So, after extensive analysis, I have determined that /tg/ is the best board.

So /tg/ is the best board because it caters to well-meaning (but also kind of psychologically uncomfortable/weird and totally ineffectual) escapism?

    I don't think so Tim.

I like this board. Hell, I really fucking love this board. But I don't get the obsession with having to be 'the best' and our searching for highly dubious justifications like that one as to why we *are* the 'best'.

Shit, let's look at it in the context of RPGs. What's the best RPG? Well, you might think there's one - but could you get everyone to agree on one? Even just at your FLGS? Probably not, no. That's because there isn't really a best RPG, but there's probably a 'your favorite RPG'. That goes for boards too.

I'm more interested to see your research. I believe you, of course, being a frequenter of /ck/, /v/ and /pol/ and thus having what I feel is a good test spread, but in order to make the claim as fact rather than opinion... Indeed, it must be an extensive set of observations.

Of course you're also talking about establishing objective criterion for 'best board,' which is something that one cannot exactly do from an enjoyment stance.

Perhaps I really like getting into arguments with liberals, /pol/ is certainly the best board for that.
Perhaps I like yelling at atheists, well, then I should probably be on Reddit. Is Reddit the best place on the internet? Jesus Christ no.
Maybe I like futa. Welcome to /d/!

In one way or another, /tg/ can fulfill just about anything you can find on any other board, with the exception of porn and we even get that some times.

If the mods lightened up a bit, we might even be able to get back into the idea of turning any conceivable concept into a game and thus be able to truly discuss any and all topics on this board.

I know some people get really pissy at the idea of stealth topic discussion under the guise of game design, but fuck those guys. /tg/ is at its best when it is filtering everything through concepts like dice and points and scores.

/diy/ is possibly the best board in terms of staying on topic and doing what it was meant to do, but /tg/ has to best awesome to shit ratio of any other board.

/tg/ can sort of simultaneously cater to every topic under the right conditions. The very idea of storytelling and gaming are practically universal and all encompassing to the point of making the idea of "not /tg/-related" an astronomically stupid thought.

/tg/ is at its best when its posters understand and acknowledge this fact.

Additionally, /tg/ seems to be pretty good at ignoring shit they don't like or at least offering a conversation spurring counter-point to things they disagree with. I emphasize the "pretty good" part of that because it still happens, on occasion, but less so than other boards. /co/ for instance, is in a constant state of screaming about there being more than one of a certain kind of thread.

There's a difference between taking a troll at face value and discussing a topic seriously or even just facetiously and running with it until it snowballs into hilarity and taking a troll and flipping your shit into some sort of uncontrollable fucknado of rage and hate, just unloading seething fury unto a thread with unyielding persistence.

That second one is the problem. Some people just can't shut the fuck up and insist on stationing themselves in threads that they have made it their life's mission to hate into oblivion. What we end up with is the occasional blemish of a thread that is just shameful to have around and makes everyone here look retarded.

In my experience, what happens isn't actually /tg/ feeding a troll, it's /tg/ ignoring the troll to talk about something semi-related to the OP's post, another troll joining in and forming a troll circlejerk where they destroy a thread, and occasionally they actually do feed the troll.

Much like tripfags in general, the problem was generally that people would complain that sergalfag was posting in a thread. Not what sergalfag was posting, just that they had posted and that on its own was a heinous enough crime to require thread derailment and destruction.

Sergalfag was pretty awful on their own, but the bitchy complaining was just as bad and it should not be ignored because that's bad behavior. Bad /tg/. BAD.

Yes, because bumping a troll thread to talk about meaningless shit totally isn't feeding the troll.

/tg/'s problem is that it assumes everything it does is or will be a great success and not at all a steaming pile of bad ideas.

You may be right about /tg/ being generally bad at Magic, but I bristle at your slander of the AaJ threads. galvanicAutogenitor is a scholar and a gentlemen among tripfags.

If they were feeding the troll they'd be raging at the OP, not acting like /tg/ usually does.

Wasn't Sergalfag not that awful a poster (I've seen it come from beyond the vale of permabanning to join into a random thread, which turns into a combination discussion/shitstorm) but despised by a few who would create an instant shitstorm at the very sight of Sergalfag and its posting style & silly avatarfaggotry?

Sergalfag may have posted in a pretentious manner, though meaning nothing by it so it attests, but he's no Jim Profit. And even Jim Profit wasn't that bad; he was a stupid cunt, but no one could bother to ignore him. Mostly because of /tg/ poster's tendency to defend their HONAH and never shying from a friendly debate. Which usually leads to a shitstorm starting if the debater in question has no interest in keeping it friendly.

He was a pretty bad poster. Coming in to strike up pretentious devil's advocate shit when you know people will get pissed at you is trolling by any definition.

Sergalfag posted pretentious white noise while roleplaying some kind of creepy furry thing. It did a good job of acting like it was contributing to a thread, but really it was just posting things that kind of looked like a contribution.

Here's the thing about /tg/. Ordinary threads are legendary for being easily trolled. Indeed, it has often been said that /tg/ trolls itself.

However, deliberate troll threads are frequently turned into something awesome that you would never find on any other board... indeed, anywhere else online.

And this is the true essence of /tg/. We're all here to have fun, and to help each other have fun, and to spend a lot of time planning to help other people have fun. Try saying that about any other board. We have a large proportion of non-pompous, creative-as-fuck, genuinely nice adults (or kids who act like adults) who are nevertheless incapable of staying on any one topic for more than 10 consecutive posts.

I wouldn't want it any other way.

I was promised that there would be a Lucha-based RPG system in here! Where are the Luchadores at?

Failing that, who the heck archived this thread under the title Luchadores: power of the Lucha?

Or, y'know, we can just build this thing from scratch.
