Notes on Rolls and Voting:

When I request rolls, each set of three rolls counts for one action. For example, a two-step plan would take the first 6 linked rolls. A particularly bad failure can interrupt a string of actions.

When rolling 1d100, I will consider criticals within the first ten linked rolls. Only criticals that occur in the first three rolls will be counted as "supercrits". This is still the case even if you'd have plan long enough to require more than ten rolls.

When rolling 1d20, the rules are the same, but I only consider criticals for the first five rolls, rather than ten. Criticals in the first three are still "supercrits".

When a plot choice results in extensive debate, I'll try to weed out the most popular trains of thought, and then call a vote on them. When voting, please respond with only a link back to the post and the number corresponding to your opinion. Other votes are discounted, including those with dice rolls or extra spaces.

Finally, note that this is not a democracy; it is a benevolent dictatorship.

Arland Summit Summary: Goals, Objectives, and Major Characters (thanks to Sorry for helping me and the players out!):

http://pastebin.com/FsP2C5Hr
-----

Current Events Summary:

You've worked with Yi Fang, Hemmelus, and Adavan to trace the other end of Donovan's parasite. It is beneath the cathedral near the center of the Dobshire castle town.

You snuck into the church dedicated to the four Greater Elementals, trying to find a way down. To your surprise, Arcturis, Donovan's father, and Matthel, a strong supporter and Donovan's second oldest brother, came in behind you. Matthel seemed to be trying to persuade Arcturis out of something.

The snippets of conversation you caught were incriminating. You decided to followed them.

And indeed, the two lords led you through the maze-like catacombs beneath the church and to a secret elevator hidden within. You slipped inside before the doors shut.

Below the cathedral, in a cavern inside the bowels of the bedrock of Dobshire, was the 3rd Highest angel, Metatron, and a summoning sigil the likes of which you'd never before seen. It had components of every element, and you found the parasite depositing the last element it was stealing from Donovan - Light.

QUESTION DUMP INCOMING:
I’ve been rereading Shadow quest lately and several things have stuck out to me in rereading that I think should be brought to attention. I apologize in advance for grammar, things I may have missed, things that may have been explained already, or just stupid mistakes, because I wrote (and read) the majority of this whilst high out of my mind on painkillers. Also, I typed this all out in Word, but due to not being at home during the time in which Shadow quest is supposed to start, I was forced to transfer it to my phone, so beware of formatting issues, and if a question needs clarifying I may take some time to respond. I also have a small bit of speculation as to how the match ups would go if we were to fight The Ringed City right now, tacked onto the end (I had written it up a few days ago and I want to make sure people knew who posted the question). Since there's quite a lot and this isn't really pastebin worthy material, I will be using 1 post per topic and linking every post to this one and the opening one. I will also be taking a temporary name. Most of these are questions directed at SM, but a few or the last ones are reminders and things I have found that are relevant now.

Arcturis demanded to speak with Metatron, who subsequently communicated to them through a magical mirror. Arcturis had been a reluctant party to the proceedings, but unlike Matthel, did not know that the spell would harm Donovan - he was led to believe it would simply drain his magical talent, leaving him otherwise intact.

Arcturis confronted Sandalphon with this information. Sandalphon admitted that he'd lied, but the pressure of the Empire's power was able to force Arcturis into a grudging silence.

Upon exiting the passage, your allies cut them off at the entrance to the cathedral. You intervened before Donovan's passion bested his judgement, restraining both him and Matthel. Thinking quickly, you forced Arcturis to put together the facts. With Yi Fang's testimony that the shel'kath parasite eventually took the life of its host, Arcturis decided to jump ship and join your alliance, thus subverting the Empire's leverage over his country.

Matthel, however, placed more stock in the angels, and upon hearing his father's capitulation, used the Windburn to break free of your Shadow Control and blast away your party. Thankfully, your body and Yi Fang's shield were able to protect the others, but after the explosion, you were the only one in shape to chase after Matthel.

You now pursue him to the bowels of the cathedral as he makes a break for Metatron...

