Nod, and hold the sword in both hands, bowing to Sempai. Squeeze the blade and try to relax it if we can. Also, look in awe and don't fangasm too much.

Stand in the back, and watch everyone carefully.

Pay attention to Samehada to make sure it's not trying to leech our chakra, and maybe actively sense its chakra to see if there is anything different about it.

No, we shouldn't do that. First, holding the blade like that is generally not how blades are handled.
And second, WE'RE the intermediary, we're supposed to be right up there facing Kisame.

We're going to damn well keep hold of that blade for him, no-one but him and us touch that thing.

Even after all this Kisame is such a bro.

Actually, this could be a setup for possession, and he wanted us armed, though a long shot considering the odds against us were something like that to happen. I don't know what other kind of precautions we could take though.

To your senses the Samehada is rather relaxed in your grip and seems to welcome you holding it.

Kisame clears his throat, "I am the leader of the Akatsuki. I am speaking through Hoshigaki Kisame, one of my Ten Dawnbringers. He speaks to you as I speak to him." Kisame says, though his eyes unfocus as he remembers and recalls this perfectly, "I have a vision of a united world, a land where the wars of the Hidden Villages do not rend the land apart and crush those who fall under their boots. I wish for your Hidden Villages to give me your contracts, to give me your missions, and allow my shinobi to undertake them."

Let's go straight to business. No reason to beat around the bush.

"What of the shinobi still in the villages? How are the Hidden Villages to make their own livings with this set-up?"

If we're not totally against the Akatsuki Plan as a whole, I say we should try and steer dealings towards a steady gradual change from Village to Akatsuki rather than a sudden total one.

Well, we've felt it writhe and react to us while we've held it, I believe Kisame has also mentioned that Samehada is partly alive as well, we should have an idea that there's more to Samehada than just a sword.

Anyway, while we wait for the Kage's words we should probably focus on comforting Samehada, it's probably fairly upset at being away from Kisame.

Your comments are allowed to be spoken as the Kages are simply here as officials to make sure you are representing them correctly.

"The Villages will all be paid a portion of the profits to maintain themselves. Akatsuki is not trying to dominate the world, we are trying to integrate the world, together. All villages will be paid monthly to maintain themselves, and with all supplies and training handled by Akatsuki, save for training the Villages wishes to impart, their costs will see a steep decline." He says and the Hokage speaks.

"How will you encourage the more belligerent nations to go along with you? The Cloud Village will never surrender their sovereignty to you." He says and Kisame nods, "I am aware of that. Each village is a unique entity and will be handled separately. For example, Kirigakure is a nation of trade, so we will put great efforts towards improving and protecting the shipping lanes, as well as putting more trade through Kiri docks to increase their income."

"Also, what about the Lands themselves? If all shinobi are under your employ, how would missions with conflicting interests be handled?

"You say to Give You our contracts and missions, so Your shinobi could undertake them. You mean to have yourself as the ruler above all others. How can we trust you in such a position? "

Thinking about Samehada so much, it is a kind of shark creature... sort of maybe? At least the full fusion with Kisame supports that, and I wouldn't be surprised if full compatibility required the shark pact.

That's a kind of useless question; he's not going to say 'you can't' and he's not going to give us any reasons we'd go along with. What we need to do is hone in on less thought-out areas and intelligently prise-apart his plan.

"So, you obtain all of the village contracts. Your shinobi create a monopoly on war, with countries all sharing the same military. It would not be long before, under popular demand of the peasantry whom you've been so kind to, the military organized things so they fall under one government. Yours. Does this sound about right?"
    >> Anonymous 10/04/11(Tue)17:57 No.16521480
    >>16521213
Eh, I pretty much agree with the stated philosophy, I suggested as much for Shimaru before, though with less dictatorship. Less war would mean less shinobi work, that's just a fact, but can our stance really be anti-peace? Perhaps the shinobi become the army to spread Akatsuki rule further, but it has to end somewhere. Is split blood required to be considered prosperous, or even strong? Gen and Aya show that some ninja are willing to work non-combat jobs, and though constant war obviously feeds it, it isn't necessary for a martial tradition. Shinobi become guards, police, SWAT. Ninjutsu primarily becomes a science for technological advancement.

