"I've... I've never been to a party before..." Yukari says, obvious yellow residue around her mouth. "Nobody ever..." She hugs you again. "Thank you so much!"

You are the commander of the M26E1 Pershing Heavy Tank, and if you didn't know better, you'd the Panzer IV's gunner, Yukari Akiyama, was drunk or something. Looking over her shoulder you see Hana giving you an apologetic look. "Yukari! Yukari-" She calls, rushing over.

"Sugar rush?" You guess, adjusting your shoulder slightly to give yourself some breathing room, literally.

"I-I've never seen someone eat so much ice cream that quickly..." Hana says quietly- Yukari is oblivious to the conversation, but as suddenly as it started, Yukari pulls away and moves off towards Miho and the Freshman.

That was strange.

>We need to watch Yukari and make sure she doesn't get into any trouble.
>Hana seems to have this in hand, though maybe we should get some ice cream ourselves?

Looking around for someone, anyone else who could do the job, you resign yourself to follow Yukari back over towards the Freshmen and Miho. She's already tottered over to them, barely able to walk straight with all the sugary, sweet potato-ey goodness streaming through her system. "Hey!" She says with a completely unnecessary wave. "You guys did great today! Everyone gets scared, it's ok!"

Seven pairs of eyes look at her, then past her to you. You shrug, mouthing the words "Too much sugar."

Miho immediately darts forward. "They did! They did a great job, Yukari, and so did you!" She says with a great, wide smile. "Here, have a seat over here we were just talking about their Lee!"

You pull a chair away from a nearby table and sit. "The Lee! Such a noble tank- the first great American tank if you ask me, loads better than the old M3s- that 75mm was one of the best guns in the world when it was introduced. The only thing Rommel had that could match it was the Panzer IV..." Yukari casually pulls a nearly full bowl of ice cream away from one of the stunned Freshmen and starts to take bites between sentences.

It was also called the 105 mm Gun Motor Carriage T95.

In fact, in 1945, that became it's OFFICIAL name.

That and the T28 is also a Russian medium tank, and we do NOT want Blackjack confusing that for the American Beast
>>
>>25518912
It was never called the T95, and WoT made up a fake T28 to justify their shittyness

Also, it was one of the worst designed armored vehicles ever made, there is a reason they left the prototype in a fucking forest and promptly forgot about it for 60 years
>>
>>25518988
there was a project being drawn up called that, and the T28 was merged into that project, and they kept the T28 name for it

there was also 3-4 attemps at a medium tank also called the "105 mm Gun Motor Carriage T95", mainly the 2 variants that had autoloaded 105mm guns

Again, it was officially called the 105 mm Gun Motor Carriage T95 in 1945 (yes, it was renamed the T28 Super Heavy Tank in 1946)

And again, we don't want it being confused by Blackjack for the Soviet T28.

And it'd still be better than the Porsche Tiger, which had plenty of problems on it's own, had a worse gun, and worse frontal armor.

>>
>>25519499

The Chaffees are still better than the Pz 38(t) and the I-Go....and arguably better than the M3 Lee.

Replace those three with Chaffees, and use them to scout for the PzIV, StuG, Blackjack, and eventually the Porsche Tiger (unless Blackjack decides to give us something better....like a Panther II) and the B1

Their guns are still able to take on most of the other tanks (Kuromoromine will still be a problem, but the 75mm will fuck up some Shermans and T-34s), so they're not completely useless.
>>
>>25519499
We already have some decent largish tanks in the Panzer IV, Super Pershing, and the hopefully soon to be found Tiger P, but all of our fast scout tanks really suck. A Chaffee or even a Stuart would be a nice upgrade to our scouting capability.

... The T-10 was in production in 1945? Everything I can find says it wasn't even developed until 1952. What's your source on this?
>>
>>25519611
The only problem with the Lee in WoT is that it's over-tiered. It sucks compared to other Tier IVs, but that's because, considering the time period it was actually used during and the tanks it went up against, it should NOT be Tier IV at all. It should be Tier III.
>>
>>25519611
I had to go back through that thing to get the Sherman because I went for the T1 Heavy first.

Having the 90mm and an engine upgrade waiting when I got to the T29 was nice though, especially after seeing a few people who still had the 76mm when they got one...that tank just looks sad with such a tiny gun.
>>
>>25519638

Speaking of which......my AT 2 gives me so many mixed emotions.

I can barely get 20kph with the upgraded engine going downhill.

But EVERYTHING bounces off my front hull and a lot bounces off my side.