The Spirit Sword from the beginning:
What WAS the Spirit sword that we got from the well in Jacobs Field? Was it just a plain Spirit enchanted sword? And is it possible for items to gain enchantments by natural means such as being exposed to large amounts or a certain type of magic? And how does that happen? And if it is possible to enchant weapons like this would letting them soak in a mana pool for a while do the same thing? Or alternatively was it some relic of the Elementomachy that a Spirit elemental coalesced around? How strong was it really? Like Top-Notch king weapon? Or just something for an expert to be expected to use? And right after the enchantment was destroyed you said that remaking it would be easy, does that mean we could just go dip it in a spirit mana pool and have it be what it used to be? And lastly, do we still even have it? These are all important questions.

Enchanted weapons are created by enchanters who imbue adamantium with magical properties while it is being forged. Adamantium can be reshaped, but it cannot be re-enchanted. This is why the ability Heartstone Titan requires -raw- adamantium.

That particular spirit sword was strong, but not anything ridiculous. It was an old forgotten leftover of a battle that took place over Hecate's tomb when Adavan's forces were retreating from Raijin's army to cover Hecate's act of sealing herself. (all things you'd find from Adavan, so I don't mind informing you)

Things other than you tend to disintegrate into their component atoms when they touch a mana pool, so dipping anything in it might pose a problem.

I will answer further questions after posting the starting stuff.

Other Elementals (natural ones):
Why haven't we seen any? (besides the spirit one in the beginning). We keep hearing about all this instability and how the Angels frequently hunt them so it seems like there should have been quite a few forming around Venia. Not to mention we have traveled all over the place to the deepest and far reaching places and we haven’t even sensed one. Also, What would happen if we ran into a natural Shadow Elemental? >Last time...

You sprint to the end of the Nave. You Blink, and then you're at the hall. You hear the door below you blow off its hinges in a gust of Wind.

You leap over the railing, and turn into Ink, snaking between the flights of stairs and dropping straight to the bottom. You tear through the entrance into the catacombs and blink up to the first corner.

But Matthel was waiting for you! He's already on top of you in the cramped hallway, sword cutting down, wreathed in green wind.

You Ink your body against the stone wall, pressing flat. Matthel's sword cuts air.

And it actually does cut air. A spark flashes. A series of explosions rips down where you stood before, igniting in a roiling ball of fire. It crashes down through the hall, leaving only a pile of behind you, blocking the path down. Hazy smoke fills the air.

Matthel's already turning to run. He thinks he hit you!

You have the initiative.

Matthel's back is turned to you. He heads straight down the long, square hallway--just tall enough for him to stand straight in. The stone blocks of the catacombs enclose from all sides. There are plenty of intersections and blind corners ahead, but at the moment, he has nowhere to run.

What do you do?

Supercrit streak lla:
Back when we were fighting against the Kanianans at Evinbrook, when we were moving to repair/clear of enemies from the Ring Citys airship and we rolled Quadrouple 5s on a d5 all in a row, considering that nothing really that special happened after that besides lla showing up, did that amazing run of crits get us lla? Did you create a character for the dice? Even if you did I applaud you, she is honestly my favorite character in the quest besides maybe Fang, and I don’t want this to seem like I’m accusing you or anything.

>>

>>30288891
This.
>>
>Why haven't we seen any? (besides the spirit one in the beginning).

The angels are moving about and hunting them down. They tend to occur around mana pools, which are mostly accounted for. In fact, the infrastructure developed to contain and utilize mana pool energy also serves to dampen elemental spawning.

The real reason you haven't seen them lately is because they haven't been relevant to our plotline. The first had duel purpose: it served as an interesting enemy, and filled the role of informing you of an important part of the setting. It's an important background fact that contributes to the situation as it stands, but I don't have time to include everything from the background all the time, and sometimes I leave things out because I'm not thinking about them. It's not a big deal.

>We keep hearing about all this instability and how the Angels frequently hunt them so it seems like there should have been quite a few forming around Venia.

Like I said, the ones on the surface are mostly accounted for. The fossils that you can find by kicking over a little dirt are all in museums.

>Not to mention we have traveled all over the place to the deepest and far reaching places and we haven’t even sensed one.

Again, just the elimination of details that are not immediately relevant.

