Alright, like I said in the last thread, I'm still preferring Suiryu. It's short and simple, and doesn't give away the fact that the sword also does fire, which could be a nasty surprise to people only expecting water from the name.
    >> OP 09/24/11(Sat)20:18 No.16413105
Whilst you guys decide upon a name, and I think we'll start a vote for it, let's also turn our attention to the Perk and 5 Skill Points we earned. Also, since it's not in the rules or in the previous posts, you can't put more than 2 points in a single skill per mission completion. Doesn't make sense to go from novice to master in an afternoon.
    >> aon 09/24/11(Sat)20:24 No.16413150
one skill point in, shinobi movement and great swordan. Two points in Taijutsu and one point in genjutsu knowledge. Perk water clone mastery, increasing the effectiveness.

    Right, the skill points.
Since Greatsword is maxed out already, here's my list of recommendations:
    1 Shinobi Movement
    1 Water Style Talent
    1 Genjutsu Knowledge
    1 Taijutsu Knowledge
1 Poison Familiarity (since people want to go for the Poison Mist route)
    >> OP 09/24/11(Sat)20:28 No.16413181

Can't just acquire poison familiarity. We need to be introduced to it or at least taught it past the most basic Academy level.

For skill points, I think specialization helps more than being a generalist, in the short term at least. Have we used Water Style Talent for anything? If that is what is fueling our water techniques, then yeah, lets go for it. I'm torn between feeling we can't catch up on Genjutsu and that our Taijutsu knowledge is sufficient.

That said, Genjutsu is a major weakness, and Taijutsu is a major strength.

    So, I say:
    1 Shinobi Movement
    2 Genjutsu Knowledge
    2 Taijutsu Knowledge

Of course, if these things don't do what I think they do, then disregard.
    >> OP 09/24/11(Sat)20:35 No.16413239
    >>16413189

Mastery is for Jutsu only, pretty sure I wasn't clear on that in the sourcebook. We're working out the bugs.

    Anyway, any other perk ideas?
    >> Anonymous 09/24/11(Sat)20:35 No.16413241
    >>16413181
And Greatsword Use is maxed out, right?
    Alternate skill-up:
    1 Shinobi Movement
    1 Water Style Talent
    1 Genjutsu Knowledge
    1 Taijutsu Knowledge
    1 Ninjutsu Knowledge

Also, what do we know about the Jonin Exam?

Can we take a Signature Jutsu on the water dragon to let us chop a guy in half and form one out of his blood to attack his allies?

Or would we have to take Mastery on that too?

I mean, every mission we've been on, we chopped some guy in half and wanted to off a few more, so it couldn't hurt, could it?

Knowledge of the Jonin Exam, unlike the Chunin Exam, is closely and jealously guarded information. The proctors are changed every year and have their memories erased of the test, as do the participants, who only remember the ceremony promoting them. The village takes its Jonin very very seriously.

That's certainly within the grounds of possibility. Though controlling blood seems quite difficult. I would suggest making it a Special Ability to use blood instead of water for jutsu. Could lead to some really interesting and gory fights.

    >>16413322
Yeah, but consider our fighting style. When have we ever run out of blood?

Although being able to use blood instead of water in general would be much more stylish. Can we take that as our perk?
    >> OP 09/24/11(Sat)20:54 No.16413391
    >>16413352

Sadly no. That kind of major overhaul is beyond the scope of Perks. Sadly that's gonna have to be a Special Ability, probably our Jonin one. Also, fun note, we can respec our earlier Special Abilities if we want when we turn Jonin as a way of representing our evolution as a more complete shinobi.

I'd be happy to help you craft a Perk to suit that. Something to represent our bloodthirstiness is very reasonable.

We could take a reputation for it. But I think you're talking about something that racks up in power or activates as we get kills? I made a Frenzy Perk for Kiba and his mother when I first drafted the system but it was cut. We can modify it though.

Blood Hunger: Whenever you kill an enemy you can refresh a point of chakra for each kill you have performed during that combat.

