The Empire needs no other name, as it stands alone as the super-power of the continent. The entire world, if you listen to the Press and Propaganda Corps. Ever expanding, by the will of the Emperor, Titus Mechanus IV, The Empire's economy largely revolves around the Imperial Legions, the greatest military force imagineable. Ten Legions, each with over ten thousand men, armed with bronze spears and shields, and trained to fight in an unstoppable formation.

However, the true elites, the true heroes, are the Demi Pilots, men and women like you, young one. The Demi are gifts from the gods themselves, sculpted from their flesh, their veins flowing with their ichor, and their chests roaring with their breath. None shorter than fifteen feet tall, the Demi are shaped in the form of man, most often with heavy armor plating covering holy forms.

No man or woman, even the Pilots, may see the inner workings of the Demi. Only the slave race of the Empire's humans, the Engineers, are allowed to see within and work mechanical and medical repairs and modifications to their sacred forms. Engineers appear mostly human, though all are mute, with pale skin and hair, and eyes the colors of precious gems.

Ok, the system is a basic dice pool one. For each point you have in the relivant stat, you roll 1d100. Rolls will only be accepted if linked to the post asking for them. 60+ is a success, more successes means you do better. A 100 is two successes, a 1 is minus one success. Traits and abilities alter the number of dice based on certain circumstances. I usually wait between fifteen and twenty minutes before I start each post, so I can get everyone's opinion and we can get some consensus.

Now, let's build our character. Out of Mind, Body, and Soul, you have three points to spread amongst them. Out of Ranged and Melee you only have one point to put into either Ranged or Melee. We'll get into more detail and build our Demi after we get the basics done.
>>
>>23874491
Soul + 2, Mind + 1. Melee + 1
>>
>>23874491
Mind +1, Body +1, Soul +1, Ranged +1

>>23874614
>>23874619
Ok, two out of three say Ranged, but we can't seem to decide on what the stat spread should be. Let's give it another ten minutes or so, and if we can't get consensus, we'll just go to the dice with a d3.
>>
>>23874491
Let's just dump it all into mind since initial stats are harder to get than later boxes
>>
Mind + 2, Soul + 1, Ranged.

I'll take it. Now for our Demi. The Demi is a powerful machine, but at it's core, it must work off of what the Pilot has to give. We have 6 points to spread between Body, Melee, and Ranged. None raised by more than three, please.
>>
>>23874875
+2 to each
>>
>>23874875
Body 2, Melee 1, Ranged 3.
Let's make a sniper of some sorts.
>>
>>23874875
Put +3 into range to get it to max instantly.

2 body 1 mellee
>>
>>23874929
Five is max for a human, but a Demi can rise well beyond that. So even if you dump three into Ranged, you will still have room to grow.

>>

>>
>>23874985
And by ship i of course mean demi
>>
>>23874996
no i misunderstood
go ranged 3 body 3 instead
>>
It would have been nice if you said what each stat does.
>>
>>23874875
Body + 3

Melee+ 3

If we cannot smash it, no one can.
>>
>>23875038
Body: Physical strength/toughness
Mind: Intelligence/Mental strength
Soul: charisma/social skills

Melee and Ranged are pretty self-explanatory.
>>
>>23875038
Sorry, I should do that. BODY is your physical fitness, strength, endurance, and health, all that good stuff. MIND is your intelligence, both your ability to learn and what you have learned already. SOUL is your presence and willpower, your inner fire, and your social ability. RANGED is your ability with a firearm or bow, and MELEE is your ability with both hand to hand combat and melee weapons.
>>
It seems the strongest showing is for Ranged 3, Body 2, Melee 1. I can see a couple of other votes though, so I'll give it another ten minutes.

Ok, looks like this is it then. Now, we move to traits. You may chose TWO.

Sniper: You may take time to set up a shot and gain +1 to Ranged, but you are vulnerable during this time unless you are well hidden.

Crowd Control: Your main weapon is a light, rapid fire gun that can handle infantry very well, earning you +1 to Ranged tests against swarms. However, it comes at the price of stopping power and penetration, meaning a penalty against individual targets your size.

Heavy Armor: Your Demi was constructed with much heavier armor than usual, giving you greater durability at the cost of speed and mobility.