>Also, What would happen if we ran into a natural Shadow Elemental? Minion status? Or just another threat to it?

Destroying demons:
When a demon normally gets “killed” it gets banished back to the nether correct? But when we kill a demon are we consuming its existence? Because it is clear that demons “exist” merely by how we resummoned Xelia and she had he memories and previous opinion of us and all that stuff. So that discounts the theory that “summoning it just taking Nether and forcing it into a template” which it kind of is, but there appears to be more than we’re being told.

Yeah, but CAN we debuff it?

Remember, SM said Windburn was pretty much PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWERS! hax. We may just need to ware him down by throwing obstacles in his path.
>>
>>30289014
Even if we can't get rid of his buff we should still be able to reduce his overall power/defense. Which would help a lot in slowing him down or subduing him.

He also said that it was extremely exhausting.

>>30288931
Demons aren't really that filling, seeing as we only consume their outer shell.

>>
>>30289039

>>
Wait, why not blink in front of him and make ourselves appear as Donovan? It'll slow him down and put him on the spot if we question him and it'll also tell us if he's really willing to kill his brother.
>>
>>30288844

>Back when we were fighting against the Kanianans at Evinbrook, when we were moving to repair/clear of enemies from the Ring Citys airship and we rolled Quadrouple 5s on a d5 all in a row, considering that nothing really that special happened after that besides lla showing up, did that amazing run of crits get us lla? Did you create a character for the dice?

Yes. Until that point, she was a vague idea. When you rolled those dice, I decided to bring her in immediately as a !party bonus character! immediately, to participate in the rest of the battle. It also helped to set up the quest hook to get you down to Heavensgate...which never ended up happening, because you were captured and sent to the Ring City anyway.

You see, there were two main plot routes to freeing the shadow mages. One was your capture and jailbreak; the other route was taking it as a mission after meeting with Ila in Heavensgate.

>Even if you did I applaud you, she is honestly my favorite character in the quest besides maybe Fang, and I don’t want this to seem like I’m accusing you or anything.

Not at all.

>When a demon normally gets “killed” it gets banished back to the nether correct? But when we kill a demon are we consuming its existence?

Yes, when a demon is killed, it is returned to the nether.

When you consume a demon, you consume the magic shell that is keeping it in Venia's higher reality. The demon itself returns to the nether.

>Because it is clear that demons “exist” merely by how we resummoned Xelia and she had he memories and previous opinion of us and all that stuff.

Yes.

>So that discounts the theory that “summoning it just taking Nether and forcing it into a template” which it kind of is

Yep.

>but there appears to be more than we’re being told

Or there's more that people don't realize.
>>
>>30289082
Then why not use Adamantize on him?
>>
>>30289068
The equipment acts as an amplifier, it draws from the users own mana. If someone with no alignment tried to use an enchanted item, it would just be a regular item.

>>
>>30288532
Magically Inert people:
We haven’t really heard anything about them at all so far. Are they all just subject to being peasants? That doesn’t really seem to make much sense to me because strong people like Obis and (kind of) Flint don’t really use magic at all and rely on physical prowess and some enchantments. It seems like a Magically Inert person would have a lot of versatility in the types of enchanted armors and weapons they could wield and use. For example, Flint wouldn’t use a shadow or spirit typed shield because it would literally hurt him to touch it, But Joey on the other hand could have a Shadow shield, a Light sword, a Wind Cloak, and a Spirit Ring, etc, etc. It feels like if you’re a Melee fighter then having an Elemental Alignment is more harm than good. I’ve been wondering why we haven’t met any important people or at least skilled fighters who were magically unaligned when (from what I remember) like 50%-80% of people are completely unaligned and a good deal of Skilled Combat is Melee. This also means that Joey has the potential to surpass Flint. Lastly, is it possible for some who is born of two magically neutral parents to be aligned either way? This is important because if not, the magically aligned (and magically adept) subjugating the neutral would likely be a replacement for the Element vs Element conflict
>>
>>30289122

And that was how Shadow began the 'Unity Project', an attempt to breed a child capable of using all elements without self-destructing...
>>
Inquisitive Anon, this is starting to hold up the thread. Please save the rest of your questions until afterward so we can get going. I'd be happy to answer them all then.

