Your eyelids flutter, sparse sunlight filtering into them as though through wings of flutterbys. With a deep and chest heaving yawn, you rub away cold crusties from your eyes and sit up in your bed for a cat-like stretch.

Another morning, another day of training. The dim light in the room from the crack of dawn being enough for your feline eyes, you scoot off of your bed and prowl over to your mirror with a comb and brush in hand.Practice would start in an hour and you couldn't let your hair or for look like a mess after all.
Everyone else should be rousing about this time too.
Staring into the mirror, you run your bone-comb through your scarlet hair, looking your body over.

Orange claws made of of teeth, fur, feline eyes and ears, fat. You frown at that last one.
Or rather all of them together, your tail hanging low.

It took you time to get used to your fur after the bandages came off. Not just the upkeep of the thick coat, but the fact that it was there and that you were still pretty chubby. You didn't mind the fat back then but... It's kind of dawning on you that it definitely stands out as a feature among other rangers.

Picking up your brush, you run it over your fur, following the flow of growth.

Thinking on last night, it was sudden at the time.. Bruise kissed you like that. It was weird, out of nowhere but...

>[] You kind of liked it.(Do you have a little crush on him?)

Now. On to MACHO BRACE TRAINING!!!!!!!!!.

It's fine to be annoyed with him, but there's no reason to be angry. Especially with Cerulean's personality.

[X] He shouldn't have done that, it was mean. You'll need to talk to him about that.

We thought he was in danger, and he kissed us like that. We were actually worried about him.

If he wanted to kiss Kitty he should've just done it and not gotten us involved.

Annoyed at how he went about it, not particularly repulsed or interested by the kiss, but he didn't do it right. And of course we can tease him about this for years.

You lean to the mirror, touching your claw to your lips as you look at them, a frown forming as you recall what happened last night.

Drawing back, you return to brushing your fur, looking down at the floor, trying to figure out exactly how you felt about it. After some throes between disgust, and a bit of indifference, you decide that he shouldn't have done that, it wasn't right, you thought he was drowning. Drowning is bad, you almost drowned..

With a cold and sullen sigh, you look back into the mirror with a pout," Well, at least he got what he deserved, Kitty made sure of that." You smile finally. Though only because he's alright after all. That's what's important anyway.

You open up the parcel bearing the Macho Brace, picking up what's more akin to a set of restrictive straps and bindings.
Looking at the instruction manual:

>Macho Brace:
>Used as an intensive training aid.
>May be deactivated and activated through input via CGS or manually removed by an assistant of profound strength.

The instructions are sparse in way of warning, unlike the manuals you'd read of Silph-approved equipment. Warning this, warning that, Silph isn't responsible for this, and so on. It's important to read those things though you figure. important to know things like that, right?

With a bit of a smile, you begin to don the Braces of the Macho set, lining it up with your CGS.

"Alright then... It says this is how you turn it on..." With a hand over each shoulder youinitiate it through the manual inputs, instantly feeling every movement constricted, slowed.

Trying to even pull your arms away from your chest is like trying to swim through cement, every inhuman muscle in your body straining against the force, even moving your fingers proves to be difficult due to fingertip bindings.

With a bit of resolve, you steel yourself, trying to get dressed the rest of the way, feeling every trained muscle rippling beneath your fatty flesh.

Even breathing's become hard in this harness.

>Ten burnt! Power through.

You begin to sweat as you muscle on through with every movement, every shallow breath restricted and taxing.

You calm yourself from the initial shock of the device, cooling yourself back into comfort and wiping away the sweat seeping through your fur.
No, you're going to do this. You can do this. Nothin'gs going to keep you from wearing this thing, as much as it hurts.

Getting dressed is an exercise, walking down the hall to training a marathon. You begin to lose your nerve a little. What made you think that you could wear this stupid thing? Why didn't Bruise get this?

You fall into lineup with your abdomen and legs aching, you fall behind everyone else in the standard runsa and basic calisthenics, being poked fun at by Devon.

"So, Ice Queen's finally losing her spunk for training? About damn time you started slacking."
"Sht p.. v'n...." You grunt between your teeth amidst pushups, your cold blood going haywire as heat builds beyond your normally comfortable temperatures.
"Huh, what did you-"
"Shut up!" You spit out as you straighten your arms, shaking from the tension of the mechanism beneath your clothes.

