Seems like it's been a while since we've done this, doesn't it? haha!

yeah. hospitals suck. so do seven year old injuries that apparently will kill you someday. go figure.

Character sheet and short summary here: http://pastebin.com/zFxWNup1
Archives here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Strike+witches+1989

++

You've always loved traveling. It's always shown in your dreams.

Your parents said you got it from your mother's father- a wartime pilot. He'd flown Corsairs over the Pacific, ranging from Midway to Honshu. Before that, he'd been a railroad man, working for the Chicago-Northwestern. He'd returned there after the war, building a near-legendary reputation in the company with his mileage and safety record. Last you'd heard, he was headed up to Canada to 'try his hand' on the ice roads.

Hell, it's the reason you joined the navy instead of your father's beloved corps. Marine corps aviators just don't see the same carrier time, and they hardly travel in the states either, with just a few Marine corps air stations on either coast. But in the Navy, ah. Now that appealed to you. A different port almost every trip, a new city to explore, new people to meet.

Interestingly, your dreams are never in sound. Never. That's why the low, incessant wail of a siren and distant sound of rolling thunder is so jarring. You're already swimming back to consciousness when Merlin starts shaking you frantically.

“Frank! Frank wake up!”

You grunt, rolling out of the bed with one hand keeping your poncho liner up to your midsection. Kid doesn't need to see you in your skivvies, after all.

“That noise better not be what I think it is.” You growl.

Merlin's trying to tug you out of your seated position, both hands wrapped around one wrist and throwing her whole weight back in a futile effort to bring you to your feet. Kid weighs nothing and you don't even budge as you mentally process the screaming of multiple jet engines firing up.

>>
“They're attacking Japan! Ice wants to see us all right now, we're scrambling!” Merlin yells over the cacophony.

“Do we even have time for this shit?” You yell back, suddenly snapping to full awareness and snatching your flight suit, trying to struggle into it as you hop frantically after Merlin.

“They're only hitting the southern islands and the west coast!” She shouts. “Katya's talking with the fleet already, they're calling for air support while they make for the ocean, but Katsumi's asking Ice for help covering Tokyo!”

You manage to struggle into your flight suit before you hit the living room, where most of the Witches are already clustered around Ice and Katsumi. Ice is surrounded by the faint glow of magic, and, as she explains the situation, you can see it perfectly in your mind's eye. It's your first experience with her talent, and you've got to admit, it's kinda creepy.

2/3 (whoops)

“Ok, here's the deal. We've got confirmed attacks coming in from south of Nagasaki and from the north-northwest of Toyama. Even money it's the Chinese throwing in with the Soviets. No word yet on Korea.” Ice says, her voice strangely calm. “We've got two tasks here. First, we've got to cover the fleet until the Chicago and Antietam can bring their weapons and radars up and the Sara can start launching fighters. Second, Katsumi has asked, officially, for support over Tokyo proper. It's her fear that the attackers may be trying to draw air cover west and south, and leave the city relatively open for an attack from a source at sea. If they do that, it's going to take a beating. There's almost no antiair coverage, and only an understrength battalion of IJA troops scattered in there.”

She pauses, the control evident in her voice contrasting starkly with her indecision yesterday- and her behavior at Adak. We're back at war and there's no hiding it now, you think.

She looks at you. “Frank, I want you and the twins to take Katya and Rosalie out and cover the fleet. The rest of us will set up a CAP over Tokyo till the situation is under control. Understood?”

[] “Aye, Ma'am.”

[x] “Aye, Ma'am.” (by 3)

“Aye Ma'am.” you affirm, nodding once. “What do you want us to do when the fleet's got their own CAP up?”

Ice looks over at you. “Join up on us. Once the cruisers can bring their AEGIS suites online, the fleet's covered from just about anything on the surface or in the air anyway, and the sara's wing has new model tomcats. Japanese antisub aircraft are up, and there's a six six one in the area, so we're-”

She's cut off by a series of loud whuds and the sudden buzzsaw scream of multiple anti-aircraft guns opening up.

“Shit! They got here sooner than we thought. Don't worry about this place, the base force will cover it! Go go go!” She orders, taking off at a run for the hangar.