>>30289178
Adamantized people cannot move, unless other magics or enchantments are assisting them.

Bottling Mana:
Reminder that Back when we were in Evinbrook and we Consulted an Alchemist about “Bottled Mana” he told us that that was above his paygrade and only done by more skilled mages and alchemists. We are now very close with a Very skilled Mage and possibly alchemist who more than likely has several bottles of the stuff laying around, and our Pocket is the perfect place to store them.
>>

>>
>>30289178
Adamantize petrifies normal humans forcing him to rely on the Windburn to stay mobile.

>>
>>30289174
SM please don't forget our mana regen, we'll need it. Also voting for Mind Crush.
>>
>>30289329
Let's do this
>>
>>30288532
>>30288581
HearthStone Titan:
Stride length of 20yards. Due to massive weight we shall use average stride length for walking because something like this most likely cannot propel itself off the ground in the sense of how we run (especially considering how it would shake itself apart by putting three times its own weight on each foot per stride). Assuming SM was using “stride” how I think we was as “distance between the two feet while walking” the average mans stride length is between 2.5-3 feet and the average height being 5ft 10in creates a rough estimate of half your height in stride (maybe a bit more but this is a golem so whatever). That leaves us with a forty yard tall (36.58 meters) (120feet) HearthStone Titan. Giving us a 10-11 story golem. And the Bots that are inside of it seem to be about 10-11feet tall consider SM said “They tower at least several feet above the largest humans you’ve seen." It also has a control room in its head and what seems like a "bay" in its torso/midsection for the Bots.

>>30289306
Just for you
>>
So Decay/Corrode + Adamantize + Mind Crush.

This should significantly weaken and slow him down without needing to engage him directly. Letting him burn himself out.
>>
>>30289411
we should get decimate since it saves us on mana and gets us closer to gravity control, plus its cheaper than the hearth stone titan.
>>
>>30289411
That's too much MP for one move. Decay/Corrode wouldn't be at full power so it might be best to just cut them out.
>>
>>30288532
>>30288581
And lastly a matching chart that I feel gives us a good advantage.

Matchups:
Assuming that we have to fight The Ring City tomorrow and Metatron somehow gets away and we cannot contact the Black Lady and Adavan is unavailable, I feel like this would be the best set up to confront them. We have a clear advantage in each category so this should minimize casualties.

1) Sandalphon vs Shadow + Fang
3) Metatron vs Arcturius
4) Raphael vs Gerard + Harvan
6) Anahita vs Vellik + Steward + Valleria
9) Gabriel vs Councilors Yong Xu and Tae Wong
10) Penemue vs Obis + Donny + Freja
11) Jophiel vs Vaz Grak + Great Tree + Young Bull
12) Charmeine vs Cain + lla (If not Cain, then Vidar or Hemmelus, but lla is stronk as fuck)
13) Qaphsiel vs Tyrael + Hamil (we may or may not have them, if not then Abby + Auriel for an easy win)

This still leaves Abby Fang, Vidar Blackwater, Hemmelus, Auriel, and Janus Miller to spread around. Though I don't think Janus is a fighter.

I tried to match things up with who would know how their partners would fight or enough battle experience to make up for the unfamiliarity. Once a group is done (if they are able) they would immediately move to aid someone near them in the strength chain. Also note that not all battles have to end in death, once we kill Sandalphon and Metatron surrender should come quickly, especially if we turn Raphael.

Oh, and we should probably jump in the Nemesis too.

And does the Ring City have any jumpable airships left?

Also take into account that this is not only the individual person but the forces under them aswell.

a whole lot cheaper and better than

>Erode - Reduce the target's physical attack for 3-5 turns. (4, 8, or 17 mana. Higher tiers increase effectiveness)

>Corrode - Reduce the target's physical defense for 3-5 turns. (4, 8, or 17 mana. Higher tiers increase effectiveness)

>Decay - Reduce the target's magical attack power for 3-5 turns. (5, 11, or 22 mana. Higher tiers increased effectiveness)

>>30289765

So when we finally Chosen Abagail and lla. What trees should we give them?

