You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to be RATHER unpleasant.

You watched the Princess argue with Sir Gregory, volunteered her to dance with you, sat through mindnumbingly boring etiquette lessons, and pretty much FORCED her to accept that you actually like being around her.

But the time for all of that has come to an end, as you're currently sitting in the kitchen with Sylvie and Nicolette, about to eat your dinner.

>Guard Rank: CAT
>Congratulations, you are now an annoying CAT!
>Not one of those fancy pedigree cats, but rather a mangy stray.
>The Princess now kind of likes you a little!
>But she still doesn't consider you to be a person.

"So, Nicolette," you say as you stuff your mouth full of noodles, "what exactly does it take to become a knight, anyways?"
"Hm?" Nicolette swallows her food and turns to you. "Nothing really specific, you just need to show the King that you have what it takes. Vincent got knighted like the second that Thierri became King, but I don't exactly have it quite as easy..."
"Huh," you reply. "Because you're working your way up from the bottom?"
"Yeah... it's honestly a pain in the ass, I'd probably be at the skill level necessary if not for all the guard bullshit that I have to put up with every day," Nicolette sighs.

"That's why I don't really get why she's bothering with the Royal Guard," Sylvie chimes in. "But she's so stubborn..."
"I'm sure that your mother's proud of you, though," you say.
"She's happy that I've made it this far, but she still thinks it's a massive waste of time," Nicolette replies, shrugging.

With that out of the way, the three of you resume devouring your food.

Let's discuss practical applications of magic instead of the current matter.
How useful would the ability to make sharp objects be in the event of a fight?
>>
>>27783048
He says that it is slightly based in reality so harems will be impossible, or hard as hell to manage and will be bound to collapse quickly.
So the best we can get is one route for love interest and the rest be friend zoned.
>>
>>27783112
So for the harem end we need to become more strong than the king, sir vincent, sir gregory, nico's mom and everyone else.

That would be fun.
>>
>>27783112
that wasn't a challenge it was a fact.

the closest harem fags can get to a harem end is by finding that dragoness and her minions.

When we had a day off and we caught the spy from Manicotti or whatever.

Gregory came in and it was painfully obvious that he was Nicolette's father. Dispite that, no one mentioned it and everyone allowed Nicolette to hide her father's identity for a dozen threads. I'm clearing it up now because I find it a fact of moderate importance.

Basically, Gregory was way too familiar and kind and fatherly towards a young girl in the guard. If he isn't her dad then he's fucking her, and I find that extraordinarily unlikely.

Yeah Sylvie mentioned Nico was royalty too, but yeah whatever. We have overwhelming evidence.

Friendly reminder...

To Do List:

Cheer up Marianne (Don't be so hard on yourself, that sort of thing, we've already established that we like her and that we're nice)
Sylvie's magic lesson (Focus on learning a few new spells, take her recommendations rather than focusing on something like a metal spell because even Nikalus said that beginner mages always make that mistake)
Go to Armory (Scrolls are there, so are masterwork swords and a bunch of sidearms and just generally useful shit that we should get before going to Manicotti)
>>
>>27783793
The irony.
>>
>>27783532

"He actually told me that you'd be a better fit for showing me the basics," you reply.
"R- really?" Sylvie stares at you, her face slowly turning red. "Um- he actually thinks that I'd do a good job at-" she stammers.
"I guess so?" you reply, shrugging. "He mentioned you taking out all of the beginner books, and told me to rely on you for that stuff because he wasn't interested in that stuff."
"Oh... oh wow..."

Sylvie covers her face in an attempt to hide the wide grin that's formed on her face, but Nicolette notices anyways.

"Now look who's all happy and shit because she got praised," Nicolette teases, nudging Sylvie on the shoulder.
"Q- quit it, Nicolette..." Sylvie mumbles.
"...anyways, are we on for magic lessons tonight?" you ask.
"Yeah, of course!" Sylvie replies happily.
"And maybe I can sketch Nicolette in her new dress afterwards..."
"Quit talking about that unless you want to get hit," Nicolette replies, scowling. "My ribs still hurt from that corset that my Mom had me wear, and the damned thing fits fine without it so there was no fucking point at all," she grumbles.

