At the moment? Rather than a shield you actually use your biotic powers to create a shield. You of course can charge but you have no accurate measurement of it's power. You'd compare it to a car hitting a mannequin though. You've only just begun your advanced biotic training but more techniques are always possible later on.
Though your basic biotic powers are present and quite easy for you now.

You take point and head up the hill, the squad is a tight formation behind you, Briggs is rapidly catching up, ready to show off his own charge you're sure. As you reach the crest of the hill a slug whizzes by your head,
"Sniper!" you yell as you and the rest of the squad take cover just out of his field of fire.
All you managed to see before you ducked was the facility entrance, it was a low ramp, about 100 yards out.
Fire peppers the dirt in front of your position, looks like he has support as well.

Haskill get's on the com "Transport this is Wendigo, in need of air support, need an attack run on the following coordinates.."
"NO CAN DO SARGE, EVAC'ING WOUNDED 10 CLICKS NORTH, HEADED BACK TO ORBIT. NO AIR SUPPORT AVAILABLE" the pilot shrieks back over the com.
"DAMMIT!" Haskill shuts off his com link.

"Well looks like I'm up, let's see if a machine can handle the best damn sniper in the System's Alliance." Reggie unslings his Mantis rifle and says, I will need some bait to draw his fire though. Any volunteers?"

"I'll go." Newton steps up.

The gun itself is fried but the mod isn't. It's advanced heat sink. You can put this on anything with a rifle base and it will increase the gun's damage by allowing you to up the energy going into the gun. You'll burn a thermal clip faster but your shots will hit much harder.
