Ehh... Let's not Tag-Team. While yes, more interesting, it is too dangerous. See it this way...

Let's say that we send someone against them, let us say Dave. Dave is against the Lancer, but the lancer tags out for the twin energy lasers guy. Dave gets fucked. Then they tag out again to someone who can defeat our next guy, and so on and so forth. This isn't even taking into account that if one of them is much better than the rest of the team, in one versus one they can only win once. However, in a tag team, they could defeat the whole team, or perhaps two people, leaving it instead one versus two, or something akin.

One versus one is the safer, although some would argue more boring, choice.

You get into the transports, wondering exactly what the hell a Zepplin battlefield is supposed to look like.

After posing the question to the rest of the team....

"Come on, how crazy could it possibly be?" Dave asks.

"In Vegas? It's probably going to blow our minds. It's going to be insane." Laurie chides while you notice some techs attaching something to your cores, and when asked they responded that the mag-lock attachments and the parachutes were safety precautions. The chute would auto-deploy in case of a ring-out, and the mag boots were to 'broaden your horizons'.

"50 bucks says it's nothing we haven't already had to deal with."

    "Easy money."

You are then asked to deploy onto the prepared platform for your team. Launching out you get what the Zeppelin battle field was supposed to be.

    Pure spectacle.

Looking around you can see hundreds of aircraft of varying size in a constantly shifting formation with cables and platforms strung between them. A good many of the ships have some form of armor plating on them to support a core's weight and protect it from errant shots. In the middle of the formation, and possibly the only stable landmark is the air-fort Daedalus. An impossible flying maze of gun emplacements, shields, launch and supply ports for fighters and cores almost a mile wide and half again as long, with the stacks and thrusters keeping the behemoth afloat.

    >>19063643

You stare in awe as the platform you stand on drifts up to one side of it, and you see the massive construction up close. It has to be almost 500 feet tall at it's most extreme points.

First you hear Dave's voice meekly admit that owes Laurie a 50.

Then you hear Mr Smooth's voice crackle on over the radio. "Alright, here's how it works. You get taken out, the next man on your team steps in. You fall off the platform the Chutes will save you, but it also counts as a kill for the other team's score. The mag boots WILL support the ENTIRE weight of your core, as will all of the visible platforms. Do not land anywhere obviously not meant to catch you. The various blue patches you see scattered around are the Tag zones. you hit it, you're out, your team mate is in. They are required to stop shooting at you as soon as it's a confirmed contact that we will announce. As soon as you're out, you must go DIRECTLY to your support platform, where you currently are, and whose location will always be displayed on your HUD. You may not use the last point where you tagged out to tag out again, the location of 'expired' tag points will be displayed to avoid confusion. While you are on the bench you may do basic repairs: get ammo refilled, get some new plates. No new parts, you lose an arm it stays gone. Do you understand the rules as I have explained them?"

    >Do you? Last chance for questions.

"Seven.... Six......" Smooth's voice drones into your speakers.

You listen to the incessant banter between Laurie and Dave, trying to cool their nerves.

"Five.... Four...." A quick ping shows you that Josh has sent you a last minute good luck note. A moment later another one comes in from Ken, who apparently is helping your mother pass on the best wishes.

"Three.... Two..... One-" Mooch gives your team the heads up that they're in position. Laurie heats up his jump-thrusters.

"START!" Smooth's voice roars along with some distant cheers from the crowd as the platform rocks with Laurie's sudden departure. On the platform opposite, you see the Lancer deploy and start coming to Laurie in a staggered charge. Laurie immediately boosts back while deploying auto-turrets.

The Heavy hits the deck hard and dashes into optimal range, while Dave charges him with his Grenade launcher. As the two of them begin to blast in circles around each other, The enemy takes one of Dave's Legs off with a well placed blast, and clips his grenade launcher, cooking off all the stored rounds.

He screams as he loses his other arm in the process, and seriously damages his armor in the deal.

Then he does something absolutely insane, even by Dave's standards.

    He charges.

A flying kick to the other Core's chest with his remaining leg knocks him off balance, and then he activated the mag-lock on his leg and pushed all of his boosters to a borderline meltdown to drag his opponent off the edge of the ship with him.

After they hit the point of no return he disengages his boot so the chutes can deploy safely. A a second later, Smooth's voice confirms that they're out of the match.

You jump off the platform and land on the Daedalus' deck, and you see the enemy captain do the same from across the way.

So you do the only logical thing you can: After checking to make sure that the Daedalus isn't directly beneath you, you step off the side of the platform and begin to freefall.

You take advantage of the rocket hitting him in the face and obscuring his sensors to hit his legs. You manage to completely sever one of them and damage the other as you soar past him and barely make the landing on the edge of the Daedalus.

Then you look back and realize what you just did.

"Not bad kid," your opponent say with a grunt of pain. "but you're going to have to do better than that." He activates the mag-lock on his remaining leg to try and catch himself.

"You know, I WOULD take your threats seriously, but you really don't have much of a leg to stand on."

And lo and behold, the mags catch, but the velocity and the damage you dealt proves to be too much for it as it tears off with sickening crunch as your opponent lets out a disbelieving "Cheeky BASTARD...." Before plummeting to the inevitable ring-out.

you check the feed Ari's sending you, and the Lancer is already gearing up to come kill you. Your rockets are gone entirely, and you've spent a few rounds. Otherwise you're doing mostly fine.

The exchange is fast and brutal. The Lancer opens with a salvo that hit's Laurie head on but thankfully didn't do too much damage. Then the spear was thrown forward in a lunge, which Laurie ducked, still losing his chaff-pod on his shoulder, and shoulder checked him in return.

The Lancer booted back to re-asses and took a flail to the face for his efforts. This time the cannons did quite a bit more damage to your friend's core, but Laurie follows it up be stepping in, hooking his lance around his torso, and then mag-lock on the one foot. Then his boosters fire up and he begins to spin his entire core, whipping his opponent out on the end of the line before flinging him into the nearest wall. While he lay there stunned for a brief moment, Laurie unloaded at him until Smooth called it for pilot safety.

Team Snaps moves on to the final round.

3 mil pays off Hope's debts if I remember correctly. If we win we also become rather famous. An unknown team from a blown up town comes out of no where and wins the championship. The sponsership and endorsement money alone should be enough for some core upgrades, much less the fact we'll probably get better missions.