My suggestion for a name is Suiseiken, with Suisei being Mercury (the planet). It's written as 'water star'. I like it because water (derp), stars are neat (herp), and Mercury is close to the sun (fire). Also, Mercury has mythological association with speed, which I dig. Of course, there may not even be a planet Mercury or any Greco-Roman mythology in-universe, which makes it a bit meta. But even so, I think it's a good name on its own with only the literal character meanings, water star sword.

    Yep, I like Suiseiken.

After you get a bit more rest you and Kisame head back out to the water again, this time with a medic close at hand. Additionally as you are getting ready Kisame stops and calls out, "Raiga! Come here, I want you to meet someone!" With a scowl Raiga comes across the water and nods his head, "Who is this?" He asks shortly and faces you, Kisame chuckles, "Why in such a sour mood, Raiga?" The man scowls again and Kisame just keeps laughing, "This is Shimaru Yamada. He's an Aspirant." Raiga bows his head to you, "Nice to meet you Yamada-san, good luck in training." he says and turns before Kisame grips his shoulders, "Why don't you have a round with him? I'm sure he'll find your particular skillset challenging."

I'll do my best for you.

We're Shimaru Yamada. We're a Mist Chunin who regularly bites off more than he can chew and chokes it down. We are a swordsman and a bisector of human anatomy. Recently we took place in a brawl against 5 of Konoha's best shinobi and walked away unscathed. Now we're training to become a Jonin under the tutelage of Kisame, our special and newly forged sword in hand. Our favorite powers include water clones, hidden mist, and our new steam-buzzsaw blade.

We proved useful by taking out a group of three enemies almost single handedly and helped fight off, Itachi, Kakashi and the adult ino-shika-cho trio. We are now training with Kisame the monster of Mist for the upcoming Jonin exam in which we intend to rank up so as to eventually become one of the Seven swordsmen of the mist.

You do your morning rituals and head to the water where Kisame is standing tall and waiting, looking just as healthy as he did yesterday, the hangover apparently not an issue for him. "Good morning, kohai! Let's get to training! Remember, today is the last time I'm training you until the day before your exam, tomorrow I'm passing you off to Kaji-san." He said and raised his sword, letting you get ready and joining you in battle.

The entire day is spent drilling, practicing, and mostly sparring. At the end of the day you and he are both surprisingly tired. Each time one you hits the other it almost seems like it's going to be the last time you breathe, but inevitably you pull the blow from being lethal, a true test of your friendship.

(Perk, Bond (Kisame Hoshigaki) lost. Perk, Strong Bond (Kisame Hoshigaki) achieved.)

You now sit together on the wall around the village, eating a bowl of hot noodles as you watch the waves. Kisame looks at you, "Shimaru-kun, are you worried about this Jonin test?"

He said and grips your hand in a handshake before leaving with a shark-toothed smile, "Stay honest." He says and he falls apart in a puddle of water.

In your hand is a small piece of paper which he stuck to the palm of your hand with his chakra. It's not safe to read it here, but either beyond the village or in a sensing-proof area should be safe. The cabin you used to stage your A-Ranked Mission should be a good point.

However, I am not sure of their true intentions. Despite this, I am taking a solo mission to give you some freedom from observation. I want you to do well, little brother. Without another second to waste you plunge into the food and slam it back as quickly as you can, drinking and consuming as much as quickly as possible. Kaji laughs and starts humming a gentle song to himself, a traditional song that is supposed to aid in the digestion.

Your training with Kaji goes very well and even though you were in martial arts combat today you were able to react to genjutsu and dispel it without being too beaten up.

Immediately after you hustled over to Gen's where he led you out to a marsh, night already having fallen. You were to dodge, deflect, and avoid his attacks all without using your chakra sensing as Gen made three clones of himself and armed them each with one hundred kunai.

An hour later you collapse onto the ground on your backside from tiredness, but you did excellently, only a single kunai ever came close and it just grazed your cheek. Gen walks over to you and puts a hand on your shoulder, giving you a smile and saying, "You know, Shimaru, I'm glad it was you." He said before walking away.