I support giving Abby our Earth tree simply because it is not only stacked as fuck, but it has HearthStone Titan, which is a nation building tool like a motherfucker.

And I say we give lla our shadow magic tree because it too is stacked as fuck. Plus it would make her second only to the Black Lady as far as human shadow mages go.
>>
>>30289765
And the windburn wasn't already? Metatron already sensed that blast go off, so he knows that shit is going down hard enough to force a Flint to use their big guns.

I think we can only have one Chosen.
>>
>>30289765
If we're worried about him detecting something wrong from powerful magic, I'm pretty sure the Windburn is more than enough on that front.

That said, given the power of the spell below, it's almost certain that the sigil is heavily shielded so that there was no risk of anyone noticing it.

>Dreaming about a quest
Such reckless faggotry! What can one do to stop it?

You've got to take advantage of this opportunity while you can. His magic is too strong to dispell outright - but maybe you can weaken it!

Your Decay spins, and fires. Brown daggers of light highlighted in black shadow shoot at Matthel's back as he runs down the hall.

>mana: 14/58

Wind rises automatically to greet the blow, a thousand green needles coming to his defense - but rather than fight the magic, your hail of shadow-stained earth clots onto the Windburn like mud. The needles flare and stab relentlessly, but the brown earth is a flexible mush that bends and tamps down the swirling Wind. You feel a sharp drop in Matthel's power.

Sensing the magic, Matthel begins to spin, his sword coming in a tight spin. You rush him at full sprint, arms wide for a tackle. You cross the distance in a heartbeat, but his reaction time has been boosted by his magic!

He slows. Then you see it - the hallway's too narrow, and the tip of his sword swing is grinding through the stone. With his magic lessened, he can't cut through it! You slam into his chest, blowing him off his feet, and tumble over and over into the next intersection of hallways. His sword flies off and clatters into the darkness. You wind up on top of him.

Matthel grits his teeth, grunts, and Wind flares again! The brown Decay staining his aura is disintegrating rapidly...just holding him hurts!

>you've taken 3 damage
>you've regenerated 3 damage (no HP change)

What do you do?

>submission hold
>beat him senseless
>repeat Decay

The needling Wind is rapidly ramping up from a stinging pain to piercing agony. Still astride Matthel, you cast Adamantize on yourself. Immediately, the pain deadens to an uncomfortable prickle.

>mana: 9/58
>mana: 10/58 (regen)

The Wind around Matthel continues to build. You snake your arm around his neck and brace it hard, attempting to knock him unconscious. His gauntlets grip your forearms, struggling, but it's like he's trying to hold water - your flesh simply wavers away.

Matthel coughs, sputters. You increase the pressure. His face is turning red. The magic continues to build.

Wind explodes under you. You're blown into the ceiling, and when you fall, a ton of rock falls with you. Your magic armor takes the majority of the blow for you, and you have enough sense to Ink between the falling chunks of stone, ending up buried at the bottom of the pile, but not crushed.

>you've taken 10 damage (54/81)
>you've regenerated 4 HP (58/81)
>you've regenerated 1 mana (11/58)

You slide out between the rocks as quickly as you can, a snake of shadow. Out of the rubble, you reform into your normal state.

Matthel is already a dozen yards away, his hand wedged into the wall. The stone there is sliding apart. That's the entrance to the elevator! He stares at you as you reform, mouth agape.

The stone doorway thumps open. His head snaps back to the tunnel. He takes a deep breath, as if to shout. Wind forms around his mouth.

Stop him!

"HIGH - "

Your hardened exterior pierces his shell of Wind and catches his armored collar straight on, clotheslining him. He's sent down to the stone so hard he bounces back up, hits a wall, and then falls on his back again.

You glance at the open stone door.

Nothing happens.

You heave a sigh.

Choking noises grab your attention. You turn back to Matthel. He's a turtle on the ground, shivering, twitching. His hands clutch at his throat. He's bleeding where his ripped armor has cut his skin, but it's not much. Why is he so...

You've crushed his throat.

What do you do?

>Try to heal him immediately; take no risks. You're here to subdue him, not kill him. You can talk him out of this.
>You've probably got a minute or two. Pocket him while he's weakened, take him back upstairs where he can be better restrained.