And the QF 6 pounder with the ROF upgrade is almost like an auto-cannon.
>>
>>25519586

But seriously, while it's true that the Polish soldiered fought hardcore at Wizna, it doesn't change the fact that the Poles ended up completely screwed with occupation and later as a Soviet puppet regime while the Finnish, while they had to cede the Karelian Isthmus, were so badass to the point that they stopped a Power despite being a minor country themselves and retained their independence.
>>
>>25519728

They were/are still called king tigers since the end of the war (by the allies anyways). I am well aware what it's original name is. And peiper requested panthers because they were more maneuverable and faster. He needed speed in order to reach allied supply lines. Tiger II's breaking down is just another problem.

As far as i know panther II would have had a different transmission system. I just say that I would prefer a panther II over a tiger II. But i am okay with a panther eitherway. Wish germany built more of them instead of king tigers.

You've seen this before, actually with Patrick when he'd downed three energy drinks in rapid succession- There was a quick burst of energy and then a crash. And someone needed to get Yukari home before she was asleep under one of the tables. Evidently Miho has come to the same conclusion first-

"Can you bring her home?" She asks plaintively. "It's not far- I'd do it but Mako's already fallen asleep; low blood sugar." She says.

You look over at Yukari as she excitedly gives the Freshmen girls a detailed rundown of the Lee's converted aircraft engine. "Sure. Where does she live?"

Miho gives you pretty good directions- it's actually not far at all. Her parents own a barbarshop nearby and their apartment is just above it. Just a matter of luring her away from the poor Freshmen...

The Russians can't in military organization, not at that time anyway.

They had officers and secret police arguing over how to proceed while the Finns were killing their dudes, they took the gambit to cross a frozen lake in range of coastal batteries(with predictable results), and they waltzed in expecting all of Finland to welcome them as their glorious saviors from the evils of capitalism(because Stalin surrounded himself with yes men).

I admit, there is something inherently badass about prying a tank's treads off with a log while it's moving and then torching the engine.

To be fair to Roosevelt, we don't KNOW how long the Depression would have lasted otherwise, we can only guess.
HOWEVER, the New Deal did include numerous elements that fucked up. Things like the National Recovery Administration.
Basically, it wasn't a horrible monster, but it wasn't some angelic cure-all either.

And more importantly, FDR was STILL a fucking douchebag for pulling that "cut up europe like a birthday cake" shit at Yalta, and ESPECIALLY for selling out Poland, who the US had already promised support to.

Government aid does nothing. The entire economy was already dead. There was no chance of a death spiral. His "New Deal" merely suppressed any chance of the economy's recovery.

"Hey, Yukari!" You say, tapping her shoulder. "I need a bit of fresh air, I don't know the area that well yet, don't want to get lost or anything..." You try to say non-chalantly. She looks at you, and then back to the Freshman girls, who nod emphatically in agreement with you.

Yukari nods. "Sure! I'll go with you." She grins at you. "I live around here, you know!"

"Great!" You say and and she follows you out the door. As you leave you notice Miho and Hana struggling to extricate the sleeping Mako from a booth. "That girl can sleep..." You note to yourself.

"Yeah... She's always really sleepy!" Yukari says informatively. "She's always late for school- but she's got a medical condition so it usually gets excused." You remember your encounter with her on the first day of school- she probably just needs to eat breakfast once in a while.

As you walk out into the crisp dusk, you realise that this is going to get uncomfortable real fast unless you figure out something to talk about.

While "states' rights" is certainly an obfuscating term, it isn't an entirely inappropriate one. Overall, it was over one particular states' right: the right to have slavery. Now, there was serious economic reason to keep slaves. There was a hilarious amount of wealth tied up both in the slaves themselves and the economic niche they often filled. Ergo, taking it away, as Southerners feared would be a grave financial blow. With tensions and tempers flying, especially as abolitionists grew more violent, the South seriously feared that Lincoln's election would bring financial ruin to them. This was in part due to the demise of the 3/5ths compromise as the population of the North greatly increased (especially from immigrants), meaning that they would be outnumbered in the House and only able to force a draw in the Senate if the US was half-slave, half-free. The issue of the Senate is worth its own post, if you want me to educate you on history, Mr. Lolbertarian. If all you learned about the orthodox causes of the Civil War was "lol states' rights," I gravely pity the quality of education you received.
>>
>>25520855

>>
>>25520855
If you think the war was started over slaves, then I pity your even more.

The reason the South started separating was because the North started implementing protective tarrifs to keep the South from trading all their cotton to Europe instead of buying the more expensive products from the Northern factories. People started going bankrupt, and people started to get REALLY pissed because of that.