The question is, why shouldn't Pain lead? Yeah, he isn't going to tell us outright. So... what have we got?

"How exactly do you intend to unite the world? You assault the Mist, Leaf, and Stone, but have not until now opened dialogue to share your dream. You hope to hold a knife to our necks and wait for someone to acquiesce, then move your efforts on to the next? It sounds like you start war in hopes of ending war."

We absolutely CAN stand in the way of peace if this is how he offers it: Through the ninja equivalent of a corporate takeover. And lemme tell ya, monopoly's on markets tend to do bad things for price and fairness. If there's no 'other' to go against, a group becomes fractious. People will turn on this new government as they will be the only 'force' around, and the government will have to either clamp down on it however best they can, or cede power.

And does this Leader fellow seem the kind to cede power to you?

The urrent system is not perfect. But he's asking for change at a speed and on a level that outstrips current social evolution, and he will fail badly for it if he wishes for a 'happy' peace rather than a hostile one. It's naive...and we should tell him as much, when it comes down to it.

Realistically, the only way to get people to accept a shinobi federation in a very short period of time, is if it becomes essential to their survival. If an outside power, like Akatsuki, threatened everyone with destruction unless they all banded together. Even then such an alliance may quickly fall apart, but in the short term that's probably the best method.

I'd like to think that this was Madara's secret plan all along- to unite the Shinobi world by putting himself in opposition.

What is this Leader planning for? He wouldn't want to unite the nation's armies like this unless he was trying to prepare for something.

There may be no real external threat. It could just be a boogieman used to scare the shinobi nations into cowering under Akatsuki's umbrella.
Don't assume that there's a real threat, when an imaginary one is good enough for the opposition's purposes.

Going back to trusting him as a sole governor and following this vein.
    >>16521480
"You have treated the Sand with a kinder touch; perhaps they will elect to give you rule, and you can prove your virtue and ability to lead. In the mean time, peace between leaf and mist does not seem so unattainable."

Just as its own question, "Why should all the land be ruled by an individual? So much power, such much responsibility, so many peoples' cares to attend. Even given peace, why should you hold everyone's well being in your hand?"

If he was to compare his sole rulership to having a Kage we've got a great little anecdote. "Not every Kage is great. Sometimes a Kage's decisions destroy the unity of his domain, and the only way to end his reign is to end his life. We do not know you, and you have given us little reason to trust you. Why would we trust your rulership?"

Alrigth, one of the guys that I had at my group's table was a lguy named Brad. He was a little bit of a dick most of the time but he was cool. He had a bit of a Hell-heaven fetish, everything he played had a connection to Satan and God and so on. He also had the worst fashion sense I've ever read.

His characters name was Brad, a big suprise. He was the last of his clan and villiage that had been wiped out by Brads own hand at the tender age of 5. This wasn't Brad's fault though, see; he had the King of Hell sealed away inside of his body, along with the Queen of Heaven. Sadly, the King was the stronger of the two, or more agressive and was able to possess Brad's body and make him do evil things; like wipe out his village. He was an emotionless robot that barely had any human interaction skills whatsoever, and everyone hated him because he was SO smart and good looking. He had a ring blade like that one girl from soul calibur made out of diomands, kuni made from sapphires, and a katana with a gem encrusted blade. He wore gem covered armor, a red mink coat, gem plated gloves, and lots more bling and fur.

He also had somethign called the kamigan, the ultimate eye ability. the muscles of his chest were in the form of a upsidown pentagon. Many of his jutsu's revolved around hellfire, death and destruction on a massive scale. And necromancy at some point. Eventually he also learned how to use the Queen side of his abilities and heal others and stuff. He also learned how to summon a dragon.