>Go to Armory (Scrolls are there, so are masterwork swords and a bunch of sidearms and just generally useful shit that we should get before going to Manicotti)
Fuck no how many threads do we have to go through before you fucks get the idea, i'm okay with getting a few scrolls, but no arming up.
>>
>>27783797
I support all of this.
>>
>>27783772
He's not, he's her dad.

He smirked when talking about Nicolette trying on a dress.

That alone should raise the biggest flag ever. Gregory never smirks. Gregory and Nicolette are both 'distant' royalty. Gregory is her dad, just ask Sylvie during the magic lesson. If he isn't then no harm done right?
>>
>>27783680
True.

We do need to remember to burn all that mana.
>>
>>27783797
Lets not do the armory thing and instead replace it with drawing./reading
Also we can always get the scrolls later.
>>
>>27783830
>>27783809
That makes three of us.
>>
>>27783797
Didnt whatsisname say our sword is pretty amazing?
Seems that getting another one would be sort of pointless unless its enchanted.
>>
>>27783831
>>27783847
Drawing is not a useful skill. Please guys think about it, we're going to a place filled with powerful mages and dragons and we'll have to guard Marianne in an enclosed space with hundreds of people around her.

If we take her safety seriously we have to do our best to arm up and generally be in our top shape for that ball.

It makes sense, right? It is our job after all.
>>
>>27783886
A man can have hobbies. We don't need to be all business all the time, leisure activities are good for our happiness and mental health.
>>
>>27783886
Our sword is fine, scrolls are a no brainier,
>>
>>27783797
Cheer up Marianne (if she is still upset only)
Sylvie's magic lesson
Train with Nicolette
Read/Sketch
Explore the castle.
>>
>>27783878
Our sword is at best of equal quality to the worst sword in the King's Armory.

I heard arc say it was great but we can't be attached to a sword, it's about the one wielding it. We can keep ours as a training and backup sword after we learn how to use the fucking +5 flame sword the King would give us because we're protecting the heir to the throne.
>>
>>27783886
We already are pretty armed. Our clothes have shit tons of magic and our own sword is awesome.
Stop trying to do unnecessary things.
>>
>>27783886
Our sword is already great and arming up with a few scrolls won't be difficult.

Stop powergaming and let the main character have his hobby instead of turning him into a cardboard cut-out bodyguard.
>>
>>27783886
Scrolls are good, but we have had this discussion and archelon straight up telling us that arming up is not needed numerous times.
>>
>>27783914
I'm voting we stop or tone down the sketching. Reading is just as refined and healthy and will teach us useful knowledge. We need knowledge (and dancing lessons to improve our footwork) more than we need artistic ability.
>>
>>27783918
We literally got told by Arnaud that we had something great and didn't need to replace it.
>>
>not wanting to be warrior-poets
I seriously hope you guys don't do this.
>>
>>27783930
Our sword is adequate and our clothes aren't even as good protection as full plate.

We can't settle for being adequate when a dragon assassin goes for our charge.
>>
>>27783950
Stop. Being. A. Powergaming. Faggot.

Let the man have his hobby.
>>
>>27783950
It was stated that artistic ability helped with magic anon.
>>
>>27783950
Am I the only one that thinks we should go and try to take a private dancing lesson, so as to get better when with the princess? It would also be good practice for our footwork, which we need to work on according to arnaud.
>>
>>27783970
In that case we Sanctuary. Or at least attempt to slow it down.
>>
>>27783797
>Armory
>Scrolls
>Scroll of "Spirit Field"
So... if we cast this in an emergency... say in a room where we are surrounded by like, people armed with metal, would the swords and armor and all things metal come flying at us?
>>
>>27783932
>>27783956
>>27783941
But you guys are fucking wrong. We have a sword which is inexplicably of high quality (we got it as an 8 year old urchin so I'm still not believing this) but still inferior to a million others.