Agile: The opposite of Heavy Armor, you are lightly plated, making you vulnerable to hits, but your Body counts as +1 when making tests requiring agility and mobility.

Built-In Weapons: Your weapons are built into your frame, meaning you cannot be disarmed unless your arms are completely removed.

If someone gets up close and personal this is a good way to stay able to fight.
>>
>>23875389
You know what does mesh with the sniper negative? Heavy armor.

We should get that
>>
>>23875410
A sniper that isn't mobile is a dead sniper. Both to set up shots, and run when the shooting location is found.
>>
>>23875299
Build-In weapons and Crowd Control seems nice.
>>
>>23875389
I assumed it would let us switch between them but the combo of laying hurt on a swarm from a mile away is fun to.
I no multi mode i change my vote to Built-In Weapons because Heavy Armor makes bug-outs hard and light makes us vulnerable to sniper duels.
>>
>>23875410

I agree on some level, but I prefer to not be disarmed. Our weapon is our life as a ranged specialist.
>>

Well come to think of it this pretty well set everything has its cons and pros
Sniper can take out the fuckhuge enemies without even giving him chance. But if we are supporting infantry against other infantry we are fucked
CC can mow down any swarms of infantry but if the have something to removes such things as us (like snipers) we are fucked
Heavy armor would get cover for the possible infantry but the reduced mobility and little arsenal would fuck us over
Agile would erase the problem with movement but if I get it right we are still huge and quite easy to hit by infantry and if somebody gets lucky well you guessed it. We are fucked
Built-in weapons has the only advantage of not being able to be disarmed. But thats useless because our weapons and armor will be probably average if not worse.
>>
>>23875595
>>23875570
There is, and it works like Crowd Control, except it has bonuses regarding dudes in cover.

Alright, so I am on my phone, taking dog to vet, but I can still go. I am seeing everyone likes Sniper but we are having a problem with choice two.

Three for Agile, Six for Built-In Weapons, Two for Crowd Control... Two I think for Heavy Armor.

So, Sniper and Built-In Weapons?

Ace Hanger, a week ago you were in the academy, an enormous complex where you lived, learned, and trained. It was your life for over ten years, but now you have been carted out to one of the base camps back from the front line. Today you will be assigned to your personal Demi and then tomorrow assigned to a Legion. Well, assuming you pass the mysterious first test you've heard rumors about.

You have been dropped off at the front gate of the camp, your instructions are nothing more than to report to the commander for further orders. Your inventory includes three every day uniforms (one of which you are wearing), one dress uniform, one pilot's signet ring, and several books on various subjects, mostly your old school books.

So what do you do? You were told to report to the commander, but are pretty sure you could be forgiven for looking around and getting a feel of the place.

You decide to go and report immediately. You'll have plenty of time to look around afterwards. It's a short walk to the complex's central building. A small one, but built sturdy, you head on in. Inside is a desk well overburdened with paperwork, with a shifting mass behind it. You... Think it's a person, but are not sure until a young looking woman with white skin and hair, and ever so slightly glowing blue eyes stands up on the desk, looking over the stacks. She waves calmly.

How do you greet her? And yes, this is one of the things to help set your personality.

"That is... an interesting greeting, sir." You salute. "Ace Hanger, reporting for duty." Professional, proud, calm, collected. Textbook. She nods and hops down back behind the desk, dissapearing. She comes around the side and motions for you to follow her back behind it. You can hear a door open back there.

You head around The Desk. You're not sure why, you you feel it deserves capital letters, even in your mind. Behind is a large door, leading into a much larger, nicer, and more orderly office. Filing cabinets line both walls, with several medals placed on the walls in frames. A large desk made of polished black wood dominates the back half of the room, small, orderly stacks of paperwork and an open folder grace it. Behind it, a tall, bulky woman in a black officer's uniform. The young, pale girl is standing to the side.

"Ace Hanger. High scores in ranged combat, specialized in sniper actions. Excellent in academic studies. You fell short in close quarters combat but your scores in macro scale ranged combat and sniping more than made up for it. What do you expect from service, pilot?"

"Oh Three Seven, my Engineer, has been trying to make sense of the paperwork left in the office the Academy gave us here." She motions to the building. "Managed to work through the main office, but there's only so much that can be done." She muses.