Another person's character was a rip off of the main guy from Yu Yu hakusho; had this gun finger thing. They weren't of the Hyuuga clan, infact not even from the same village. I think they were playing a cloud ninja or something, whatever. The point is that they had found a special scroll hidden away somewhere outside the village that was a detailed account of the Byakugan and chakra points and so on. And this guy says cool, I'm going to master it! And so combines his knowledge of air chakra with what he's learning from the scroll and learns how to shoot chakra out of the chakra points like a bullet and had some chakra paralyzing abilities and so on.

I suppose I am no better, I had a taijutsu character that was like this. I said that his clan and the Hyuuga clan were closely related or something along those lines; his clan didn't have the eye abilities but had the chakra knowledge of the clan. While they had a more soft style of batteling, his clan had a more aggressive battle style. They basically had explouding punches and kicks. I thought it would be cool.

Another had a chracter that was just Water Gaara. Literally, carried around a jug full of water and had a demon sealed inside of her. Horrible backstory, nobody loved her. Orphan.... Blah blah blah. Looking for her twin brother who also had a water demon sealied inside of him who went missing after killing like half of the mist villiages entire population. Constantly crying about anything that went her way and anytime someone tried to hurt her she'd break down and start sobbing. Also had a psyco-demon side that would murder everything that came too close, seemed to be insane. Got drunk and tried to bang one of my dudes. No -not happening. So she killed him.

Because he was an emotionless monster who murdered for fun. Seriously, he killed and destroyed things for what little pleasure he could get.

Another character of mine came from a family of earth-jutsu users. Like, that was what they were skilled at and had passed down a few unique jutsu despite not being something like a clan But sadly something bad happened and he had to have one of his bones replaced with a metal rod. This metal-rod ended up doing an unusual thing to his chakra, granting him magnetic powers and lightening abilities. Also he used hook-swords in combat, because I thought they were cool.

And then there was a medic-nin who had an ability to see blood, like the hyuuga clan but with veins. And his clan's blood was acidic and they could contol it like water. Idolized Hidan and wanted to be just like him and kept making an ass of himself no matter what. And was also like, a wanabe satanist and compiled Satanism and Jashin together who his character worshipped. And said that his eye ability aloud him to see people naked and would do so around any girl with a pulse.
    >> Anonymous 10/04/11(Tue)20:09 No.16522814
And then there was another character who had dimensional-portal jutsu and was invinsible. Nothing could stop this person from destroying anything. NOTHING, they'd just teleport away or teleport the oncoming jutus into the body of the person they're fighting. How do you like that Chidori inside your ribcage? Or they'd go back in time and kill you while you where a baby. Immune to genjutsu and skilled in every type of ninjutsu and weapon imaginable. Slept with everything, was really hot, and hit on her students. She was our teacher.

Hey guys, working on that pic I mentioned in the last thread. It's turned into a mini comic at about 4 pages which will likely end up at 5. I'm doing the 'oh shit' page right now and I decided to throw in the reactions of the other swordsmen into the mix.

So saying that, could anyone direct me to the descriptions of the other swordsmen or post them here? Also suggestions for what reactions each of them should have are welcome. It will only be a close up their faces for now though. Once I have idea for how they all look I'll sketch out the Kinkaku force staredown.

    God my spelling is terrible.
Alright, the last two to follow are ideas that I had and thought might make interesting characters. As I said before I like Kimimaru a whole lot, he was the coolest of the sound ninja. So I wanted a character who would have the same bloodline and could do cool bone attacks. But Kimimaru is the last of his clan and one of the few who had that ability, how could I do it? A bone transplant. In an effort to re-establish the Mist's bloodlines some unwanted orphans were given bone transplants of Kimimaru's bones and DNA and so on. Sadly, most of them ended up dying because of the mysterious illness he had, some where horribly sick all the time, others never devolped the ability. The ninja I was making was going to be one of these orphans who survived and had some of Kimimaru's bone shifting abilities. Seems possible given Kakashi got an eye transplant and can use the Sharingan, and Danzo, and fishface and his wood jutsu.