Why the fuck wouldn't we take the benefits of our station as one of the most important guards in the entire kingdom?
>>
>>27783970
Archelon has asked people in both his threads and on the twitter to stop powergaming and has already told us, through characters in the story, that we already have a good enough sword and armor.

Cut it out.
>>
>>27783950
But I like our sketching
>>
That's OOC as fuck. He hates being with the old lady.
>>
>>27783970
>Our sword is adequate and our clothes aren't even as good protection as full plate.
1.Our sword was stated to be of equal quality of any sword in the armory and can be enchanted if we paid some one to do that.
2.Our clothes are enchanted to be the best for our fighting style, by the best mage in the kingdom.
>>
>>27783979
Except that's fucking wrong. I've scraped the archives and just finished re-reading them.

Don't make shit up. Getting lessons, reading about it, and practicing help. Nothing else.
>>
>>27783997
We already tried this. The same with getting new armor.

We were outright told we've already got the best the kingdom has to offer.
>>
>>27783980
This, i'm ok with.
We also need to work on our breathing and sword holding skills.
>>
>>27783970
We're not wearing fucking full plate to the ball. Arnaud is taking care of arrangements for acquiring something sufficiently fancy for ball and I'm sure he'll ensure that it's protective as well.

Our sword is just fine, unless we stumble across one of the Sealed Kings there's pretty much no reason to trade it in.
>>
>>27784001
Prove it please. Quote it because I've seen literally no evidence of what you're saying.
>>27784006
Okay then get it enchanted. Hurry up.
>>
QUESTION:
are scrolls affected by our element?
like, if we casted "stone wall" we'd get a metallic one. What would happen if we used a scroll of stone wall?

It's supposed to help visualize or something.

Not opposed to any of this in theory, but giving Marianne some space would be a good thing. The last confrontation was caused by not respecting her boundaries, and while everything went better than expected it won't always. Being attentive and honest going forward is the safest route, while we give her time to open up of her own initiative or for an opening to appear.

>>27783997
Because we were outright told by 2 different people that our sword is of equal quality of any in the armory.
>>
>>27784036
Then get better daggers, get more scrolls, do something, because arc is going to do something at the ball and if we aren't prepared the King is going to fucking murder us himself.
>>
Might as well say it now.

There is no point in going full Operator. Reinhold's equipment is enchanted to be as good as it gets, and his sword is better than anything in the armory. I try to put this stuff in-story, but that apparently doesn't work so I'm saying it again OOC.

Sketching isn't an entirely worthless hobby, feel free to draw things if you want. It might help, it might not. But it certainly won't hurt anything.

Reading is also a good idea, that's how you learn things.

Now I go help my moron sister move a car, and then it's back to

>>
>>27784010
For magic you need to imagine it and it was implied being artistic helped.(did you read the whole thread or what only archelon posted?)

Make up a story about how we got the sword because there's no fucking way a child urchin was able to find a sword out of thin air that's better than literally everything in the King's armory. It would've gotten stolen immediately.

It makes no fucking sense.

Foot work(maybe dancing)
Breathing(no idea how we can fix this one)
Sword holding(ask one of the knights about this one)

>Breathing

Meditation. That's all about proper breathing.

Swimming works for breathing.
>>
>>27784249
i can just see it now, while practicing our breathing in a lake we meet a water elemental and form a contract with it
then we can cast water and alkali metal explosion
>>
>>27784202
>Foot work(maybe dancing)
You're right that dancing might help with footwork, but we should also do some sparring either with someone on our level (Nicolette?) or maybe vs a group/with a handicap if we're short on people with equal skill.

>Breathing(no idea how we can fix this one)
Meditation like >>27784212 suggested, or maybe endurance training (laps around the castle!)

>Sword holding(ask one of the knights about this one)
He specifically noted that our grip was loose, so maybe some sort of sword drills for that?
>>

For foot work dancing and training.

