head back over its shoulder to look at him. "That... sword! It's... it's not... possible!" it croaks. Regis stops smiling, whips the sword up, and brings it down on the thing's head, and it crashes to the floor as a pile of red dust, which drifts away in a sudden breeze. The blade suddenly glows with a red aura. Lines of energy course down the blade from the edge, looking like something out of Tron.

The energy pools down into a spot on the hilt of the blade, which glows with crimson energy. Regis looks back up at you, and smiles, tucking the sword somewhere under his coat. "I told you, when you needed me, Regis would be there." He tips his hat to you. "I hope you will be able to repay my favor very soon." He says, and steps backwards into the shadows, and is gone.

    >Four hours later, at the Hospital

You sit opposite Anna's hospital room, in a chair. Blackstone is inside, currently, interviewing her. She woke up about an hour ago, and Captain Skinner, who is also here, slouching against the wall outside the door, sent Blackstone in to have a chat with her. Roxane is with you, though she's asleep now, her head resting lightly against your shoulder. You're wide awake, though. Not sure why, but you feel very invigorated after the Eclipse's events.

Blackstone exits quietly, and closes the door behind him. He plops into a chair next to you, and the Captain walks over. "Well?" she asks. Blackstone takes off his hat, and nods up at her. "It's like we thought. I questioned her thoroughly, and Anna can't really remember the past five days or so. It's all fuzzy. She can tell me about what happened, and what she did, but she doesn't remember the details, she doesn't describe them like someone remembering them." Skinner gives him a level look. "Sure she isn't lying?" "Pretty sure. Looked in her eyes the whole time. Would have known if she lied." Skinner nods slowly. "So, what exactly happened then, professor?" You ask.

"Friday morning, she contacted her patron the Red Star, for an additional edge of power to be better than you, after she found out Dr. M was planning on confronting you in the club that night. At that time, she gained her tattoos, and a deeper connection to the Red Star. Because of this connection, her thoughts and emotions were altered by the direct presence of the Voice, which was basically using her body as a signal repeater to examine our world. Now that the Red Star is severely damaged, and the Voice dead, the connection is broken, and Anna no longer exists in this altered state." Blackstone explains.

Captain Skinner asks the 5,000,000 dollar question. "Is she safe?"

"Oh she'll be fine, with the Red Star and the Voice out of the picture." Blackstone says, not looking at the policewoman. "You know what I meant." Iron slips into Skinner's voice. Blackstone looks up at her. "I'd say so..." He says after a second. "You're basing this on?" "I looked into her eyes the whole time, cap. Eyes are the window of the soul. People of a certain inclination and talent can see a little of what's inside that way. I put my own eyes up to her metaphorical window and looked in. She's of sound mind and body, now. She was eager for power before, but it sounds like she's learned her lesson." Skinner breaks the look.

"Well, it's not like I can persecute her easily, anyway." She says after a minute, quietly. "Come again?" You say. Skinner coughs, then says slowly. "She's got different fingerprints." "What?" Blackstone says, with real surprise. Skinner repeats herself. "We printed her real quick when they brought her into the hospital. Checked 'em against our records. They're similar, but the computers all say they're different, and they don't look quite the same too. Combine that with the face that our suspect is now sans the tattoos which were the defining characteristic witnesses remember. It's a very shaky case, and if you say she was kind of possessed, the DA probably isn't going to go for it. Her mother has already informed me she'll be spending some the considerable amount of money she has to hire the best lawyer she can find, and they'll tear such a shoddy case apart."

Not sure if I'm relieved or annoyed.

She was willing to sacrifice the world for her own power, but she also had more insecurities and mental issues than an asylum, along with the voice of a extradimensional being whispering in her ear the entire time, which makes it hard to lay the blame on her completely. Also if she's imprisoned she can't make amends and try to fix stuff.

Assuming she spends the rest of her life working for others and atoning for what she has done I've got no problems. Otherwise I'm annoyed at her.

Also, considering that, and the fact that she was pretty much surely being mentally pressured by the Red Star, I'd be fine if she just got some community service or something. They should make her rebuild the school or something.