I also at some point wanted a swordsman character, one who wanted to become on of The Seven. I dunno why but he was going to be a "vampire" of sorts. He was going to have an iron problem with his blood, and got what he needed from others and iron rich foods. Just didn't know enough about the other Seven and didn't think it would be a good idea.

To be honest, I don't think any of these characters of mine are a good idea. I'm just glad these days are behind me.

Yuki possesess the white hair and pale skin of the Kaguya clan as well as the two red dots on her forehead of the clan, though she often covers it with her headband or her hair. She is dressed like a standard Mist shinobi, anything to make her seem more as part of the group. However, her clothes are often covered in holes from where she sprouts bone.

Yuki yields her blades and has them wrapped with scrolls which allow her to channel chakra through those bones to cut through harder targets. We serrate them, make them poisonous hypodermics, and when they inject the poison the victim's body begins to expel their chakra making Yuki able to absorb it and the target bleeding out their chakra until they pass out or have the poison neutralized.

Similar to Tetsuo, Gendo is a more nimble combatant than the Mist is used to producing. His Crocodile Pact has made him stronger than he appears, however. Under the red and white outfit and white cap, Gendo can suffer more harm than most shinobi could conceive of.

Welcome! Sooner we get art, the better.

Moreover, scanning through everyone else's First Unique, I got thinking about our Willow ability. As it stood, it was as follows: 'Parry a melee attack, counterattack, and grapple an opponent at the cost of 1 point of Determination.'

Now, I think we could turn this into a Determination Drainer although I don't know if it would be better or worse, by the way of being broken. Anyway, if just add the stipulation that for 1point of Determination, the attacker is not counter-attacked or grappled, and for 2 points of Determination, the attacker can continue their attack. Which I think makes sense as getting tangled with us in melee is a tiring affair.

    Ok, down the line?

    Brad:
Sounded kinda crap, unless he was played as a comedy character.

    Yu-Yu-Hakusho:
Decent-ish. No idea about personality, but back story could just do with no Hyuuga and just some origninal way to shoot laser-Chakra.

    Hard-Hitting Hyuuga:
This could do with more Hyuuga. Branch kid who sucks when it comes to seeing things, but darn good at punchings. No idea about personality, though.

    Water Gaara.
    Shit.

    Magneto-Jitsu
Maybe good, not sure about personality. Don't know what the Clan Jitsu is, and metal-bones -almost- sounds like it works, but it's a little extreme.

    Blood-Ninja
    >medic-nin who had an ability to see blood, like the hyuuga clan
    This sounds nice.
    >his clan's blood was acidic
    Err.
    >and they could contol it like water.
    That's a lil' rediclous.
    >Idolized Hidan and wanted to be just like him and kept making an ass.
Oh, I hope this was done intentionally. Otherwise, he just sounds like a ass.

    Immortal Tele-slut:
    Yeahno. Yeahthisisbad. Terribad.

    Kimimaru 2.0
Given Shippūden, this is well within the story and, honestly, I would not be too suprised by it. As long as the personality is something decent.

Depends on the Genjutsu in question, to be honest. Most Genjutsu don't do the work themselves, they're more crowd control than anything. Of the Genjutsu I can think of that actually do damage are Tsukuyomi, which is 100% lethal if the instigator wishes it, and that's pretty much it. Itachi's Finger Genjutsu is capable of exhausting you, but for the most part Genjutsu just restrains people allowing you to execute them.

If an attack would kill you you can make an Arduous Test of the skill you wish to use, (IE to Shadow Clone out at the last second it would take 1 Nindou, and 3 successes at least on a Ninjutsu Skill roll.) However, you take a -5 pool penalty to any roll you make the next round.

Secondly, you can use it to enhance an attack by 5 damage. Then you drop to Injured or Wounded, whichever is closest. If you are wounded, nothing ill happens.

Thirdly, you can negate a single success an opponent receives in any roll for 1 Nindou and 1 Determination, as well as taking a -1 Penalty on the next turn.

These are simply the numbers used for testing.