While I'd prefer the two-man bro team, I'd be willing to stay with Mist too. Mostly because our Mist team would bear more resemblance to a normal party, which would be better for playtesting purposes. I'm assuming that (if anyone actually uses this system somewhere other than these quest threads) a normal party won't have someone like Kisame around to whack their enemies with.

Finding the target would be very hard and with your budget of time, it would be unreasonable to try and find him. However, there is something that you can do. There's a festival in town a few miles from the village, and there's a casino there. Perhaps a little luck could give you what you need?

Yeah, let's go to the casino and gamble a bit. Bring only 50 Ryo with us, so we don't accidentally end up losing more than we can afford to lose.

This could be a character trait of Shima's: he knows that realistically, dice rolls (that aren't rigged and whose dice are balanced) are random, but he still has a habit of believing in 'good dice' and 'bad dice'.

So it's off to the shoreline to smash rocks apart with our sword and chakra style. Of course, we're going to need Gen, who is all to happy to come down and instruct you on the art of Fuujutsu. "Even more mentally demanding than Genjutsu is the art of sealing. A seal-master must be able to access a situation from top to bottom and see all parts of all things. Yes, it's easy to lock a body up tight, but it's much more artful and more effective to run a paralyzing shock through the ground up their nervous system and seal their mind, or better yet, their heart." Gen said with a smile as he looks at your huge sword, "But, then again, you just want to learn how to make your blade flicker in combat to make your swing lighter." He says flatly, "Oh well. It's an art, even if I think it's a silly use for it." He then instructs you the whole afternoon on how to control your chakra in small but tempered bursts to allow for the finite control you want. Though you can move your chakra like that, using it in combat will be extremely hard.

(Out of the 4 skill points you will receive, 1 is going to Fuujutsu Knowledge, right now.)

Night has fallen and he congratulates you on your job well done, "It's hard to be a user of Fuujutsu, but some of the most powerful shinobi of all time have been this way. I hope it appeals to you in more ways than just a simple vanishing act."

"Passed the Exam. Given first mission, and I want you on the team. Participation is voluntary. I won't lie: it's extremely dangerous. A-rank at minimum."

Seek out our two Chunin friends. Ask if they want to join our suicide mission.

Its not just him that we have to worry about. We also have to consider that fact that members of Akatsuki work in teams of 2. Whomever Kisame is partnered with(I'm assuming not with Itachi seeing as he's still with the Leaf) could potentially be just as if not more powerful than he is.

Such is a life of jonin. Also, because of our rank we get to roll 4+ dice for every action. Yay, more cleaving!
    >>16418583
Can we boost our ability scores for extra points, or this is only on jonin-character generation?

Depends if he's been able to join up with them yet, or if he met with the Akatsuki member who'll be his partner.

Could be that if we move quickly we can intercept him, so we need to move fast. Also we should grab our stuff in case we haven't yet.

We need to move as quickly as possible then. Killing him alone is going to be hard enough.

We should check the roster for our other ally, I don't think our study buddie would be the best option.

Gen nods, "I accept, let me just get my scrolls. I've been writing a massive one, I was feeling something might be up soon, these are tumultuous times." he says and returns with a huge rig of scrolls and a massive scroll across his lower back. "Alright, I'm ready. Who else is joining us? Or are we duoing on this one?"

Right, so we need to see who we can pull out from the chuunin available to us.
We're getting Gen because he can put out a massive amount of damage if we can get him to set up a Stormfront.
But who to get as the other?
We're going to need to work as a team, and should think about fitting slots in the formation.

We're Melee Specialist and Sensor, and Gen can be Tactician and Ranged. A Medic would be useful.

    Well, we obviously need Aya.
Strong point of Kisame is mostrous ammount of chakra, weak point is a weakness to genjutsu (Samehada negates this though, but Gen can pretty much seal his sword or something).
As Aya should have done some solo missions now, she can get a medical ninjutsu knowledge skill, and chakra manipulation skill.