"Now, come, we'll head to the Temple Hangar so you can meet your assigned Engineer and your Demi. From there we'll head out to the training ground for the test. You simply nod. "Yes, sir." You say, following her in. The building is enormous, perhaps a hundred and fifty yards in diameter? The walls are lined with scaffolding, with perhaps a half dozen humanoid shapes hanging in them. One stands out, well over twenty five feet tall, with sculpted gold legs, torso, head, forearms, and hands, with the upper arms bulging muscles of polished black cord. Script covers the armor, raising prayer to the heavens no matter where you look on it's surface. A huge warhammer rests in a cradle to one side, a longsword in the other. "Titan, my Demi. A Command Model, upgraded from the machine I started out in. Maybe yours will look like that some day." Zagurat muses. "Speaking of." She motions to to the Demi you both have stopped infront of.

"This one is yours." The Demi stands roughly seventeen feet tall, with copper armor covering it's body, head and limbs. It's lower legs are proportionately large, with smooth curved armor. It's forearms are large, the tops raised, with short, fat barrels sticking out the front, over the fists. Attached to the back, between the shoulders on an articulared mount, is a long and heavy rifle. It's face is graced by one green orb in the middle.

A young, white haired, white skinned man with onyx eyes steps foreward. Robed in black and red robes, he salutes. "This is Oh Nine Eight, he's been assigned to serve as your personal Engineer. His duties are the repair of your machine, and to help run active radar and the specialized systems used for sniping." Zigurat explains. Oh Nine Eight bows at the hip. "Your Demi is equipped for mid to long range combat, the weapons on the forearms are flechette shotguns, and the rifle on the back is a long range, heavy penetration rifle. It's all ready. Just needs a name."

>What do?

>>23878188

We grin, subtly. We speak to the machine itself, a far off look in our eyes.

"Imperator. You shall be Imperator."

"Imperator. You shall be Imperator." You say, a small grin growing on your face as you look into the grand war-machine's single eye. It feels right, it clicks into place. The grand machine looks and feels like it was built just for you, with your specializations in mind.

"If you manage not to wash out, we'll have that engraved on it. Go on, climb in. I shall go and ready the others. Get a feel for it, you and the others will have a short time to get a feel for things and run your Demi through their paces before the test." She explains, and departs to one of the other Demi.

Oh Nine Eight motions to the machine, then reaches up and unlocks the cockpit, the chest of the Demi openning up. Inside is two seats, one behind the other, their backs together, and several screens and a great deal of various controls in the back. On the arms of the front chair is several controls and two joysticks.

Anything you want to do? Check over the outside, talk to Oh Nine Eight, just climb on in? Choice is all yours.

You have the urge to go and investigate the other pilots, but having spent your short lifetime training for the moment, you can't really work up the will to. Oh Nine Eight helps you climb in, and puts a copper headband on you, before climbing into the seat in the back. The chest closes and it is dark for a moment, before the whole cockpit lights up with screens. Views of the outside, sensors, gauges and meters, everything a pilot needs. You can FEEL your connection to the Demi.

You inhale slowely, and exhale slowely. The pumping of the ichor through the Demi matches yours, the growl of it's breath matches yours, and it feels as if it was an extension of yourself. Yesss. This is what you spent your life waiting for. Spent your life training for. Black letters slide across the screen 'Synchronization Complete, Connection Confirmed'. They fall off the screen to be replaced by a small black arrow at the bottom, directing you for move foreward.

You step down off the rack holding your Demi, slowely flexing and releasing the muscles under your Demi's armor, closing your fingers into fists and cracking the knuckles. You check the screens and note the little symbols indicating your weapons have small red slashes through them, showing they're locked. Probably not allowed to be active in the hangar. The arrow is pointing out the hangar door now.

What do? Follow? Want to do anything before hand? Anything to say?

Why not atleast get to know each other beforehand?" You say, moving through the doors. The arrow turns toward a large field with a number of training targets. Beyond it is a huge hill, presumably to stop bullets that miss or go through the targets.

"Hah! I like the way you think. I'm Salaya Vortez. Close combat specialist. It's a pleasure to meet you!" A young woman's voice comes.

"Rallan Twist. We're not going to have to fight, are we? I'm not a fighter." A young man's voice stresses the 'not' part.