You use Shadow Control. While he can't move, you keep a cautious distance and Heal his throat.

Your magic washes over him. The ugly bend in his throat cracks straight. The cut flesh knits itself. You slacken the Control over his lungs just slightly, and he heaves in his breaths, sucking in the dank tunnel air.

"Matthel. I wasn't trying to kill you. Sandalphon was lying to you - he was using you. Using you against your brother. You're a good man. You don't have to be his tool." You check your Control over him, just to be sure. He's not struggling. His eyes are fixed on you. "...Donovan's life was ruined by this. But the sacrifice isn't worth it. In the end, the shel'kath will kill him."

It will probably take more than that to clear the air, but at least it was a start.

Matthel's mouth twitches slightly, and he grunts. Looks like he's trying to say something.

What do you do?

"...wait a moment," you tell him. "I'll hear you out."

You use your Control to march Matthel ahead of you through the halls. It's a simply matter for you to clear the rubble. You can lift a few stones. And then you're back in a sort of main corridor, a bit less damp than the others. You pass over the ruined door leading into the cathedral and enter the bottom of the long stairwell.

It is only then that you slacken control over his head. "Alright. You had something to say?"

"Yeah," Matthel says. "GO BACK TO THE NETHER, YOU FUCKING MONSTER!"

"HIGHEST, THE ANCHOR!!"

A blast of wind accompanies his words. A terrible green echo reverberates back down into the catacombs and soars up the stairwell. You calm down on Matthel with your Shadow Control, stopping him from breaking free.

"The hell was that?!"

"Matthel! Mattel!"

You hear footsteps on the stairs. That was Arcturis's voice, and Donovan. You can feel them, four of them - Adavan isn't with them. Yi Fang seems to be holding position at the top of the stairs, his power somewhat lessened.

Your allies reach the bottom of the stairs - Arcturis, Donovan, Hemmelus. "John!" Hemmelus shouts. "What's going on?"

You glance at Matthel. "I shouldn't have let him speak. I thought I'd talked him down. He used that shout to warn Metatron!"

"Shit." Arcturis walks up and punches his son in the face, hard. Due to your Shadow Control, he can't move, and he takes the blow full on. A red splotch blossoms on his cheek. "You IDIOT!" He grabs his son by the collar. "What the hell is the anchor?!"

Matthel's face is expressionless. He sags, not fighting your grip in the slightest. It seems that was the last of his energy. "...the spell is anchored here, but that anchor can be moved. The sigil will be safe elsewhere."

Hemmelus stares at the floorboards. "...why can't I sense it? It makes no sense!"

"They found the cave and set up a powerful barrier before moving the spell here," Matthel says. "It had to be on site for Donovan. They were afraid you would sense the shel'kath, great sage, and didn't want to risk linking themselves to its appearance. The spell powering each segment begins by attaching the shel'kath, and ends upon detaching it. So..." Matthel looks at Donovan. "They were going to take you down tomorrow to finish things, but I suppose this will put it off a while. They need you, after all."

"...why...why are you doing this?" Donovan says. "What is wrong with you?!"

"John and Fang are lying," Matthel says simply. "Use your head, Donovan. A powerful mage like John just pops out of the woodwork, and strangely, at his back, gathering the nations, is the Archmage Yi Fang? Archon has made contact with Vampiria, and they've joined forces."

"Have you any proof?" Arcturis asks.

"Their guise of friendship is proof enough."

"That's not true," Donovan says. "It's impossible."

"Oh?" Matthel says. "Then you expect me to believe that John here is just naturally talented? I was using the WINDBURN!" Matthel rails against your Shadow Control, his muscles clenching hard. "Granted...I'm not as skilled with it as Gerald. But he shouldn't have been able to stop me. No one short of an angel could do that. He's had extensive training from the best of the best. He is an agent of subversion! The Highest is not lying, Donovan, you will not be sacrificed! That's why it was done when you were young, to build power over time, so as not to endanger you!"

"Ha!" Matthel strains against his bindings. "It fits, doesn't it!"

"John didn't lie, but he isn't from Vampiria!" Donovan says.

"Then what? Who is he?!"