You struggle into your rescue vest at a dead run, Rosalie passing you by like the fucking roadrunner- you swear to god she yelled “beep bep” as she passed.

She'll deny it later, of course.

Your bird is, thankfully, fully armed- though you're unfamiliar with the missiles hanging from her wings, they look remarkably similar to sidewinders with an extra set of fins. The fact that each wing slings six of them on triple racks on the outer pair of hardpoints sits just fine with you, though. Your inboard hardpoints boast six more AMRAAM looking weapons- though painted in the characteristic blue of the IJNAF.

You scramble into the cockpit and begin your startup while the Japanese ground crew straps you in- thank god they had an APU hooked up. You hear Merlin hop into place behind you, the muted 'click' of her connecting to the intercom followed shortly by a burst of static as she gets your radios set to the local frequencies.

You've started rolling before your canopy drops, the chock blocks removed as soon as your first turbine started up. The hangar doors gape open, Merlin doing her sensor checks as you hit the canopy controls.
>>
I'm on time for a Strikers '89 thread?

My body is ready.
>>
Outside, the cold dawn is split by columns of smoke- some nearby- and streams of tracers lazily arching into the sky. For their part, the guys on the ground aren't giving your attackers an easy time of it- air traffic control is still directing the last few flights off the deck, while the base force's type 87 self-propelled anti-aircraft guns track low-flying attackers, keeping them well away from the runway and hangars.

Still, you feel very vulnerable as you line up, not even pausing to run up your engines before letting off the brakes. Your wyvern seems anxious to get into the fight as it leaps skyward, afterburner plumes trailing a good hundred plus feet behind it.

You're not first off the ground- that honor goes to Rosalie. There's a few IJNAF birds up here, including a pair of their Shinden II fighters, but you don't see any immediate threats, either.

The immediate airspace looks clear enough that you don't waste too much time worrying about the rest of the squadron as they scramble. Instead, you make make a broad turn to the south, noting that most of the fires nearby seem to be from the base- with a few points in the outlying suburbs originating from downed aircraft. Nearby, a few other colums crawl skyward from Iruma Airbase, but you can't tell the extent of the damage from here.

“Rosalie, form up on me. We'll get over the fleet right now, the twins and Katya can follow along when they get airborne.” You order, thanking god that you can actually see the port- and while it's hard to tell, yes, most of the fleet's ships are moving. Even the Saratoga herself is pulling away from the pier, her battlegroup momentarily enlarged by the presence of a few IJN combatants, most notably the IJN Ise- the Japanese answer to the Soviet Kirov battlecruisers.

Rosalie takes up the 'traditional' witch spot in a formation- alongside and perilously close to your canopy. You only spare her a glance- noticing the set of her features and the determined look in her eye. It's easy to forget she's got more years in than you do- not by much, but a few- and that French navy witches are renowned for being supremely defensive of their ships.

[x] “Merlin, we need to see. Get the sensors online.”

“Merlin, we need some eyes. Heat 'em up.” You order, keeping your own head swiveling as you do so. No high altitude tracks, nothing over Tokyo proper that you can see- looks like the west is still relatively secure.

The Twins and Katya join up just as Merlin starts feeding your sensor data to one of your large multifunction displays. The ships show up in stark display against the sea, your multiple sensors painting a composite picture Hollywood would be proud of.

“Warhound, Warhound. This is Mafia. Keep 'em off of us for ten minutes, and we'll be at the mouth of the harbor. Think you can do that?”

You bite back a scathing response at the tone in the man's voice when Merlin highlights several new thermal tracks out to sea.

“Missile launches, Frank.” she says. “Not many, though, and I don't see a source.”

>>
>>23403121

>>
>>23403039
I'm not sure it's so much that, compared to arm chair warriors who think it'll go exactly like in their video games.

Example: going for the key target while there's still escorts as the enemy will adjust and form a wall to block, resulted in an wasted effort and time not spent taking down other high-priority targets.

It doesn't help that some people are out to either splatter witches or be a goddamn glory hound.

>>23403155
So far shit hasn't smashed through the fan.
>>
>>23403172

Think of the bright side, at least we're not totally screwed if our bounce button somehow becomes broken.
>>
>>23403155
If we're being serious, I entirely agree.

With the Widow, no matter what happened, bounce was always the right choice. As long as you hit B to Bounce you won everything.