I really hope Archelon just incorporates a lot of this magic and sword training stuff into our time-skip and gets a lot of it over with. This micro-managing is kind of a drag.

"Oh yeah..." you begin, "did you ever have magic classes with the Princess? She said that she knows how to use magic, so I was wondering why she doesn't take classes in it now."
"Uh, I started learning magic pretty late..." Sylvie begins, "but I think she learned with Nicolette?" she says, turning to Nicolette.
"Ugh, why did you have to bring that up..." Nicolette sighs. "Yeah, we learned how to use it back when were like eight or something. If she's not taking lessons now, maybe it's because she doesn't have any interest in it? That's how it was with me, anyways," she says, shrugging.
"I don't know why, I'm sure that both of you have talent in it..." Sylvie pouts.
"We can't all be magic nerds like you, Sylvie," Nicolette replies.

Instead of replying to that comment, Sylvie focuses on eating. The two of you take her lead, and you're all finished before long.

"Alright..." Sylvie stands up and stretches, "are you ready for your next magic lesson?"

Slavery's a thing, yeah. Granache and Marconetti are not cool with it, and execute anyone found buying/selling/owning slaves on sight. Ancellotta is all about that slave trade though, which is the primary source of conflict between it and its neighbors.

As for scars on Reinhold, he doesn't have any lash scars, the boss used his pimp hand to keep dem bitches in check. And no branding, since that goes into slavery territory. He kept the girls around through basic fear and the lack of any better opportunities in town for his stable of whores.

At some point, I want to get her to 'attack' us while we are forming script. This way, we can get practice for mid-combat spell weaving under safe conditions

Given that Nico is cheering for Sylvie and Reinhold, do you think she'd get in Sylvie's way? Plus Nicolette thinks magic is boring and wouldn't voluntarily go to a practice session.

But whatever, /tg/ chose the other option.

for now. leave the princess be, but sooner or later we should tempt her out of her bed room to get her to watch us train one in awhile. or at least watch when Reinhold has a BIG TIME sparring match with Nico or some one stronger. i bet she would go just to watch us get beaten down or make a surprise win when we roll good

Of course she is, she hasn't decided whether Sylvie and Reinhold are a serious possibility. Sans invitation, she'd happily excuse herself to find out what happened later. This is likely to be a milestone for Sylvie's route, particularly as she's doing this of her own initiative.

After Sylvie leaves, you turn to Nicolette.

"So, uh... you want to come along?" you ask.
"I can't stay for long, but I guess I can stick around while you're in the training hall at least," Nicolette replies.
"You don't have to come if you're busy,"
"Don't worry about it," she replies, laughing. "I have a bit of time before I have to get going."

With that, the two of you head for the training hall. As you enter, the guards who were training immediately stop what they were doing and stare at you.

"We're not sparring today, you jackasses!" Nicolette shouts so that everyone can hear her. "So get back to whatever you were doing!"

You hear some disappointed groans in the background as the guards wander off. With a sigh, Nicolette stretches her arms, making many painful-sounding cracking noises.

"Ugh... that fucking corset has me all sore," she moans.
"Yeah, that certainly sounds like it hurts," you reply, laughing.
"I'd like to go a few rounds with you, but yeah," she sighs. "Sorry about that."
"Eh, don't worry about it," you reply as you grab a nearby practice sword.

You then head to an unused practice dummy, and wail on it for a few minutes while Nicolette watches.

"Damn, Reinhold," Nicolette says, whistling. "Working out your pent-up frustrations at Marianne on that thing?" she asks, teasingly.
"Hm?" you turn to her. "Nah, it's just that I haven't been doing as much training as usual."
"Oh yeah, you actually -like- Marianne," Nicolette taunts playfully.

Before you can say nything in protest, you spot Sylvie running towards you.

Actually. I'd really like to try sparring against Sylvie.

Reinhold is pretty confident against mundane weapon users, but I'd like to see how we fare against magic.