Donovan hesitates. He looks at you. You both know the truth. You can't say it.

"You have no answer!" Matthel calls. His face is triumphant. "You know what I say rings true!"

"We can debate this later," Arcturis says. He looks at you. "And we will debate it later."

"Hemmelus," Matthel says. "Listen to reason. You know I'm telling the truth. Sandalphon would not endanger relations with Arland by putting Donovan at risk. We are his greatest ally."

Hemmelus raises an eyebrow. "There's a hole in your logic."

"...what do you mean?"

"If there was no harm to be done," Hemmelus says, "then why bother keeping it a secret? Unless there's something more. Something he isn't telling us, that if we found out, might motivate us to stop him. You're just using John as a scapegoat."

"Dammit, that's - "

"We don't have time for this!" Hemmelus shouts. "We've got to stop the Highest."

None of these people have ever even seen a piece of moonsong, let alone seen it in action enough to be able to draw any similarities between the two.

The secret is more or less out at this point - they know we're not just a shadow mage and it's only a matter of time before Donovan cracks and tells him we're a sentient Shadow Elemental.

Our only hope is to speed through negotiations before it's common knowledge that we're Erebus, or the alliance is totally fucked.

What if Dave was created by Erebus putting him in his Pocket before the mutual annihilation event. Then he just went crazy and Eventually used his crazy strength to bust out and into the Nether.
>>
You step up to Matthel and grasp hold of him. "I'll put him in a safe place."

Matthel vanishes, transported into your pocket.

"What?" Arcturis glances around. "What did you do?"

"He's safe, and secure" Donovan says. "No time to explain."

"Donovan, you get back upstairs, tell Fang to call for reinforcements," you say. "Knowing him, I hope he already has." Donovan nods and takes off up the stairs. "Alright. While I was in the chamber, I set my own anchor. I can teleport us directly in from the ceiling of the cavern."

Arcturis thumps his fist to his palm. "Get the drop on him. Good."

"Here." Hemmelus tosses you a vial. A crystal clear liquid is inside. It looks like water, but it's much more viscous. It seems...alive. Struggling to get out. "Edible mana. Tastes horrid, but it works."

You pop the cork and down it without question. It feels like it slithers down your throat. The aftertaste is like rotten fruit. But you immediately feel revitalized.

So. Now that we've got allies, can we actually utilize combined tactics for once?

For that matter, what can Arcturis do?

Hemmelus nods. "Metatron doesn't have Lucifer's speed, or Sandalphon's pure strength, but his armor makes up for his weaknesses. He uses spells centered on his person to wear down his enemies while simply shrugging off their attacks. I'm not surprised Sandalphon picked him for this job. In an enclosed space like this..." Hemmelus's lips go thin. "We will be severely disadvantaged. But we have options."

Hemmelus offers you several strategies.

>note: this particular exchange was comic book time

>Hemmelus will focus on negating Metatron's area attacks, while Arcturis tries to puncture his defenses. You hang back and strike when the moment is right. This strategy will take more time, but has a higher chance of winning. He notes that you'll have to stay close enough to Metatron to be in range.
>You and Arcturis immediately strike Metatron with your strongest abilities, attempting to disable him. Hemmelus heals as needed. However, he doubts he can heal fast enough to make up for Metatron's strength; you'll win quickly, or not at all.
>You and Hemmelus play supporting roles, assisting Arcturis and impeding Metatron while Arcturis attacks. You'll be least exposed with this strategy, hiding in the river where you can regenerate, but it could take more time than you ave.

That's all well and good, but we already fucked up and took a huge time penalty.

Shadow uses armour piercing abilities and then switches to all out offence

Arcturis rips and tears

Hemmelus focuses on negating Metatron's attacks
>>

Alright, then. How's this for a technically true cover story?

"I am the product of an experiment that myself and Ellendra Kalladar cobbled together in order to combat the spreading Chaos of magic and protect Venia. [Order and Chaos explanation and the true nature of Shadow magic goes here]. The process resulted in me losing my memories and while I know some of who I am from what little Ellandra knew of me, the majority of my past is a mystery."
>>
>>30293627
We could go with option 1, but open with decay and then corrode, in order to weaken Metatron while Arcturius gets a solid foothold in the battle.