Devon begins to growl at you low before catching the direct attention of Kitty,"Problem with Cerulean's newest training device?" She looks up from her own single digit pushups, a sly smile as Bruise replicates her technique.
"Everything Cerulean's doing now is roughly ten times more difficult" She grins, flashing sharp teeth,"By my count she's already done a hundred push-ups. That easily equates to a thousand. I believe you're still only on two hundred and thirty-seven?"

Bruise's jaw drops at the fact, and then his face brightens as if to say "Where do I get one?"
Devon's jaw goes slack and he redoubles his focus on his own task, pushing faster than before.

Your body continues to scream, though it feels good in a way, this is the difficulty that you remember forcing yourself through.

Stamina: 5%

Somehow making it through the day, and tiredly answering the questions of your fellow trainees, you begin thinking of Lilac. She's the friend that couldn't make it to your birthday, cooped up in the tiny Lavender quarter, and more specifically, the spire.

You need to visit her, share some leftover cake, talk to her, give her some company. She always likes it when you visit after all.

Yet amidst these thoughts and your exhausted state you almost fail to hear Kitty calling your name.
"Cerulean."
"Kitty!" You gasp as straighten your back and posture against the brace.
"You are to report to Giovanni. There's someone here to see you today." Kitty looks over the others with her cat-like eyes.
"The rest of your are dismissed to whatever extra activities you have planned today."

The rest of the squad salutes with a round of "Kitty!" receiving an appraising nod from your feline instructor.
"Cerulean, with me."

You follow dutifully, though your mind lingers on your visit to Lilac. As you walk with Kitty to Giovanni's office, you press the manual deactivation upon each of your shoulders and turn, powering the training aide.
In that moment you feel light as a feather, though your body is effectively jello, falling without the brace's restrictions keeping your legs up.

Kitty's tail flicks and she looks back to you,"Ohh, you turned it off, hmm? You did good pushing on with that thing all day you know. I'm actually pretty proud to call you my student."

You force yourself up and back to standing, wobbling upon uncertain and tired legs," Th-thank you." Breathing is easier again.

"Umm, Kitty? I was wondering if this'll take a while, I had a friend to see." You speak to her moderately, watching your word as not to seem uncaring.
"Oh, you may have time, depends on what they have to speak with you about." Kitty shrugs at that as she gestures for you to walk again.
"Come now."
"Yes Kitty," You stumble forward, finding your legs stiff and unresponsive.
Training with that thing is like Reverse. You shouldn't even think that word though, it's bad after all.

Kitty lets you go into Giovanni's office alone, having business elsewhere.
There sits a woman, legs pressed firmly together in a dark gray skirt with a matching silver-gray blouse, both with an elegant golden trim upon the hems.

The Boss nods to you with a smile and a nod,"Here she is, our one and only top trainee, Cerulean."

You salute to the boss,"Cerulean reporting Boss, you called?"
The Boss stands, sweeping his hand elegenatly across his body," Indeed I have, Miss Cornelia Seraphis here as asked for Rocket assistance. I have recommended you for the job." He looks to the woman sitting there, her eyes closed and an intelligent air about her. You'd expect her to wear glasses.

The woman's eyes open, blonde hair done up into a bun to stay out of the way, she inclines her head to you," Sure she can get this job done?"

"It's nice to meet you Cornelia Seraphis, might I-"
"Miss Seraphis is the proper way to address me." The woman sounds impatient, and her voice carries a condescending tone to it.
Seraphis rises from her seat suddenly, looking you up and down, her face a near expressionless mask that remind you somewhat of Leader Sabrina.
"Hardly inconspicuous, aren't you? Fur, tail, feline ears?"
"Sorry?" You don't know that word, but it sounds like she doubts you.
Seraphis looks over to your boss,"Are you certain that she can complete the task I've told you of? It does require a certain amount of discretion.