Ghost is doing a far better job with actual tactical decisions.

“Rosalie! Kataya! Get down there and don't let those vampires go. Sharptooth, stay up high with me.” Your pair of striker witches nod, rolling inverted and headed for the deck, their weapons up.

Witches actually excel at killing anti-ship and cruise missiles- it's one of the many reasons the navy still loves it's witches. While their value as spotters has decreased with the advent of radar and missiles, their value in defending the fleet has skyrocketed.

The two girls jet off below you- headed out to sea and what you hope will be a short and successful intercept.

“Mafia, we've got inbound vampires. I've sent my witches to intercept, but you might want to run up CWIS just in case.” You drawl over the radio, keeping a close eye on the MFD. The missile tracks- twenty of them- are racing to meet your witches, now highlit in blue.

“Got it Warhound. Be aware, we're tracking some inbound bogies at angels 30 from the northwest. No more than twelve, one-two.”

You frown. Northwest? And thirty thousand feet is damn high for missiles or witches, and any bomber would be screaming for the deck right about now. But where the hell could they have come from? The soviets only have the one carrier, and that's not supposed to be finished yet.

“Got it mafia,” you respond, flicking over to intercom. “Merlin, can you tell me anything?” You ask, twisting your fighter to a more northerly direction.

“Nothing yet. There's some kind of jamming there... I think they have a witch with them, but I can't tell.” She says over the intercom.

“Eight minutes, Warhound.” The officer back on the Chicago says.

[] Keep the witches out to sea running a barrier patrol against more missiles. We'll get this group.

As opposed to armchair warriors who think they're brilliant military tacticians? The setting clearly has both historical and cinematic elements, and magic on top of it. The rules on what will and won't work are probably pretty flexible, and account more for what the reader want to see than anything else.

I smell a trap. Don't leave the fleet undefended.

In addition, make a note to deck the idiot onboard the Chicago who decided to go full-cold in the middle of a warzone. If his ass isn't on the next flight to the worst posting in the Navy, file a formal complaint.

[x] Recall the witches after they intercept those missiles.

You consider leaving the girls out to sea- they'll make a fantastic barrier against antiship missiles- but if there's hostile witches up there, you'll probably need them.

“Mafia, I'm letting my witches run that intercept, but then I'm recalling them. My RIO's saying she thinks there's hostile sparkles up there.” You warn the fleet. The Chicago seems to be the lead ship of the group, at least when communicating with you.

“Understood Warhound. The Saratoga's launching witches, they can take up the BARCAP when yours leave.” the operator down on the sea says. “Seven minutes.”

“Merlin, any luck?” You ask, beginning a climb. Altitude doesn't count for much in a BVR fight, but every little bit helps.

“Nothing. They definitely have at least one witch with them though- she's jamming everything I have.” Merlin sounds almost distraught.

A heavily Russian accented woman's voice breaks across your radio right after.

“That is because you are weak little harlot. The butcher of the Bering sea is mine! You do not deserve to share the sky with him!”

“No one calls Merlin a harlot and gets to keep breathing. Come get some, red!” You roar back, slamming your throttles wide open and feeling your fighter lurch in the sky as her experimental turbofans wail like dying suns, suddenly unleashed.

“My beloved shows his teeth!” The Russian answers back. “The rest of you, handle the small fry. The butcher is mine and mine alone.”

The formation ahead is of four aircraft- navalised flankers, it looks like- and one witch, her long black hair streaming behind her freely, a PP-19 already up and tracking your fighter.

“tch.” she chides, pulling the trigger and sending a stream of tracers across the sky at you, forcing you to roll over them. “My love has perhaps lost some of his edge? Spending too much time around loose women?”

“Frank, She's still tracking!” Merlin cries.

“Be quiet little whore! This fight is between two lovers! Do not pollute it's purity!”

[x] Into the clouds! We have sensors other than the Mk.I eyeball, she doesn't!

Insanity aside, she'd have a marked advantage down low, and if you remember what little you talked with other witches, fighting at altitude is harder for them- without supplemental oxygen and insulated flight suits they have to maintain a specific shield, draining them more quickly than a fight down low.