Yeah, or make criticals require a large sum of Determination to activate...something.

Maybe I should deny the point increases when a skill reaches 5 and instead keep the 10-Negation. Our Taijutsu would only be 8, but that still doesn't solve the problem.

Maybe I can allow people to buy-out of 10's with Determination at a 1:1 basis. That'll get tiring quickly, also if I prohibit criticals from activating because of that. Lastly, I think I need to make any modified critical, that is to say using armor, or Determination to negate a 10, should not be a critical as it bars proper response.

Maybe increase the skill cap or have your health increase as rank does? I like the nindou idea. Another way to keep one shots from happening is allowing a nindou to stop damage accrual after it passes into a new wound track (injured to wounded for example) that uses up an appreciable amount of chakra + determination.

In other news I will begin to dump the (very) rough draft for that 5 page bisection dealy thing. Posting it this early mainly for input on the quests original characters and if anyone thinks they don't look quite right.

Maybe increase the amount of HP/ Condition/ Damage one can take? Like a base something (Maybe Taijutsu+Determination) times your rank. Non-ranked Ninja have 1(T+D), Genin 2, Chounin 3, and Jonin 4. It makes it harder to kill higher-ranking opponents, which takes away enough of the lethality to stop it from consistently being a

I missed the first 20 minutes, and my log only goes back to 3:20 (4chan-time), and I know I joined earlier, but most importantly for us, there is an increase to the injury pool based on rank; I don't have the technical details (I remember it being based off taijutsu and determination, I think) , but a newly statted character ( http://pastebin.com/p0uZYLuJ ) with 9 taijutsu (4 det) and either Jounin or High-Jounin rank had 52. Obviously there is some extensions of the rank system, it goes genin, chunin, jounin, 'high-jounin', and kage level now. Roughly corresponding to D, C, B, A, and S rankings. Level 5 skills don't up a stat now, but the scaling skill costs are still in. Raising a stat costs 5 points. The points are more generic 'mission points' now (I think they could just be called experience points but w/e), perks are still generally 3 points. Hopefully OP will come and clarify what I left out or messed up.

Oh, I'm going to have to say I like increasing health based on rank, but I don't think it should be done on multipliers; it might damage those with poor HtH skills too much. We do wear one of Flak Jackets over armour, but didnt find a use for a second one.
Shunshin is pretty much a fast movement jutsu.
Iron Wind s about throwing a sword in opponent, and pull it back. Im not sure why it is an Iron Wind, when it is a Blade Boomerang, but whatever.

The ANBU cloak makes us impossible to be sensed while we are covered up and wearing it. There is no functional difference between each villages cloak, atm. I'll probably make a camo bonus later.

Flak Jackets provide a protection of 2, we are wearing it over our armor which gives 3. We take the stronger bonus. It provides us easy storage, and it also keeps our neck safe.

Shunshin is the technique of moving extremely quickly so that it seems like teleporting.

Iron Wind is little more than a simple throwing sword attack.

Relevant stat + relevant skill + modifiers
We might want to consider weapon damage modifiers, but they haven't come up yet.

Example of Shimaru, using his Greatsword, with the Steam Buzzsaw activated:
    Taijutsu 9 + Greatsword Skill 5 + Steam Buzzsaw 3 = 17 damage
If we get a critical success, that doubles damage, resulting in 34 damage.
That's usually enough to one-shot most opponents.

    I see.
I think I am done with my questions.

I read this quest from the archives in the past 3 days or so, I am liking what I am seeing though I have some complaints:

-OP, please take a name and a tripcode. This serves two purposes: first, it is much easier to identify your posts (this is especially important when reading from archives where one usually doesn't read players posts) and two, it make searching your thread/posts on easymodo using 'advanced search' possible.