Giovanni frowns slightly, his gaze oppressing upon the woman, though far more subdued than the extent you've seen it in the past," I am certain Miss Seraphis, otherwise I would not have picked her." You feel a small bit of tension build in the room that is entirely ignored by the woman, causing you to feel a small tinge of hatred.
No one disrespects the boss.
The woman brings up something akin to an index, though not mounted on a CGS. or a few moments as the light from her handheld glimmers off of her eyes and the multitude of screens she's working through.
"Cerulean. Daughter of Lorelei born upon July 4th, 1XXX. Achievement of time has landed her in the position if training as a future rocket to which up until this point she has exceeded all expectations." Miss Seraphis glowers upon you with a dismissing look as she continues.
"A modest child at heart, often looks out for her friends, has received training in ice techniques, evil techniques, and known to use water shots in tandem with hand to hand combat."

Seraphis nods, flipping through a few more screens," She certainly can defend herself. Leadership potential as well with her clear head. I suppose she will have to do."
The woman reaches into her skirtpocket, withdrawing a handkerchief to cover her hand, and offers it to you," Pleased to meet you Cerulean, please pardon my scrutiny, I am not in the mood for further mistakes to be made over this issue."

You look to Giovanni, seeking permission. At his nod, you reach out to take the handkerchief, surprised when the woman instead takes your hand, shakes it, and then tucks away the piece of cloth.

"Uh, I-" You're at a loss for words, befuddled by that little gesture.

Seraphis, touches her pad, standing to the side.
"Your mission.. Cerulean. Is to seek out what Silph has deemed as a theft rather than an error in our thrice-checked accounting of materials and resources that would be distributed and manufactured within our very own city. Attempts to investigate this has failed to yield new information via quote-unquote ethical means. With our Civic Guard failing, we have deemed it necessary to seek Rocket assistance for investigation into this dirty little matter."

You scrunch your eyebrows at some of her words, as they elude you, though,"Am I to understand, Miss Seraphis, that I... won't be fighting monsters on this mission?"

The woman stares at you for a moment,"We exclude no possibility. You are to find the cause behind the lost resources, which seem to be metals."

"We'd prefer if you could turn something up within the week. Though the mission itself may extend past that."
Seraphis pulls out a slip of paper, a rather uncommon thing.

With your last question answered, you salute Seraphis dutifully," I'll find your answers."

"On second thought, leave me out of the loop on that." She looks back to you.
"And only report what you manage to find evidence of... Call it intuition."

She bows herself out to both of you," I appreciate your time. Please carry on." Making a swift exit, Seraphis leaves the room with the clacking of office heels.

It's kind of nice that she's gone, you feel tired tension leave your body.

Giovanni gives a sort of smirk,"Mysterious, isn't it? A mission based upon an error in accounting. No witness testimony. Nothing apparent from preliminary investigation. Or was there even one?" Giovanni passes a hand over his desk, grasping a mug and sipping at it gently before rolling the fluids around.
"I'd wager that she has come directly to us, as it is unlikely that Silph would allow a secretary to pursue a lead based upon a hunch. In their organization it is a means to prove one's worth by pointing out the failings of your superiors."

You nod, listening to The Boss intently," Right, so what would you like me to do, Boss?"

"Play along with this little charade, look into it. She's transferring funds and resources out of her own account for this matter. It is a gamble for her, and payment for us." The Boss's stare firms upon you, steeling the resolve in your heart.

"You will be relieved of training exercises for this weak to investigate as needed. As she has stated, you are not to wear your rocket uniform while investigating. Understood."

It does depend of how mindreading works. We should have a consult with Goldie, to see. He can definitely read our surface thoughts, without a test, it appears. If that is all then only one is fine, but if there are skill tests involved having both is great.

Devon will do whatever it takes to prove his worth, even if it means working under someone else. He's prideful and respects Cerulean in his own way.
He is also a Dark type and I suspect that in the case that this isn't a wild goose chase that espers may be involved.

He's also quite good at getting information out of people with non-esper means.
>>
>>28648088
Why in the world would you choose Alexis over goldenrod?

He is better than her in every category. Now is not the time for social links.

One very good reason to take Alexis instead of Grumpy is because she is human. People look at us and see rangers and some people are prejudiced against pokegrafts.

Just look at that hankerchief thing.
>>
>>28648111

They will be informed and ready for the next day, the mission will begin tomorrow!