Of course, there's every possibility you're remembering that wrong, but hey. Worth a shot. You get the briefest glimpse of the twins ripping into her escorting fighters, their wyvern flashing as their magic flows through the magitech suite and into the fighter. The sea flankers scatter like chickens under a rocket powered hawk, their formation breaking apart in a desperate defensive effort.

“Tch.” Your unnamed assailant says, observing the same. “Do not worry, my darling. They do not matter. It is just you and I!”

“I-I can't find her, Frank. She's jamming everything.” Merlin says, her voice strained. “I... I'm useless again. I'm sorry”

You instinctively roll right, dodging a stream of tracers by inches, breaking into the sky above the clouds. Up here, pillars of white vapor crawl up several thousand feet above the layer below, creating an almost surreal forest.

While they won't stop you, they do block lines of sight, which might be useful.

“My love, this is beautiful. A fitting place for us, yes?” The soviet witch says, breaking into the clear well behind you. “You have chosen a good place for us to dance. But you cannot run, beloved. Come, show me the skill that made them begin calling you the butcher!”

You pull around a cloud pillar, hoping she'll try and cut you off by taking the shorter route around the front- and she doesn't disappoint, she's right where you thought she'd be.

Her sharp intake of breath is all that gives voice to her surprise as your 25mm rounds slam into her sheild.

“My love truly shows his claws! Ah, our children will make great heroes!” She says, her shields flashing with the impact as you sweep past, pivoting in place and bringing her own weapon up to return fire a split second too late as you disappear around the far side of a cloud again.

[] “Lady, you can't win this. Go home and be a family woman.”

I'm not sure how to feel about that. On the one hand, if we become their personal monster, they begin to fear us. And when they fear us, we become stronger. We become better. But we must never forget it's a display. A posture. Like a gorilla thumping it's chest, or a lion's roar. If we lose ourself to the display, if we succumb to the horror, then we become the monster, and are diminished. Not more than a man, but less.

[x] “So why did they start calling me the butcher, anyway?”

You grunt, pulling the fighter through another hard turn, trying to keep your lead. You put rounds into her, she's yet to do the same, so you're in the lead. That's how it works in your mind, at least.

“Focus, Merlin. Shut down the set if she's jamming, see what you can do with the bird. I still need you up here.” You strain through the turn.

Merlin doesn't answer, but the MFD displaying the sensor tracks switches back to a weapons listing- it's default setting. Both your cannons still have plenty of ammo, and of course, all your missiles are still on their racks.

“He is too kind to you little harlot. My love does not need anyone but me!” The soviet witch seethes across the radio.

You're not in any mood to dignify that with a real response, but if you can keep her talking...

“So, why do they call me the butcher, anyway?” You ask over your compromised frequency.

“You do not know? Maybe they were attempting to keep Soviet respect for my beloved from him!” She answers, sounding confused at first. You still can't see her, but you think she might be hiding near where you first shot at her.

“The survivors from the Western force first told us of you.” She says from wherever she is. You still can't see her.
>>
“They spoke of a pilot who launched himself headlong into a losing fight over Alaska, just to kill our best pilots in the theatre. While it looked like he was shot down, another pilot re-appeared and killed many people on Shemya island.” She stops, her voice glowing with a definite, insane love. This could be a problem.

“Then there was the battle over the Bering sea! The Poltava and her escorts attempting to flee back to soviet airspace, and meeting a US carrier! Then the butcher appeared again, and dove straight into the Poltava, destroying her with all hands! He did not stop to help those weaker than him or attempt to save the US carrier, but he went straight for the kill! When they said he was here in Japan, I could not believe my luck! My beloved! Here!”

Wait.. that's... that's not how that happened! Right? And damnit, where is she?

Her tracers give her position away, causing you to violently jerk your aircraft out of their path and go screaming back into the clouds, the witch hot on your tail. Cursing everything that can hover, you peel around the base of a cloud pillar, not expecting her to make the same mistake twice- and she doesn't, staying glued to your six.

>Not really as the initial assult damaged its engines so it couldn't escape fast. Please stop trying to justify gloryhounding.

We're not sure how fast the thing is, we have a very limited resource called FUEL, and there was a Russian fleet coming in to reinforce it just a few minutes out. That carrier had a very good chance of getting away.