"Danny Melon. Probably not, atleast, not if it was like my brother's test. He told me he just had to go through an obstacle course." A young woman speaks.

You have several choices for target. A mock-up of a very simple Demi, a giant wolf, a large man with with blade like arms, and a creature that looks like a bundle of tentacles with an eye inside it. Which one do you want to send out onto the field to do some target practice on? They're all made out of wood, and on rails that move them aroudn the field.

You decide to impress the others by sending out the tentacle beast. You bring up your rifle, the mount twisting around and aiming the weapon over your right shoulder. You settle down on one knee, the screens focusing carefully and lining up your shot as the target darts around the field on it's rails. The weapon hisses quietly as a round slides into place from the ammo-bin on the side and the safeties come off.

Let's see. 5 for Ranged, +1 for Sniper, +1 for 098's calculations showing up on screen to assist, -2 for aiming for the eye of the moving target.

Your weapon cracks as you pull the trigger. Not a half second later half of the eye is blown off. You were off by a little, but you hit, and that's what matters. You settle in and take a few more shots, demolishing the quickly shrinking target as your take pieces off of it. You are soon joined by a short, thin looking Demi with thin iron armor. It has, in it's hands, a rifle with a spinning barrel. The weapon fires rapidly at it's target, the mock-Demi, slowely ripping into it's chest armor. You take a moment to look around, eyeing your competitions.

One Demi is tall and thin, with copper armor, and blades mounted on it's shins, forearms, feet, and fists, doing slow martial arts movements. The blades seem razor sharp, and even seem to make a quiet keening sound as they cut through the air. The last war-machine is a heavy-weight, copper armored Demi, with heavy forearms and stubby legs. It has a well over-sized back, with what looks like various compartments and several antenna poking out the top.

What do you wish to do while you wait?

Cya! Hope you had fun.
>>
>>23879994
Ask the others why they fight.
>>
>>23879994
lets just skip to the test op, this is taking too long
>>
I agree with >>23880059
I get ripping the dice system and stat sheets from bfq, but you don't need to do the same "roll for thrust velocity" grinding slowness.
>>
>>23879994
See if we can track each Demi by it's radio chatter, or any other transmission. It may give us an edge later.

(Fair enough.)
You spend your time taking shots and practicing. You get a good feel for your Demi, going through the motions and figuring out a general understanding of your abilities and limits. Eventually you and the others are rallied and brought out of the camp by the giant form of Commander Zagurat's Command Demi, and taken to what looks like a very large pit. Roughly twenty feet deep, the pit houses what looks to be a decently sized village, complete with homes, some small shops, a large church, and a large house presumably for a mayor.

"This is the arena where your test will be taking place. Let me see here, I have the random drawing here... Oh Three Seven, where- ah, thank you. Ahem..."

The arena is a mock-up of a village?
>>

"Hanger, Twist. You're Blue team. Vortez, Melon. You're Red team. The test is simple, survive and eliminate your opponents. Use all your skills and equipment to the best of your ability, and be aware that loss does not mean failure. The goal is to impress me. Prove you deserve a place in the Legions."

You are directed to the far end of the village, and dropped down into the pit. The buildings are, for the most part, tall enough to hide you if you duck down. You are in radio contact with your partner, Twist, and the Commander, Zagurat.

What do? You can handle this any way you please, really.
>>
>>23880414
Looks like it, yes.
>>
>>23880433
Oh, I should make note. Twist is in the Demi that had the stubby legs, big arms, and huge back. He is also the one who was whining that he hoped he did not have to fight.
>>
>>23880433
What are Twists capabilities.

Also, our enemy is Red team, right?
>>
>>23880433
Twist should scout the area ahead while we cover him from a higher elevation.
>>
>>23880467
so the guy with massive radio?
What weapons does he have?
>>
>>23880467
Damn, I was hoping for anyone but him.
What can the bugger do?
>>
>>23880433
Crap, we pretty much got the worst possible partner for our abilities, didn't we...
>>
>>23880478
>>23880488
Asking him quickly, you discover that Twist is a support specialist. He has an oversized radar, a long-range radio, smoke bombs, radar jamming, and while he is slow, he has good armor and can hit pretty damn hard with those huge fists.
>>
>>23880530
>Sniper and support specialists vs Melee and Medium Ranged fire specialists.