Giovanni nods upon your choices, a smirk upon his face,"It will be interesting to see how Devon works under you. Should he prove to be a good follower I may consider him worthy of leading a team in the future." Giovanni takes a long blink, his smirk pulled further.

"Ah yes, I'd also invited you here to mention that in Pallet Square's Research institute you should find an associate of your mother's checking in, if you'd like, I'll call them to inform them that you're on your way. Unless you have preparations to make, of course."

Well, we might not get the chance to see Lilac for some time, so let's take this opportunity to visit her.

>>
>>28648946
You don't spend time with someone on your first (very important) mission. Besides its a dark type thing.
>>
>>28648929
You're assuming the worst. I know we've discussed Devon a little in the QTGs.

That's only one of the possible ways in which his character could develop. He also has a professional side to his character, and it's in our best interests to cultivate that aspect of his personality.

It was the same way with Goldie, really. He could have grown in a negative way if it wasn't for our intervention in his life.

We don't just ignore something until it becomes a problem. We need to involve ourselves, to stop the problem from ever having to become one in the first place.
>>
>>28648877
I don't know how everyone else feels about crazy, but I feel the best way to portray it is to lie to us - to give us false information that we act on rationally - and then let us see the results of our actions. It's not like real crazy, but I think it's as good as we're going to get.
>>
>>28648972

They don't tolerate hurting people, man. If Devon pulls any shit, we have ties to Giovanni himself. Even if we didn't, though, he'd get his ass grassed fast. Either dead, or graftless immediately.

I really REALLY doubt people fuck around with Hellfire. Cinnabar Rangers strike me as the "Watch the fuck out of these kids because if you don't they could burn a city apart."

>>28649050
Your presumptions to the Cinnabar are correct. They don't even play around with real fire, regarding it as highly dangerous in terms of sparring and even forbidding them from the Veridian test.

Hellfire is a colossal NO. The burn never stops hurting once inflicted. It may even never heal. He is absolutely forbidden against turning his flame against anything but a monster.
>>
>>28649133
Then like this anon said>>28649108
It's battle instinct. Hopefully we won't be fighting at all this time. He'd be useful if we find a powerful Esper
>>

>>
>>28649107
I always assumed that Devon respected us in his own way, and Giovanni seems to think the same way as well.

You think of him as a loose canon, but I don't think he is. That's the impression he gives you. The one he gives me is that he wants to be the best and he's not afraid to show off that ambition. His aggression is just posturing.

It's difficult to stop him ONCE he segues into his Evil mindset. That's something that can be controlled.

>>
>>28649151
Evil instincts don't care about rules.
>>
>>28649149
That is considerably.
...considerably...
less cool
>>
>>28649151
>>28649201
Or, wait, I guess that's something we can ask Devon himself once we meet up with him and the rest of the team.

Bonding opportunities and all that.
>>
>>28649151
Then you should have mentioned the downsides aswell. And talked about the other two and their pros and cons
>>
>>28649238
We asked why he suggested Devon. Not what are the pros and cons of all of his suggestions.
>>
>>28649238
Wasn't prompted for either of those things. You also seem to have a preformed opinion of the downsides as well.
>>
>>28649201
He only mentioned the positives of one side. That's is called arguing.
>>
>>28649269
>>28649238
I don't think you are ever gonna be satisfied no matter what, man.

How close are we to jumping ship?
>>
>>28649151
>>28649221
I know Kitty's "Evil mindset" unconsciously reacts whenever she's annoyed, but is it because of the Evil typing or is it because of the specific move? Because I believe that was mentioned before?

'Course, it's a whole different matter for Devon, who's implant already has the Evil typing.

Just wondering if us people who only learned the Evil moves can actually suppress them or if they manifest unconsciously. Or if Kitty's case is just due to a specific move.

>>28649269
We already had an idea of what the downsides were, though. If we didn't, nobody would be arguing against Devon coming in.
>>
>>28649265
Preformed based on what was given earlier. And it's standard to provide all the sides, QMs should always be careful to maintain neutrality.

Just continue with the quest.
>>
>>28649269
He was asked for Giovanni's opinion, not his own.

He answered in-character and people made a decision based on that.