Slavery wasn't even an issue until the Emancipation Proclamation, which was itself not set forth until the European powers were looking at getting directly involved, and even that had more loopholes than the current tax code.
>>
"So, Yukari..." You start, trying to open up the silence. "How long have you liked tanks?"

She looks over at you, a bit startled before thinking for a moment. "As long as I can remember- My dad took me to the Senshado championship when I was three or four." She smiles a bit. "He bought me a toy tank there; a Polish 7TP- the twin-machine gun version? It's still my favorite..." She seems to be calming down a bit, which meant you probably didn't have long before the crash. She looks up at you. "When did you get into tanks?"

You look up at the sky. "Well, I guess Black Jack's been there my entire life- my grandfather's had him since after the Korean War. It was always there, just sitting there in the barn- I used to play in it when my parents would bring me out to my grandfather's farm." You smile sadly. "When I went to live with him, Black Jack became really important to me." You look over at Yukari, "I don't think I ever liked tanks like you- everything I know is in relation to Black Jack."

You'd always had your imagination when you'd play around in Black Jack's turret as a kid, but even then the first time you'd gone into battle with him it had been completely different that how you thought it would be- noisy, smelly, hot- Your first battle had been outside of Stockton on a cloudless May day- it was 96 degrees outside but probably closer to 110 inside the turret, and you'd had five bodies packed into it.

Yukari sighs. "It's different- I'd never imagined how loud it would be, even when the engine is just idling you can barely hear anything that isn't yelled. But, it's good. It's better than that- great!" She smiles. "And for the first time I have real friends- not just people on the internet the owner of the Panzerkraft, friends that I can hang out with; that invite me to ice cream parties!" She looks like she's about ready to hug you again, but she holds back. "It's all because of you and Nishizumi-sama. I'd never have had the courage to do this without you two..." She yawns loudly, stopping at a bench on the outside of a big, grassy park. "What time is it?" She askes. "I just need to sit for a second.

You're still blocks away and she's crashing...

>"C'mon, Yukari, you can show me your house and rest there!"
>"Alright, but just for a minute..."
>"I needed a walk! We could've sat around at the ice cream shop!"

It often varied as to which side it was a meat grinder for though. The Union took horrible loses at several battles following Gettysburg because they didn't quite understand that throwing masses of men against a well entrenched position isn't a very bright idea.

Yes, every battle was a meat grinder, but at least some of them served a purpose. Antietam gave the EP some legitimacy, Gettysburg stopped Lee's advance into Pennsylvania. The Wilderness? Not really anything. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I really doubt it did much more than destroy unnecessary amounts of property and cause massive food shortages in Georgia. By the time of Sherman's march, the Anaconda Plan had absolutely crippled the South's ability to either export cotton or import enough munitions to carry on the war. Union Ironclads carried the North to victory as much as did Grant or Sherman.
>>
>>25522186

Well, the Lee can still be used as an impromptu TD, the Freshies just need to learn to ambush properly.

The priority is getting that I-Go replaced with a proper scout tank.

Ideally, this would be the best:

Pz 38(t) ---> M24 Chaffee
I-Go ---> M24 Chaffee
M3 Lee ---> Pz IV
Pz IV ---> Panther
P. Tiger ---> Tiger II
B1 bis ---> KV-1/KV-1S

That would give us a very nice force....we'll have 2 light tanks for scouting that can still do damage. We'll have a medium in the Pz IV and a TD in the StuG, the two of which can act very well in concert.

The Panther, Tiger II, KV-1, and Blackjack can be the core of the force
>>
>>25522233
I'm being more realistic by downgrading our demands from a Chaffee (4,731 produced) to a Stuart (22744 produced).
>>
>>25522110
>>25522135

We'll probably have to check with Anzu if there is sufficient budget. I highly doubt it.
Plus, the school (probably) already blew their budget on acquiring Black Jack and crew.
Even before the finals, the best they could do with their monies is convert the 38(t) into a Hetzer and put sideskirts on the Panzer IV.

But yeah, Stuart or Chaffee me gusto...
>>
>>25522233
Except that the I-Go is objectively utter shit. The only reason they weren't completely useless in the anime was because of what an anon in a previous thread explained.