-When having a dialogue please, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, _PLEASE_ include the text you are using for the main character IN YOUR OWN POST. Even if it is just a copy-pasta from the player's post.
I think this has become my personal pet peeve regarding Quest threads. A lot of Quest authors tend to do that. While this is a minor inconvenience when reading on the PC (although it greatly breaks the flow the story), it is insufferable when reading from a mobile phone (which I tend to do a lot).
...Sigh, I keep telling this to any DM who does this. They listen, tell that they will include both sides of the dialogue and then promptly keep doing that they used to.
This is not a problem when being in quest "Live" but very annoying when reading the Archives. Please think of future potential followers!

-[This one is a minor complaint because it does not happen that often]
Do not forget to flavor the battles when writing:
Sometimes, you just make the battle a "comparison of numbers". What I mean, is that you give us a bunch of numbers then ask us to provide a bunch of numbers, then you do the calculation and say something like "right, he deals X damage on you. Next action?" without describing what happened.
For example: The sparring session with Guy, it seems to me that a chunk of it is missing. The moment where everyone was ecstatic due to some rolls (from the posts it seemed that Either Shimaru did great deal of damage or vice-versa.... it was confusing).

-[this one is also a minor complaint] And something that I wish you did from the beginning (meaning it is late for now):
You should have written the Quest under the presumption that people know little to nothing about the setting. Yeah, I know, who hasn't heard about Naruto?
I know I am kind of being vague and I know you provided a "source" book, but I think it is still useful to give background information steadily through-out the Quest, at least once in a while.
I only read the file today (because of the phone, I read the entire quest on the phone) and only because I was interested to find out more about the setting. A newcomer with a fleeting interest (and a bias against Naruto) would not want to read 20 pages of text before delving in.

Also, what was that you wrote in the previous thread about moving to a IRC group when you fleshed out the system. Please continue on /tg/! This is very fun to read!

Minato and Mei seem to be warming up to the idea. Minato wants his village to succeed and keeping the attacking Cloud and conflict with the Sand outside of his borders is extremely appealing to him.

Mei wants the Mist to have a reputation for strength, success, and reliability, everything that Yagura ruined. Working through the Akatsuki and her promotion of it as she has sponsored you, would be extremely helpful.

"I agree with your sentiments." Mei says before extending her hand, "I Mei Terumi of Kirigakure accept your terms." Minato looks at her for a moment before extending his own hand, "I, Minato Namikaze of Konohagakure, accept your terms." Kisame shakes both of their hands and then speaks, "Thank you very much for your kindness and reasonable views. I promise you that we can achieve global peace together. Now, both of you Kages, your guards, and your spokesman here may meet me, if you so wish it. I would suggest taking Kisame away, as per our deal." Leader says as he rises, walks up to an ANBU agent and extends his hands and tongue, allowing for seals that block chakra from being moulded in his mouth to be placed as well as restraints.

We know he does. Soon they won't be village troops- they'll be his, and we'll just be breeding grounds for them- and helpless to stop him.

And where are we going to get new village-loyal ANBU from if they're all with him?

Maybe we run some of the people we're sending to him through some tests and cherry pick some promising members from that?

When asked, we just need to tell him that we'd also like to maintain our current amount of ANBU, in case something unexpected happens.

I wonder if we shouldn't try to check Satori's story. But we should also bring this information up with the Stone.

    >"Good. Also Kaji,"

    >>16529911

"I will be sure to include Kaji. As for the Stone." he says and looks at you, "Look, Yamada-san! An assailant threw a kunai at me. As my ANBU you are obligated to go pursue him, it looks like he's going towards the Hidden Stone Village!" She says with a wink as she turns away and puts her hat back on with a wave, "Bye bye, Yamada! Good luck catching that guy. However, if you can't, be sure to talk to the Grand-Ardent of the Stone and see what's happening."

Well, lets get looking for that assassin. What do we need to roll to make a detect?

She was being facetious. It's an excuse for us to go to Stone without Satori protesting.

We do have the slight problem of our sword and Gendo still being held back at Konohagakure, but we could make a detour to visit Konoha on the way to Iwagakure.
I suppose we'll be traveling with Minato again?

Boy is Danzo going to be glad that he founded Root now! He's probably got half the power left in Konoha at this point!