"Well, maybe its for the best." You say, softly, "If she was really mentally affected by her contact with the Red Star." Skinner nods slowly. "Yeah, but the people are gonna want someone to hang for this, when they find out. And they will find out. Only reason they didn't is because it's 4 AM, and Miss Mystery was in town earlier fighting a living ball of light, and Alexander Ashwood had a biplane duel with a dragon. But they'll catch on soon enough. And when the reporters come knocking on my office door, what am I going to tell them?" She asks nobody in particular.

Somebody in particular answers. "You'll tell them what Uncle Sam tells you to tell them." Special Agent Johnson, apparently in a new suit, walks up, like he's perfectly fine, and sticks a cigarette in his mouth. He gets halfway to his lighter before he remembers he's in a hospital, and can't smoke. He resigns himself to just holding it in his mouth. Skinner looks him up and down, and shoots you a glance. You're too busy seeing revenants. "What do you mean, Johnson?" She asks. "It is the official policy of the US Government that what happened here tonight was a possession-related accident, when one Anna Ellsworth utilized unsafe research given to her by internationally wanted criminal Eve Moreau in an attempt to further her studies. The incident was stopped when Moreau intervened to reclaim her research, and Anna was captured by some helpful citizens." He shoots you a meaningful look.

Johnson produces a piece of paper from his jacket, and holds it up. "I have an official statement saying that Anna is 100% free of outside influence." He nods to Blackstone. "If you'll sign it professor, they'll be nothing stopping her from rejoining society." Skinner raises an eyebrow. "Not that I have anything against the kid, personally, but is it alright to let her get off scot-free?"

"She's not getting off scot-free." Says Johnson. "She'll probably spend a great deal of the rest of her life under the watchful eye of America's alphabet soup of Intelligence Agencies. My bosses, who are in a way your bosses, will be aiming to use her to help us get Moreau. Plus, the way Blackstone describes it, the kid knows what she's done, and she'll have to live with herself for it." Blackstone nods, and signs the paper, which Johnson takes back. "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go to the roof, and smoke about five of these. Goddamn I miss cocaine." He turns to leave.

    Blackstone stands up, puts his hat on, and grabs his staff. "Well, I think I'll be leaving, now that I've done my part. I'm going to have a nice long sleep." He looks at the Captain. "If you need me, don't call before noon." He turns to you, and hands you a small note, in a elegant, spidery hand. "Miss Mystery gives her regards." He tips his hat at you, and says "It's been a pleasure working with you, and I look forward to talking to you in the future." He walks off in a very wizardly way, and gets in another elevator. You read the note. It says;

    "Dear Mr. Fortesque,

Sorry I couldn't talk to you in person. Mr. Blackstone spoke briefly of you while we worked together in the Museum, and it's always nice to hear about other young people doing what they can to help, especially when they don't have too. If you're ever in Cali, send me a message at this address, and maybe we can meet properly, and talk some shop. Out of costume, of course.

    Cheers,
    Miss Mystery (II)"

Also enclosed is a fairly nondescript E-mail address. You pocket the note, and look up at the captain, who has her eye closed and is leaning against the wall again. "Aren't you going?" You ask. "Police protection." She says, simply. "I'll be relieved in another couple of hours." You nod. You decide to get up, and get some coffee, or something, offering to bring the Captain back some. She doesn't say yes, but the look of her single cybernetic eye suggests yes. While getting some hospital coffee, you find yourself confronted by Regis. He's dressed as he was, but instead of a sword, he has a long cardboard box, like a flower box.

He holds out the box. You take it, and find it very heavy for flowers. "Sorry to cash it in so soon, but I really need this to get to the person who needs it." You look down at the little card thing, and open it up, to find the name "TO: MISS ANNA ELLSWORTH" printed in a block handwriting. You look up again, but find Regis gone.

You head back to the room with the coffee. You hand the Captain one, then go to open the room door. The Captain eyes you. "What are you doing?" She asks. "Flower delivery." You say, with a big goofy grin, and rattle the box some. It sounds like its filled with golf-clubs, or aluminum baseball bats. She arches an eyebrow, then glances down at the coffee you gave her. Then she shrugs. "No harm in a little get-well present." She says, and turns back to watching the hallway.