The real question is whether or not you or other people can seperate IC and OOC decision-making. And which one are you using right now.
>>
>>28649302
We knew the upsides to. Or atleast they could be infered. Doesn't mean he should try to maintain neutrality.

Saying we already knew them is a cop out
>>
>>28649291
We're 10th from the bottom.

>>28649304
Yeah, although I don't really think Prof was being biased at all, I understand and know that there are people around here who just go along with whatever options the QM has immediately raised without ever joining in on the discussion. So let's just try to avoid this sort of hassle in the future.
>>
>>28649319
That's what I was thinking. I just read it as IC talking. People seem to have a big problem separating it when a decision doesn't go their way.
>>
>>28649339
No one needs to ask why Devon shouldn't come, but people actually had to ask why he should, which is a noticeable difference.
>>
>>28649319
I can, and Cerulean would never choose Devon (firey, hotheaded, competent, loose cannon) over Bruise (its fucking bruise i don't have to explain)
>>
>>28649302
Kitty is a Persian.

They naturally lash out for seemingly no reason at all, which is a reason she's been able to condition herself to a pseudo-evil mindset and use evil moves so effectively.
It's similar to Crytten's habit of using deception and cold-blooded killing tactics to get food. Let's just say that Ceru is unlikely to be as predisposed to cutting bitches at random, and more disposed to act cute until it no longer suits purpose.
At least, in the future.
>>
>>28649368
The fact that the issue was raised means all sides should have been presented.
>>
>>28649402
Then ask, though it would've taken even longer.

Almost done with next post.
>>
>>28649399
>act cute
My entire life is a lie

Whoo!

It's just something you should think about when doing that.
>>
>>28649375
I can see reasons why Cerulean would bring Devon onto the team. Giovanni presented him as an option, being one.

Another is that we've been developing Cerulean towards being 'professional' when on the job. So personal feelings on others (of which we have not yet decided what Cerulean thinks of Devon; we can be annoyed and angry at him, but we haven't settled yet on whether her thoughts on him are still that shallow or if she actually hates/fears him like some anons do) can be put aside for the job.
>>
>>28649375
>"I'd also like to test your ability at handling one of the more headstrong ranger trainees."

Yeah it's not like we don't want to constantly prove ourself to the Boss- OH WAIT
>ELITE
>>
>>28649447
Well then, as long as no ill feelings are had, I'd say the issue is resolved.
>>
>>28649485
Pretty sure that means.

> QM thinks it would be fun to write.

We all know giovanni is a self insert of prof. Giovanni is only there to tell Cerulean what Prof wants.
>>
>>28649545
Giovanni is Giovanni, he's not a mouthpiece.

Occasionally he shows different opinions than Ceru does because actual characters have opinions.
>>
>>28649545
Eurgh. Oh gawd.
>>
>>28649560
He also wears speedos, and the mortal mind cannot fathom a fa/tg/uy in a speedo

>>28649593
Case closed.

Now everyone shut up, the next part'll be up any time now.

Bruise:

Can you fucking imagine
Bruise with a Macho Brace

Could always let him borrow it.

You do have to explain.

What exactly would Bruise provide?

He's not exceptionally stealthy, and while he's no idiot he's also not a genius.

He's pretty much good at hitting things for an extended period of time.

And... that's it.
>>
>>28649640
'Course, it'd be easier on him than on us. Unless the brace adjusts for the individual?

>>28649654
Cool.

Thread archived, people!

Oh, he is already mad jelly, we saw such during pushups.

If we talk to him soon (including the talk about the birthday party) we should explain that the team composition has nothing to do with that. It is just that this is a on-standard mission primarily inside the dome, we don't even know if we are going to be fighting anything.
>>
>>28649672
*non-standard
>>
>>28649663
You forget a few things actually.

He is a tracker, has damn good observation skills. He can deal with any sort of physical barrier or obstacle in our way, is fast as fuck, we work well with him, and he can beat the fuck out of a lot of things.
>>
>>28649663
True. Bruise is folksy. He helps people to relax.

But we've already got ourselves as the face. We're the CHARMer.

>>28649700
Devon is a Houndoom, a pokemon much more suited to hunting. So he's a tracker too, possibly even better.

Devon may not be able to mash obstacles, but he's strong and fast too. And I'm sure he'd be happy to beat on stuff.