Guess we'd best lube up our assholes for the impending rape we are about to suffer.
>>
>>23880568
my exact thoughts
At least we will see them coming.
>>
>>23880530
What does our terrain look like?
Are we near the church?
Can we fit in the steeple?
Points of high ground nearby?
I say we set up somewhere with a good vantage point and have Twist guard our back while alerting us to anyone nearby with the radar. Then we wait to see heads pop up and shoot them.
>>
>>23880584
The terrain is mostly flat. The church is near the middle of town. No real high spots other than roofs, you're not sure if they will hold you, but it is possible.
>>
>>23880518
he can spot
>>
>>23880638
Flat terrain? buildings that can't hold our weight?

Good god, I'm beginning to think Zigarut wants us to get fucked.
>>
So can we get a plan?
>>
>>23880568
>>23880580
The medium-range one is the one scared to fight. We can block their eyes and ears, and have a tank for the CC specialist. First step, jam them, use that to smoke out the CC fighter.

>Twist is in the Demi that had the stubby legs, big arms, and huge back. He is also the one who was whining that he hoped he did not have to fight.
>>
>>23880695
Twist is the one who is afraid to fight. Medium-Range is Melon, who's brother is apparently a Pilot who has already passed their test. Vortez is the bladed melee specialist.
>>
>>23880733
This should be linking to >>23880708
Sorry about that.
>>
we too, have medium and short range capabilities. The shotguns built in our arms, remember?
>>
>>23880767
Maybe so, but that's more of a last resort, we're certainly not built to go toe to toe with either of the enemy demis, our body score is pretty puny by demi standards.
>>
>>23880733
We need to hit Melon first she is the bigest threat. Twist can pin down Vortez then we take out Melon then clean up Vortez.
We are there big threat they want us down then to death of a thousand cuts Twist.
tell twist our plan and assessment on a secure channel.
>>
>>23880801
we'll throw Twist at them
>>
>>23880823
I get the feeling Vortez is quite an agile combatant, she can most likely run rings around Twist, he has to be able to hit her to pin her down.

First thing we need to do is find a vantage point from which we can use our rifle to herd them into Twist, so he gets the chance to ambush.

It's a risk with the flimsy buildings, but we should try to find one that looks more sturdy than the rest.

This is a pretty horrible situation for our team-up to work in, but we'll have to make the best of it.
>>
>>23880873
While doing this, have Twist make use of his support capabilities to keep us posted on enemy movements and scan their radars in turn.
>>
>>23880890
>scan their radars
I meant jam
>>
Okay, okay, everybody, I have a plan!

We use Twist as bait.

Seriously. We pick an obvious line of fire for Twist to stand around in, and hunker down nearby. If Vortez rushes him in an attempt to go snicker-snack on him, we gun her down. If the other one takes out Twist from long range, we've positioned him and ourselves so that he'll almost certainly give his position away with the muzzle flash, and take him out. This plan at least allows Twist to be useful.
>>
>>23880873
>>23880890
So is this the plan?
>>
>>23880944
Sure, unless Twist has any useful suggestions.
>>
>>23880944
How powerful is our sniper?
Could it shoot through a couple of the buildings?
>>
>>23880824
Keep twist on jamming + radar. Turn off jamming every once in a while to fuck with them, then turn it back on if we start talking.
>>
>>23880983
Of course. Fair warning, you're supposed to NOT kill the other team. So we are avoiding body shots by default.
>>
>>23881007
They start talking.
>>
>>23881027
Bringing a building down on them won't kill them right?
>>
You hand out your orders and Twist lights up his jammers. "Alright. One is heading this way straight through the village, the other is coming around, looks like she's trying to flank us." He explains, as you try to climb up onto a building to use as a vantage point. You settle down, arming your rifle and making ready. He starts feeding you coordinates. Do you wish to fire on the one coming at you or the one flanking you?
>>
>>23881126
The one flanking us, we will take it by surprise.
>>
>>23881126
Firstly, tell him to change position and jam their radars, so the one coming straight for us will be searching blind, then target the flanker.
>>
>>23881126
Try to see who is flanking and who is charging.
Then I think we should move away from both of them to mess with 'em.