>even so it could ahve been done better. It's not a video game where accomplishing hte objective makes everything else alright.

War is hell broseph. We did the best we could and it turns out we couldn't both accomplish the mission and save everyone.

We did not know that going for the carrier would cost us the Kitty Hawk, and we still don't know for sure if we could have saved it at all.

It is absolutely a tragedy and there will be a time for memorials and remembrance and a whole lot of crying but right now some bitch is trying to kill us.

Martian anti-capital ship masers hit the magazine, causing it go and break the ship in half. No chance for anyone to get to the lifeboats.
>>
>>23406940

I believe the fact that we didn't even lift a finger to stop that from happening also counts. It may have been their fault, but we did nothing to prevent it.
>>
>>23406779
Anon, think for a second. Do the Soviets really NEED a goddamn aircraft carrier for the wars they're fighting?! Are they not fighting all in theaters where they could operate from airstrips easily?

And do you really trading a supercarrier with all hands (and part of the CAG) is worth the trade for a "superweapon" that is effectively useless to the enemy?
>>
>>23406976
How could we have done anything? We only had two super harpoons, and we'd only probably be able to down one reliably, which would just let the second one waste the Kitty Hawk.

Meanwhile the carrier gets away to fight another day because we didn't fucking follow orders and achieve the objective.
>>
>>23406994
They don't have any airfields in Alaska and their force projection in the Middle East probably blows too.

You are right in that it definitely sucks a lot more for our side, but the fault for that lies with the fucking martians.

>>

>>23406994

>>
>>23407012
>two Super Harpoons
>two Harpoons turned into dumb rockets with massively expanded warheads

Anon, remember what it took to kill an aerial dread back in the Martian War? It was done twice with fucking HVARs. A single Harpoon with a 5-600+ pound warhead would have obliterated them.
>>
>>23406900
Then why aren't we in Alaska anymore? Because we (as in everyone) regained air superiority and because we (as in Fronk) shot down millions, maybe even billions of dollars of Russian aircraft on our own.

This war, to some degree, does revolve around the conflicts we fight in. As has already been stated, our actions may have lost us a carrier, but they certainly cost the Russians their flying carrier, which should help bring about the end of the war much sooner and save lives on the ground, on the water, and in the air.
>>
>>23407034
Who said that? When they entered the war, they were sailing up to help kill it.
>>
>>23407034
Not entirely sure about that considering they entered the war about a minute after it went down and must have been right fucking there planning Pearl Harbor Take 2: Red Edition for a while.
>>
>>23407012
Actually, if I recall correctly, it wasn't the super harpoons that did it, but regular missiles that we shot into the engine intakes of the flying carrier that took it down.
>>
>>23407012

A single Harpoon was enough to seriously injure it, enough at least to stick it in the docks for a not-insignificant length of time. The other could be used to disable a dread. A long shot? Yes, but at the very least we could've bought some time for an evacuation.
>>
>>23407067
>>23407079
The timing was far too convenient. They were obviously holding back to see how the battle would turn out. Notice they started mobilizing the MOMENT the carrier went down.
>>

Or maybe the Martians aren't putting the same tissue paper armor on their heavies as they were in 1943.

Everything in this universe has plot armor. In SWQ we had HEAVY KILLIN RAWKETS that we killed a heavy with and here we had CARRIER KILLIN MISSILES that we killed a carrier with. Mismatching hard counters often backfires in narrative.
>>
>>23407012
One is better than two functioning dreads and the carrier was not fast what so ever. If one was taken down and the fighters thinned out some, the Phantoms could have assisted Frank and Co. in the task. That and Merlin could have suped up a lesser missile to do the task like >>23407051 said.

>>23407055
The invasion wasn't so much serious but a feint to draw away forces from the main theaters: the ones in Europe. Their bit in the middle east is likely along these lines.

And how are those two fronts doing? Not so great as they're kicking ass left and right and they have GODDAMN WITCH TANKS.

As far as we know it, this carrier was likely a test model to be used later in Europe.

>>23407114

Your wyvern isn't equipped with standard chaff and flare, instead using decoys that combine the role of IR flares and radar chaff. Basically little cylinders fitted with powerful, short-lived emitters and full of magnesium powder, they're designed to confuse both IR and radar guided missiles.