So, What I figure is we start at the other side of the training room, and Sylvie tries to take us down nonlethally with magic. Then, she explains how she did it.

So, we get an idea what kind of spells we might be likely to come up against, as well as a crash course in spells that might be of use to us in a combat situation.

Also, I'd be interested to know what happened between Sylvie and Marianne.

"S... sorry for taking so long," Sylvie says, trying to regain her breath, "but it's so confusing in there..."
"Don't worry about it," you reply.
"Anyways, take this."

Sylvie tosses you a scroll, which you catch easily.

"Mr. Niklaus was telling me earlier that you might have been trying to focus on Earth and Metal magic exclusively, so he suggested this..." Sylvie says as she leads you to the middle of the training yard.
"If it's something that Niklaus suggsted, I dunno if I should be sticking around..." Nicolette says as she follows the two of you.
"It's nothing weird, just a demonstration," Sylvie replies.

Stopping in an area with plenty of clear space, Sylvie stretches her arms, cracks her knuckles, and jogs in place for a bit.

"Um... what's all that for?" you ask.
"Oh, just getting ready... Mr. Niklaus said that Earth magic is kind of limited in what it's really useful for, so a direct demonstration would be best," Sylvie replies.
"...direct demonstration?" Nicolette repeats, looking a bit worried.
"Alright, Reinhold. That scroll is for 'stone shell,' it's an Earth-element defensive spell. Just hold your arm out, open the scroll, and cast the spell. It'll last for as long as you concentrate."

You look at the scroll in your hand.

"Um, right now?" you ask.
"Whenever you're ready," Sylvie replies. "Nicolette, stand back."
"Already on that shit!" Nicolette says from quite a ways back.

You then open the scroll and concentrate on it. Doing exactly as Sylvie told you, you hold your arm out towards her.

"Stone Shell."

The scroll is instantly consumed by flames, and a sandy haze materializes in front of you, rapidly increasing in density as it forms into a large dome of rock that floats in the air an arm's length from your hand. Impressed with what you've just created, you try moving your arm... and the dome moves along with it!

"Huh, this is pretty cool..." you say, genuinely impressed.
"Yeah, it looks like something that Vincent would make," Nicolette says, having come a bit closer.

"Alright, point it towards me!" Sylvie shouts.
"Got it," you reply, doing as she says.
"Hey, what are you... aw shit," Nicolette says as she QUICKLY backs away.

...is Sylvie running at you?

Yes, yes she is. You can see her feet quickly approaching you, and...

"Cluster Impact!"

She punches your stone dome, and you're pushed back a few inches by a shockwave that somehow passes through it. You quickly regain your balance, and then look at where she hit.

OVer the span of less than a second, you see fracture lines scoring the inside of your dome, originating from where you assume that Sylvie punched. Once the entire thing is covered, you see the dome quickly lose its solidity...

...and explode.

Right in your face.

You're thrown back several feet, landing on your face splitseconds before the remains of your dome cover you in a pile of heavy rubble. With a groan, you push yourself out of the rocks, shaking the dust out of your hair.

"Oh no, Reinhold!" Sylvie shouts as she and Nicolette rush toards you. "I didn't think that the shockwave would be that large..." she apologizes, extending an arm to help you up.

"U- um..." Sylvie wipes the tears from her eyes. "That one's one of my father's, I actually just figured out how to use it properly a few days ago," she laughs nervously.
"Yeah, that sure as fuck was one of his," Nicolette chimes in.
"Umm, I'd be happy to teach it to you, but you're still just starting out at this so there's no way that you'd be able to manage it this soon..." Sylvie says, looking extremely guilty.
"...oh. Well, as long as you promise to teach me that when I'm good enough as magic," you reply, taking a moment to cough up some dust.

"Ehehe... sure," Sylvie says with a smile. "Umm, back to the point, I guess..."
"Oh yeah, there was an actual point to that little display, wasn't there," Nicolette quips.
"ANYWAYS," she says, smacking Nicolette in the back of the head, "it's kind of dangerous to depend on Earth-based defensive spells like that. They stay even after you release the spell, and if you were using that to defend the Princess just now, she'd have been caught up in the blast."