ZERG RUSH
>>
>>30293627
Ok. Metatron is Fire + Light.

Which makes me think that Dark Blizzard would counter his magic fairly well. It's AoE Shadow + Water, so it would nullify his AoE Light + Fire.

But then I'm worried about it hitting Hemmy and Arcturius.

We could also attempt to box him in with an earthforge, and then summon a wisp and erect a shadow totem, then also pepper him at range with our own spells.
>>
>>30293810

Agree 100% with this. It lets Hemmelus and Arcturis do their best work and we can chisel him down quickly.
>>
>>30293810
Neither of those are quick enough.
>>
>>30293779
Can we request an Anti-Light/Fire barrier from Hummels to help tank damage?
>>

Let's think of cover stories after the battle that shows them what we can do.

>>30293779
I think I'll second this, since I really don't want Hemmelus or Arcturis to take a hit from Metatron.
>>
>>30293284
>>30293328
If we have to explain more about our origins and we're still in Hemmelus lie-detector mode, we should probably explain that one of the first things we can recall was our being independent, living in solitude in the far north, and that, of our own accord, we came to the assistance of Queen Ellendra Kalladar while she was on a mission. And without her help, we would not be where we are today.

The elves are notoriously anti-Vampiria because of their sea borders, which goes a way to calming them down on the OH GOD HE'S AN AGENT OF VAMPIRIA panic.

>>30293627
>Hemmelus will focus on negating Metatron's area attacks, while Arcturis tries to puncture his defenses. You hang back and strike when the moment is right. This strategy will take more time, but has a higher chance of winning. He notes that you'll have to stay close enough to Metatron to be in range.

Hemmelus should focus on assisting Arcturus for the most part, I think.

I can't imagine Arcturis has better armor-piercing capabilities than we do, so we should focus on debuffs first rather than just jumping in with melee. Having us both do more damage slightly later is better than leaving him mostly intact.

We should be treating ourselves more like an off-tank rather than trying to hang back and wait for openings, though.
>>
>>30293627
Option 2.

But open up with decay and corrode until his armour is dust. If we can pierce his shell, we'll have a huge advantage.

Decay, Corrode, spam physical attacks + Hammer.

Hemmelus can heal or negate attacks. Doesn't really matter, since the goal is for Metatron to die incredibly quickly.

Arcturis can use the windburn to deal massive damage.
>>
>>30293855

It won't matter if we lose the fight, anon.
>>
>>30293779
How about we go with this, but go full Hammer, Darkness Within with our tank duty.

Basically, zerk tank the guy and wittle him down as fast as possible for Arcturus to finish him off in time.

>All-out attack alongside Arcturis while Hemmelus does his best to keep you alive.

Vote 3:
>Long haul, more stable strategy. Work with Hemmelus to turn the battlefield to your advantage while Arcturis does the dirty work.

Remember that this is just a general strategy - it's more to dictate how your allies will behave. You can open with/use whatever attacks you'd like as the battle progresses.

This challenge was designed to be difficult from the beginning. With your time penalty, the odds ARE against you. This will probably be the most difficult fight in Shadow Quest to date. Choose carefully.

It could have been worse

We could have gone with the high-risk, bet everything on the first roll, plan.

So I just realized that earlier we should have just stayed behind and gotten the drop on Metatron. Maybe open up with schattenkrieg, flatten him with hammer, shadow domination, and then CONSUME. It would have been fast and furious, and made our job a hell of a lot easier.

Leaving Flint with a half-explanation and us facing Metatron alone. Geeeeee. Great thinking pal!

I haven't read nearly enough of the month-ongoing dead space/mass effect cross over fiction threads for my brain to be as melted as that, oh bearer of the void.
>>
>>30294823
Nah, we were doing alright until we let Matthel talk.

Not only are we on a time limit, he also destroyed our trump card.
>>
>>30294823

Uh, I really disagree.

Fighting him solo would have been a really, really bad idea.

Best possible scenario was that we teleport down there with our full squad, after preventing Matthel from warning him.
>>
>>30294626
Can we boost our spell with a shard?
>>

We could use Maker.