And so far, you've never used them.

If you remember your college chemistry correctly, though, powdered magnesium burns very bright and very hot. As your decoy launchers ripple-fire, you hear a muted curse as it forces the witch into evasive maneuvers, trying to avoid the searingly hot little canisters suddenly polluting her flight path.

>You should be able to see the dreads coming for quite some time.
Did they fly close to the Poltova in order to confuse the Kitty Hawk's radar operators into thinking it was 1 giant signature instead of 3?
I mean, since the dreadnoughts use some kind of weird anti-gravity tech, couldn't they fly really close to each other without wind vortexes causing them to lose control?
>>

to be fair, the M3 cav-scout variant isn't bad as in a scout / tank destroyer role.

but yeah, it kinda fails as a troop transport.
>>
It gives you time enough to que up a pair of agiles and lock them on via your helmet mounted systems. The vicious little missiles take a good look at their target then drop clear of your starboard nacelle bay, arrowing through the air at the Soviet witch.

She shoots one from the sky with a well placed burst of 9mm fire, and attempts to dodge the other at the last second, discounting the missile's agility. It twists nearly ninety degrees in mid air and detonates a second later, hammering her shields yet again.

“Warhound, we're clear, bogies are all down. We're on our way!” Clarissa calls over the radio, and you grin.

“Tch. I knew they would not last long enough. We will continue this dance again later, my love! Remember you belong to Konstantina Stalin!”

She dives into the clouds, disappearing inside them, her jamming making her invisible to everything you have.

“Warhound, this is Mafia. We're clear, the Sara is launching fighters.” The Chicago calls, seconds before the twin's wyvern breaks through the clouds.

“Frank? We are moving to rejoin.” Katya says, immediately after.

Damn, it would have been nice if they were around for that fight!

Okay, lemme set you straight on this retarded shit.
The Bradley is a TERRIBLE APC, yes. But it's NOT an APC. It's an IFV. Completely different job.
After they put all that shit on the Brad, they stepped back and looked at it, and realized "Wait a minute. We just built an American counterpart to the BMP." And they changed doctrine on it's use to take advantage of what it can do. An APC moves in, drops people off, and leaves. That's not what an IFV does. An IFV moves with the grunts, and puts a heapin' helpin' of hate on whatever they need it to.
Stop looking at an IFV as an APC, they're completely different machines.
The poor armor? Fixed, they strapped more to the outside. The portholes? Yeah, they were dumb, but it's not like they actually hurt the final product.

ORIGINALLY it was conceived as a Mass-pro fighter to flood the skies with alongside squadrons of hunter-killer F-22s.

With this war, I'd imagine they actually will keep the F-35 as it was originally intended. Since the allies of the US and NATO will want a cheap up-to-date fighter after all this.

“Fine. Switch channels to blue. I don't feel like chatting in the open.” She responds, almost sounding like she's trying not to laugh.

You grunt in response as Merlin switches your radios over to the frequency- where you can hear the twins laughing.

“So, Frank, You made a new friend!” Alyssa crows.

“A very special friend!” Her sister adds.

“She's pretttty cuuuute, I don't know if I'd turn her down!” Alyssa continues.

“Well, cute for a psycho.” Clarissa says, still laughing.

“What, psychos can't be as cute as normal people?”

“We're the exception to the rule.”

“We're not cute, we're sexy. There's a difference.”

“No, you're cute. I'm sexy.”

“Ladies, please. Leave it on the ground.” Ice says, cutting off their conversation. “Frank, you ok? Did she actually land any hits?”

“No, we're good.” you say, looking for your six witches and finding them in a holding pattern over the imperial palace grounds. “Though I think I need an adult.”

Several of the witches laugh at that.

“They never sourced those missiles Katya and Rosalie got earlier, but the IJNAF and IJAF are starting to shift some fighters to take over from us here. How're you fixed for fuel?”

You look down and wince, tapping your MFD screen, as if that would somehow cause it to fill back up. Several minutes of combat, at nearly full blowers has burnt through your tanks rapidly.

“I'm way low on gas. Maybe ten minutes at this anchor, then I gotta turn for the Sara if I wanna land there.”

Ice nods as you slide into formation behind the witches.