Suddenly, an image of the Princess pulling herself out of a pile of rubble like you just did floats into your mind.

"......yeah..." you say, shuddering.
"Sir Gregory uses stuff like wind and light barriers, and Mr. Niklaus mentioned bubbles... I would ask my father too, but I already know what he'd say..." Sylvie says.
"Yeah, 'I MYSELF AM A SHIELD' or something like that," Nicolette sighs.
"He's kind of weird like that sometimes," Sylvie replies.

Sylvie then looks around at the mess that her demonstration caused. There's rubble extending from the site of impact all the way to the all, and a few tables are broken.

"Oh... oh man..." Sylvie mumbles.
"Meh, don't worry about that," Nicolette says, stretching. "You're done here, right?"
"Um, yeah? But I made a real mess here..."
"Eh, you two head on to the library and I'll take care of this," Nicolette winks.
"A- are you sure?"

You know. From what we just observed it hould be possible to eventually create a sword extending spell. And since its weight doesnt transfer back to us we could still wield it. The sword could also be fortified to near unbreakability if i dont miss my guess.
But thats a concern for later i suppose.

"You owe me a sparring session, you know," you say as Nicolette pushes you through the doorway.
"Yeah, yeah," Nicolette replies, "I'll be sure to kick your ass another day."

With that, you and Sylvie head down the hallway, though you can still hear Nicolette yelling at the guards in the training hall.

"Alright, you little bitches! Whoever doesn't help me get these rocks up gets volunteered to serve as Reinhold's sparring partner for the next month!" she shouts.

The groans of protest from the guards grow faint as you head up the stairwell and into the library. As you enter, you look around for Gerhard... but he's nowhere to be found. Hoping that he won't decide to show up RIGHT BEHIND YOU, you follow Sylvie to a nearby table and take a seat.

There's more to wielding a sword than its weight. Make it too long and your control over it starts slipping since you have to swing it further to reach an opponent who isn't standing immediately in front of you. You also surrender the ability to fight effectively at close range, etc etc.

I suggest a small crossbow instead. Or magic missile.

"so..." you begin, "how exactly did you cast that spell?"
"Hm?" Sylvie rustles through a pile of papers that was left on the table. "It's something like sending the force of an earthquake through your fist... and aftershocks... it took me a while to unerstand what my father was talking about, I thought the spell was Mantra at first," she says.
"After... what?" you blink, having no idea what that means.
"Yeah, exactly!" Sylvie laughs.

Sylvie then stands up and looks around. Seeing that there's nobody around, she cups her hands around her mouth and inhales deeply.

"Mr, Gerhard? Are you around?" she shouts.

Seconds later, Gerhard walks from behind a bookshelf.

"I apologize for my lateness, Miss Sylvie," he says, bowing, "Mr. Niklaus and I got into a bit of an argument earlier, and I'm afraid that I'm not in the best of moods. I've been thrown off ever since."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that," Sylvie replies.
"It's nothing that you need to worry about. So, did you need something of me?"
"Yes, um..." Sylvie says, fidgeting. "I was wondering if you could bring me a bucket?"

Gerhard stops for a few seconds and stares at Sylvie with a puzzled expression.

"...ah, for magic lessons," Gerhard says, snapping his fingers. "I didn't even notice you there, Reinhold. Good evening."
"Hey, Gerhard," you reply.
"So it's just the bucket? I'll be right back with one..."

A couple years back a friend and I put together some fake weapons for a roleplay event. After making the reasonably sized ones we needed, we used the rest of the materials to make hysterically oversized versions that only weighed a little more than their realistic counterparts.

As much fun as people's reactions were, the big weapons were awkward as hell and were quickly abandoned. People kept whiffing when they attacked and couldn't make a decent guard. Had nothing to do with the weapons themselves--using the super-sword as a naginata proved pretty effective--but the training required was different. Plus there's still only one weapon and you've increased the number of potential opponents you'd have to keep track of by as many orders of magnitude as your sword has increased in length.