You enter the room slowly, and find Anna in her hospital gown, reclining in her bed. Her without tattoos is still a shocking difference, as is her eyes being their normal soft brown color. The bandage over her cheeks and nose covering the spot where Dr. M scarred her is also an interesting difference. She looks over at you when you enter, and you walk over and sit next to her bed. She smiles faintly when you sit down, and says. "Hi, Daniel." You quirk an eyebrow. "You remember me?" She nods slowly. She takes a hand and presses it to her head. "Up here, I know that I don't know you very well at all. My memories of the times I met you are all blurry and indistinct, like looking through a red telescope that isn't adjusted right." She migrates her hand down to her left side, over her heart. "But in here, I feel like I know you better than I think." You nod, slowly. "Well, one way of putting it..." You remark. She smiles sadly. "Even if I don't remember it very well, I do remember you trying to help me, in my dreams. I wanted to say thank you, for trying to help, even if I didn't deserve it. And, I wanted to say I'm sorry. My petty jealousy put us all in danger." You shake your head. "Don't mention it. You'd have done the same if our positions were switched, I'm sure." Anna doesn't seem so.

Like your mother." Anna sighs. "Oh, mom. My jealousy of her talent also drove me to this. Now, afterward, I'm not so sure why I ever wanted those skills..." She trails off. "She loves you, y'know." You tell her. Anna shoots you a sideways glance. "She told the police she'd spend a fortune on your lawyers, if it came to it. It wont, since the Military-Industrial Complex is covering the whole thing up, but she was willing." "The who are doing what now?" she says. You explain the story to her. "Whoa." Is all she says.

You decide it's time to break out the box. You hold it out to her. "Here. A friend of mine wanted you to have this." She frowns at it, takes the box, and starts opening it. She gets one end open, revealing the grip of that sword of black stone Regis had earlier. "What's... this?" She asks, and looks up at you. You are silent for a moment, considering your words. "I think..." you begin, slowly, "that it's a chance at redemption. Its an instrument you can use to make this world a better place, and maybe make up for some of the bad stuff you did in it." She nods slowly. She takes a hold of the sword, and pulls it out from the box, and holds it up. She looks it up and down, and turns back to look at you, and smiles, big and honest. "I think I like the sound of that."

    End of Act I, too.
Let's get our final character chart at the end of the Red Star arc.

So, this ends what I've thought of as Act I of this story.

The overall theme for this quest is "What do you do with power?", but the theme for this act is "How does power change you?".

Throughout this time, Dan has been continually faced with challenged about what to do with what has been given to him. And he's reacted by trying to not be all that different. He's still Dan, just now Dan can do more things. Anna was also a testament to this, with how she fell into the slippery slope of power.

The next Act, which we'll get into tomorrow, has a theme of "Now that you have power, how do you find your place in the world?", and we'll begin with getting the expedition to the Vermont Exclusion Zone out of the way, finally.

That was a remarkably easy favor to pay back. Regis is a good guy.

    Sounds fun, I'll be there.

The biggest way our power has changed us so far is giving us a larger social circle and a red headed mad scientist girlfriend. It'll be good to see where the power leads us after that.

    >"Now that you have power, how do you find your place in the world?"
I predict persecution ala X-Men in the near future.

Here you are. WP has been awarded, and for his heroism, Dan has another point of Base Will.

I never understood what those Extras were in the bottom right corner. I've never used ORE, so the whole system is machine code to me currently, but I'll slowly figure it out.

No, that was the 80s. Now society is pretty over it. Metahumans are just people now, like you and me.

Places it could lead you in the near future include:

    Vermont
    California
    London
    New England
    Japan
    SPAAAAAACE

    >Metahumanity
This sounds hilarious to me. We have to go to Japan just to see what it felt like when all the animes came true.

We'll see if it falls out that way. I do have plans for a much more sandbox-y approach to this next act.

But all of them will be cool, just in different ways.

Damn, missed this thread. I have a good excuse though, as of tonight I'm an uncle!

First off: kudos to everyone for saving Anna. I proud /tg/, I proud.
Second: Is Dr. M still answering questions by any chance? Just for me?
    Third: Regis is a baller.

    She can, maybe. Ask away.

    To Dr. Moreau:

What is your favorite invention that you created?
How many times have you, to your knowledge, saved humanity?
    Have you ever been married?

And perhaps the most telling thing a person can be asked:
    What is your favorite movie?

I still think the Vermont trip is the next order of Business.