“That's plenty. Reinforcements are only a few minutes out, we'll recover aboard. Air defense radars took a hit, though, so we've been kind of blind. Mind spotting?”

“No problem. Merlin? If you would, please.” You respond, watching your MFD flip back over to a sensor picture.

You stare at it dumbly, then slowly open up your radio.

“Hey boss. Lotsa inbound from the west.”

“What?” Ice asks, alarm in her voice. “Shoot me a picture.”

Merlin obliges, and you see the alphanumerics scrawling across the screen. It's a mixed bag of strategic transports, bombers, fighters, and a second group of helicopters trailing behind it.

“Where the hell did all those come from?!” Ice asks.

Katsumi speaks up next. “Merlin, can you send us the data as well?” She looks down at her wrist mounted MFD and shakes her head. “We knew they were doing something with all those old tankers they were buying up, but this?”

“How long, Merlin?” You ask over the intercom, turning your fighter nose on to the incoming bogies.

“maybe... fifteen minutes?” Merlin says, her voice unsure. “Frank, we don't have the fuel for this!”

[X] “Call for a tanker. If we can't get one, we'll land at Iruma and fuel there, that'll take less than fifteen.”

We need speed for what's coming. Also I'm game to keep going.
>>
>>23408124

>[] “Call for a tanker. IF NOT, GO AHEAD, ANYWAYS

NEED NOT ASK.

FULL SPEED AHEAD.
>>
[] “I know, Merlin. We’ll land where we can.”

Fuck yes on continuing.

Also calling in a tanker would just put its crew at risk for no good reason.

And continuing would be great, Ghost.

Feed her lots of nice aerofuel. She needs to be strong and healthy.

This

Call for a tanker.

If we can't, we follow our girls in.

NOT LANDING

Question, why are we calling a tanker (which will take longer and put its crew at risk) instead of just popping down for a fuel up? It's not like they're going to grab any super-secret information off of us in the scant minute we'll be there.
>>
>>23408124
[x] “Call for a tanker. If we can't get one, we'll land at Iruma and fuel there, that'll take less than fifteen.”

And, yes, continuing would be wonderful what with sleep being for the weak and all that.
>>
>>23408124
If there are already tankers in the air, call for one. If not, land and refuel.
>>
>>23408202
It seems to me that the other option was to get out of the fight entirely, so calling for a refuel means we stay in the air to fight.
>>
>>23408202

To reduce turn-about.

We need fuel before we can fight

We ain't out of this fight yet!

I would love to continue if you have it in you. Also, when you are done, please give us the details of your injury. Perhaps someone can get you a hook-up.

and yes, full speed ahead

Ah fair enough, looks like I misread the options.

Consider my vote changed, they're going to need every plane they've got.
>>
>>23408215

I thought it was more 'we'll fight till the last drop and emergency land whereever';
>>
Anyways, I archived the thread since its close to falling off the board.

Zees is appropriate and sensible.

The guy who started 91 did a ton of work.

This has been bothering me for a while, but how the hell do the maneuver? Are there pedals on the feet, or is it a full leg device?

They do.

Just not full sized ones.

Ghost has written about Ice slinging small sized AIM-9s in the Top Gun arc.

Shit, I forgot about that.

>>23408448
Mostly magic, legs don't really enter the striker it self but a legs dimension.
>>
>>23408557

So if the magic fails, no more leg.
>>
>>23408571

PTSD Fronk.
>>
>>23408571
No, the striker just gets ejected in that case. Leg stays fine.
>>
>>23408581
That shit must be horrible. Imagine hitting a newly made amputee at the speeds that the jet goes.
>>
>>23408585

I'm recalling the time when Katya shot off the striker off that witch...
>>
>>23408624
Bullets went through the bit that has leg in it (bit at the top, half a foot maybe?) and hit the leg.
>>
>>23408610
You know, if you're hitting someone at the speeds that a jet goes, and the witch's shield is down, I don't think that they're really going to be that concerned with the state of their limbs as they'll be so very dead it isn't funny.
>>
>>23408624
That poor witch...

Hopefully she was picked up by a some very understanding crab fishermen...

Here's more evidence of the leg magic. The tank witches show it off the most, this is from the Afrika doushinji which is made by a guy who worked on the series.