>The deepest secret of the Nishizumi Style is that it is really just the weaponizng of Plot Armor. You see, the Nishizumis learned the true nature of Plot Armor. They call it the Grundstück Rüstung Field, or GR Field. And they have undertaken a eugenics program to create the ultimate Panzerkommandant. Maho was to be the mother of Die Verkürzung des Weges, but the Nishizumis made an error in their calculations. In a moment of uncharacteristic weakness, Shiho gave her husband a second daughter, when she was supposed to give him a son. And so Die Verkürzung des Weges came early. Miho Nishizumi is the prophesied one, and Oarai are to be her people. There she shall develop "Underdog Power", and use it to sweep away the forces that would use her for their own ends.
>>
>>25522300

Forgot the Chi-nu!

The Chi-nu can be replaced by a second Pz IV or a second StuG, both are good options.
>>
>>25522300
I agree with that ideally, although maybe make the Lee into an Easy 8 or a Jumbo, but I doubt we'll get what we want. I'm just saying that the stuart would be an acceptable substitute for the I-Go and possibly the Pz 38(t) if Chaffee's aren't available.
>>
>>25522303
I wouldn't mind getting a FT-17 at this point.

we barely have enough for a proper team and even with the upgrade we'l sill be using the I-go and the others since we need a full force
>>
>>25522326
sounds like you're not a fan of GuP or things not determined by raw stats (thus not a fan of the 8th MS team). If this quest was about normal things, then I think Blackjack would have chosen a different school than Oorai.

I see the Volleyball team channeling the spirit of Shiro Amada.
>>

>>
>>25522343

Replacing the I-Go with a Stuart would probably be the only thing that is within the realm of possibility.

But I didn't choose a Sherman variant to keep us from being Saunders Lite (We'd already have 2 Chaffees and a Pershing).

By being a 3 American, 5 German, 1 Soviet...we stick to the spirit of Oorai being a mongrel team, not represented by any one nation (but leaning more towards Kuromoromine with a slight majority of German tanks)
>>
>>25522375

>>
>>25522366
One: I love GuP, I'm just not in denial about the fact that the I-Go not getting it's shit pushed in was due to plot armor. You can LIKE something and still be aware of it's flaws.
>>25522475
And he beat it by using something he actually had, and being the better pilot. He didn't literally violate physics as they work in-setting to make it happen, and he didn't rely on plot armor. He made clever use of ACTUAL non-standard tactics, rather than somehow making the Ball do things it literally CANNOT do. An I-Go is physically incapable of outrunning Shermans.
>>
>>25522527
It's a good one. We should look into that possibility. Maybe we can seduce her into giving her the Comet

>>
>>25522631
That...would totally be possible. Even on modern engines, there are gains to be had by blueprinting the motor. Imagine something as crude as a WWII era japanese tank motor. I bet you could find all kinds of stuff there. Perhaps another 1000 rpm by unfucking the valvetrain, perhaps some more grunt by cleaning up the intake and exhaust. Who knows what would be possible.
>>
>>25522714
Even just better fuel would make a difference.

"You said you live around here, right?" You mention. "Why don't we just head for your house, probably a better spot to rest than a park bench..."

Yukari stares longingly at the bench before turning back to you. "I guess..." She brightens up. "Oh! I can show you my tank collection!" She says happily. "I've got a bunch! You'll love it!" She starts off at a jog. "C'mon, this way!" You catch up as she slows down to a fast walk. "My dad's a barbor, so we live right above his shop!"

A few blocks later you see the characteristic barbar pole as Yukari sprints the last few yards to the front door before ringing the intercom. "I'm home! I hope you don't mind I brought a friend over!"

The tiny speaker squaks. "Alright, just go fix your room before you bring her up there- it's a mess!"

Yukari looks at you blushing. "Heh, sorry- it'll just take a minute!"

A few moments later the door opens to reveal a taller, older version of Yukari. When she sees you she suppresses a gasp before smiling warmly. "Hello! You must be Yukari's friend!"

There's only so much you can achieve by tweaking an engine.
The I-Go's top speed was 26 KPH.
The Sherman tops out anywhere between 40 and 48 KPH, depending on the model.
They would need to achieve a 50% increase in top speed, to match a Sherman.
Theoretically possible, but it just raises the question of why the Sherman's engine hasn't been tweaked by Saunders, especially since they're rich as hell and could doubtless afford to buy blueprinted engines (an engine rebuild is not the same as blueprinting, which is done during construction) for their tanks.

Yeah, i mean Japan had pretty shit distillng tech back in the day. One of the reasons for our late war air dominance was the availability of 150 octane fuel. The best that the japanese could do was 89 octane fuel. They typically ran NA motors in their aircraft while we were running at least an atmosphere worth of boost.

I wonder how much of a gain you would see in improving the fuel in an air cooled diesel. I mean, sure it is a 14 litre motor, but NA diesel motors would be tough, especially when air cooled.