I'm guessing it has to do with recoil management. If you were to punch something with the full force of an earthquake anywhere on the Richter scale, your arm would turn into a pulpy mess due to the whole equal and opposite reaction thing of Newton's. If, however, you could channel the reverberation traveling up your arm back the way it came, you'd get another detonation, or an aftershock, if weaker due to some of the energy being lost in the turning.

I dunno though, I haven't done physics for a while.

You got into an argument with Niklaus?" you ask.
"Yes..." Gerhard says, turning around to face you. "it's been quite a while since I've been in so foul a mood," he sighs.
"Oh... sorry to bring it up."
"No, there's no harm in explaining what happened. You see, I'd gotten a request last night from Mr. Niklaus to retrieve several books that weren't in his own personal library. Over the night, I found each one and gathered them together for him."

"Then, this morning, he somehow managed to rope poor Miss Melanie into coming here in the wee hours of the morning to bring him the books," Gerhard lets out a long sigh. "I told her that I'd be happy to do it myself, but she insisted and so that poor girl was forced to carry a large stack of books all the way to his study."
"...oh, that's what that was about..." you reply. "I actually ran into her in the hall and helped her carry them to Niklaus."

Gerhard disappears for a few seconds, returning with a book that has what appears to be large black holes burned into it.

"Most of them were returned in THIS condition," Gerhard says, clenching his fist, "with chemical burns everywhere. I don't think I need to say that they are now unreadable."
"Oh... oh my..." Sylvie says, staring at the ruined book.
"And the rest were covered in that crystalline parasite that you'd only find in the wilderness. I had to incinerate those outright, along with the table that he'd dropped them on," he says with a long sigh.
"Damn. I knew he was weird, but I didn't think he'd do something like that," you reply.

"I had words with him, but he dismissed me in the same way that he dismisses everyone who isn't either the King or Sir Vincent as being beneath him... I have half a mind to escalate the conflict, but I am a mere butler and he is the court mage," he says with a look of defeat. "I have no recourse save to find replacements for the books he ruined myself."

spoiler:
And the origin of said powers are actually parasitic fragments of Cthulhu attached themselves to parahumans, and every few months a major city is attacked by one of three unbeatable kaiju known as Endbringers, with at least a hundred heroes or villians dying just to drive them off every time.

"And those crystal things that he was going on about, what's with those?" you ask.
"The crystalline parasites?" Sylvie asks. "um, there were some eperiments with those a long time ago, and I think he's trying to revive the research. The old experiments involved using them to enhance the human body, and then there was his own research with putting the independent type into objects and manipulating them... last I checked, the parasitic-type experiments all failed, though."
"...huh."

"So, uh... why'd you ask Gerhard for a bucket?" you ask.
"Ehehe..." Sylvie smiles. "That's part of today's lesson. I'll tell you more when he gets back."

"One more question," you say.
"Ask away!" Sylvie replies happily.
"About Nicolette's father..." you begin.
"Wha- I mean, of course I know, but-" Sylvie stammers.

It's not nice to invade her privacy.
>>
>>27787862
Say something along the lines of no matter who it is, that it won't affect how we think of Nicolette.
>>
>>27787862

"Just a hint. Is it someone I've met?"

Be hypocritical to pry.
>>

It's not life or death, just speculation. And not pushing it is another reminder that looking into people's pasts when they don't care to have you looking is uncouth.

Don't push it. It might put unnecessary strain between the two, and for dubious benefit.

All you have to is convince her you won't act differently once you know, and you can convince her by saying you are not acting differently towards sylvie even though you know her father is vincent. Besides we already know she is high royalty.

I'm trying to figure out the title of that announced anime where the mother of the MC suddenly turns young again and has to go back to high school.

Though archelon's already said Reinhold isn't noble, so he probably isn't a reborn royal adventure bro.
